I have wondered if persimmon seeds were edible so I did an internet search. Seems some people have used it as a coffee substitute. Confederate soldiers, I've read, used it. Here's a link for anyone interested in trying it out. I couldn't find anything more detailed than this. I haven't tried it. I read that someone defies any man to tell the difference between this and coffee! This webpage shows

Wow! Dr Mom, haven't bought food in the US for quite a few years, but this seems like a real deal to me. I wonder if this would be a cheap purchase even if it were all conventional. Zowie!

red_willow: I'd say that environmental reasons are the best reason for buying local. But I think according to Macrobiotic theory, adaptations happen in days' time. According to how I think the theory goes, adaptations are only genetic. So even if we're traveling, it's best to eat local produce. Maybe adaptations aren't the best word, I don't know. Just my understanding.

I see I see. Noi na. Yeah, I had those. I gather they're not local to Thailand. I did like them (atemoyas I guess) but found them awkward to eat so I didn't often eat them. They rot easily and insects get to them fast. So once they get soft, I often didn't need to look very long before I found little worms squiggling around in the flesh. Having said this, I do like your name just the same!

I practice in the mornings. It always feels so so good. On occasion I'll do a breathing exercise instead. I feel so incredibly peaceful afterwards, far more than doing the yoga. But yoga gives me something the breathing exercise doesn't. Doing both would be too time consuming.

djatchi, 1. The Graham quote you provided didn't say that other primates eat only fruits and vegetables. 2. I agree, and I think most people would, that the fruits and vegetables that most people eat are not ideal. Maybe they're good enough to do the job. Fasting on bananas is an oxymoron. Fasting, at least my understanding of the way it was in the past, meant drinking only water, ha

I lived in Chiang Mai for a few years. Really liked it there. Two years in the mountains at a temple. Great. And nearly a year in Chiang Mai city. Where are you? Do you live there or are you there temporarily? What's the Thai name for cherimoya? I had seen this name, I don't remember where, when I was there but never found out the Thai name. I doubt the durian season will start up so soon.

Cherimoya, you're in Thailand, and you'll only wait a few more weeks until fresh durians arrive? Where in Thailand are you anyway? Sounds like out of season durian, which you could probably find now. It's not available every day at every market, but it is available all year round. Just more filled with who knows what and more expensive. Have you been to Chanthaburi during the high season? I'v

I have an idea about why Juliano might not use bananas. It comes from Macrobiotic theory. If a food grows more than I think 500 miles away, then it's considered not ideal. That's because of the difference in environments. Eat locally, the theory goes, because people living near where a food ideally grows, are better adapted to those foods. I don't know the details though. I studied and lived a ma

Here's a raw site that I've perused a bit. It's not a vegan, nor a vegetarian site, and they might be promoting a rather high fat diet, I'm not sure, but it's intersting just the same. Since it's not vegan, I realize it might not be allowed on the board. If that's the case, fine. dancerinthenight was looking for a website with a scientific bent. Though I haven't read that much of this sit

HIYA! Dancer, a raw friend recently introduced me to a raw website. I was going to read it over then make a post to this forum to see if anyone knew about it or had any comments. But since you are looking, I perused it a bit sooner than I otherwise would have. I've read a bit of it and it's interesting. There are lots and lots of citations but they don't make it hard or boring to read.

I wish I could give a better answer than this. But, all I can say is no. I have been eating mostly raw foods for at least 12 years now. But, during this whole time, I have probably never eaten sensibly for even a week. I can think of several possible reasons. I've tried many tricks and techniques and other things over the years to bring sense to my diet and sleep. But I think I've never stuck

Persimmons. Are they still available where you are? For me, they'll soon be out of season. But just last night I got a killer deal on 14 of them for about two US dollars. Still got some left. And two avocados for a buck or so! Do you fancy some of the tropical fruits like papayas? I don't know if durian is still available but not too many days ago people were posting about how they'd had some to

I have bought a webcam and can take both moving pictures as well as still pictures so I suppose I'll change my signature pic to something more recent. ...someday!

Yeah, a fruit peeler, a knife, dried fruits and see if you can find some dried vegetables. I live in South Korea at the moment and dried vegetables aren't hard to find. Actually, I don't know that they're dried and not lightly cooked somehow. If fruit that you can peel isn't available, you might want to have a small packet of baking soda that you can use to soak your fruit in for 20 minut

HIYA! I so strongly empathize with those here who say they "lose control" and such. Man. rawrnr, you say you've been transitioning for two years! I've been "transitioning" for 12!! I have been seeing more and more clearly very recently that I really haven't been serious about my health. Still I'm not nearly as serious as I feel I'll need to be to really do it. David Mason

rawrnr, I wish you all the best with this. Really .... Bryan, a couple of weeks ago someone posted saying that she'd just finished a consultation with Doug Graham and he suggested she eat a lot of bananas. I forget the other details. Someone asked her if Graham routinely put people on banana diets. The answer was that Graham customizes his recommendations based on each person's circumstances.

You know Leila, if the people you might eat with are open to you eating whatever you want to eat, if they're happy to be with you just to be with you, and are unconcerned about what you eat, then bring your own or arrange ahead of time. Like Bryan said, in another post somewhere, the people he eats with want to be with him for who he is, not for what he eats. The first time I went out with my

Well Dancer, I guess you're pretty much finished by now. I gather that at the very least you feel - and are - tons than you did when you walked in to the place. Hats off to you. Taylor, you say that they must have locked all the food away! I know a place in Thailand, where I did a cleanse, (it's called The Spa) where they have a gourmet restaurant right there in the midst of everything. The p

LikeItOrNot said: "Fasting usually means NOT eating anything," I agree. Though there are many kinds of "fasts" my understanding of the word means to abstain from everything but water. I think it's only in more recent years that the meaning of the word has broadened substantially. And David says that even eating can be fasting. To me, these are all cleanses. LikeItOr

HIYA! Posting questions and comments on this board is one idea. Even just reading the threads is a good one for me. If you know of any other vegetarians, ask if they're interested in raw, or at least maybe they could eat with you sometimes. People who disagree can be pretty negative and hurtful. Other than strong determination and not being sensitive to criticism are important. Hang in there
