Right. Or use the box fan with paper air filters bungeed to it. No heat at all! Heh..heh. It does work (with most stuff). -David Z. Mason

Luv: Most people hold themselves to too high a standard....instead of the standard that is right for THEM. It's OK to have good long-term goals.....but better to eat in a way that you are 100% comfortable with (even if it's not optimal) and then stretch from there....rather than proceeding from a place of conflict, failure or despair. -David Z. I would suspect that Kale is probably better nutritionally - but taste & texture play into it too. Here's a good discussion: -David Z. Mason

CJJ: Everyone's metabolism is different.....as well as their definition of the ideal weight. How do you know if you are not getting enough calories? Are you terribly under-weight? Many folks I know eat your basic salad, fruit & nuts...and easily maintain weight. The KEY in eating well is to find 90% raw meals that are very satisfying to you....and to be able to eat in a way that causes li

Welcome! Sounds like you are ready to make some very substantial changes in you life - and I applaud you. I had/did make many of the changes you describe...including eliminating smoking, drinking....(and especially difficult...caffeine). It's always good to start by cutting out the one or two WORST habits that you believe you have....and incorporating the one or two BEST habits you think you coul

I hear you Six. Sounds like you are confused. This is not a diet that some one has patented. It's just a high volume of fresh plant foods. There isn't a 'buy a bunch of equipment and only eat organic' entry requirement. If you are already eating high raw (fresh conventional produce) then more power to you! You are well on your way! The key is to NOT stress over doing 'right' and eat in a way that

You'll go through stages....and eventually refine your diet to something that is comfortable for you...and requires little thought. If you EVER have any serious discomfort....just find a juice that is right for you.....and light...and just drink that juice for a couple of days.....or simply fast for a couple of days.....if you don't mind that. -David Z. Just a quick mindset: Allergies are often chronic inflammation from (along with a natural tendency) years of inflammatory eating habits. Your son does not HAVE to eat nuts/seeds. Many find them hard to digest...so I wouldn't force it. You can certainly try the hemp....or flax....or sesame seeds. Try browsing your bulk section at your local health food store for some additional ideas! If he is

I think, in general.......yes.....you do tend to go a bit more on an all raw diet...but that is to be expected. On a high greens diet, I think one can expect to go 2-3 times per day. I think if a person is eating a varied all-raw diet, then 2-3 times per day is normal. Just my experience. -David Z. Mason

Right. The above suggestions are great. If you are camping for less than 2-3 days, you can simply bring what you would normally eat, and store it carefully in a cool area. Your best bets (with little fuss) will be apples, oranges, almonds, grapes, etc. Durable staple veggies like carrots, radishes, etc., should also do fine. -David Z. Mason

Fluteye: I think the green bags would be your best bet, and least fuss. The above posters have a good point. If one is buying fresh produce to last 2 or 3 days, then the methods you use sound fine. As to dressings and sauces? Enzymatically, those suckers (like fresh juice) oxidize quickly...if not right away. If you must store them, simply make sure your sauces are acidic (like adding lemon juice

-You CAN'T avoid cravings, you can only have a higher priority. Write down the 3 major reasons you want to eat raw...and really think about them. Eating raw (or doing anything positive) is about pulling all your emotional sand into a big enough pile to see into bravery. -David Z. Mason

I know that Valerian root is the sort of traditional raw cure. Also: avoiding eating several hours before bed will help. Good exercise during the day will help with sleep at night. Avoiding drugs and stimulants like caffeine, nicotene, alcohol, etc., should also help normalize sleep. Some sun during the day might also be helpful. Just some tips. ) -David Z. Mason

I think that in the beginning - it probably couldn't hurt....and might put your mind at ease. Later on? My personal practice is that a wide variety of fresh fruits & vegetables will limit the need for supplementation.....which I think is over-indulged in American practice. -David Z. Mason

Right. There have been periods where I've eaten 20 or 30 bananas a day for a long period. I know everyone is different, but I think you will have a hard time poisoning yourself with ripe bananas. Most healthy food is pretty self-regulating. -David Z. Mason

Detox could cause this - or have you already been all-raw for many months? In any event, pure water should hydrate your eyes just fine. Avoid shampoos and products that might be triggering allergies. Just a couple of tips. -David Z. Mason

CB: 1) So don't eat fruits. Stick to mostly fresh greens & sprouts. Eat only those fruits you know you can tolerate well...and eat them by themselves...in small amounts. 2) 'Raw vitamins' are whole foods. Vegan supplementation can be had from various sources & delivery methods. 3) Sprouting CAN be a great addition to your diet...and can certainly be done in batches...and refri

ANY processing....even cutting...is going to cause SOME oxidation. If dehydrated food is better than what you are eating now...I say go for it! Oh: and the box fan method is simple: Just buy a $15 box fan at Walmart. Buy 2 3-packs of cheap PAPER air filters at Home depot.....and some cheap bungee cords at the dollar store. Slice your food thin....and place between the slats in your paper air filt

I'm sure your diets do not vary immensely. The only difference is, what THEY are eating as a side-dish...you are slowly making your staple. I'm sure it's not like vegetables NEVER showed up on your table! Or grapes NEVER found their way into your diet! Ha! ha! So: Just don't make it an issue. Let them see YOU putting the stuff on the table....along with whatever THEY want....and see you eating th

Tam is certainly correct. Stick to the staples of apples, bananas, greens like spinach & romaine. The only raw foods that a sensitive person might want to avoid are spicy greens (like mustard) or other spicy peppers, etc, but that is a personal call. -David Z. Mason

Good questions. Keep in mind that this is not an 'all or nothing' proposition....or at least doesn't HAVE to be. Pound per pound....fresh greens or fruit can be had for far less than .99 per pound for staple items. You don't HAVE to buy fancy or organic....and I really don't recommend doing so for folks that are on a budget. Tip: Don't expect your family to understand or support you. It will be y

I agree. I don't think the bird could have made such symmetrical cuts. I'm sure he's being framed....perhaps by the cat....and frankly....the drawings on the bananas are a pretty flimsy disguise....and hard to make without opposable thumbs. I say the bird should go free! -David Z. Mason
