Bryan, Thank you for all the love and support you give unselfishly to his forum and for shining a little light on the path for others to follow in their own exploration of healing themselves with raw foods. Thank you for your patience with all who post here and for the courage you exhibit when you sometimes have to do the tough work to keep this forum on track and a place for all the seekers to

I do carpentry from the ground up, woodworking, electrical, plumbing, alternative energy systems (solar, micro hydro electric, hybrid systems), country homestead water systems (find the water and design a way to store and deliver it), a little backhoe operating, welding, stone work, tile setting, small engine repair, auto repair, whatever it takes to build, repair, and maintain a place in the cou

Thanks for all the feedback friends. Someone asked how tall I am: 5',7 1/2". Why the height change? Take the weight of the world off your shoulders and open your heart and you will grow. I saw life as a burden, a series of problems to be solved. I changed my viewpoint; life is a mystery to be unfolded. I don't have it handled, but I do see a little light on the path now and that gives me

Arugula, Thank you for the follow up post. It adds a fuller dimension to your sharing. Carded at 43 is a good thing, right? You're not short. Short is my big sister at 4',10". I know somebody has worked out all the numbers and factors for what "normal" body weight is for sexes and age brackets. Why the judgement of yourself for being "too thin"? By who's measure? A

My Diet Story In Pictures I was a photographer from the age of 10. I grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee and began coming out to California in 1973 for photography workshops with Ansel Adams. I left Tennessee for good in 1983 and settled in San Francisco to be closer to my photography extended family and Ansel. I didn't often find myself on the front end of the lens, so there aren't many pictures

My favorite fruit is the next one I'm going to eat I love the way the seasons work with fruit. Just about the time I start to get bored with one favorite the next one comes into season. For the past year it has been: Late Winter '06 it was Ataulfo and Madame Francek mangos, Spring it was early melons and a variety of stone fruits - nothing to get obsessed with though, Summer through early Fa

I'm working on some photos of my SAD to 80/10/10RV transition for this space later. I think they're going to cover about 30 years. Today was a full day of yoga classes for me. I took a walk on the ashram after the 3 hour advanced hatha class this morning. I fasted this morning to see if the experience of the bliss would be different after the intensity of the practice. My little pocket digi

CoconutCream, I believe the body reacts to the vibrations of machinery and electrical fields. I work with my hands and use a variety of power tools in the course of making my living and have been noticing as my body has lost its "armoring" from a SAD lifestyle and gotten more sensitive from my raw diet and the type of yoga I do which addresses body, mind and spirit - that I feel an en

I'm going to Costa Rica next month which will be about 10-12 hours

I'm loving how this thread has taken a kind of rambling path woven in and out and around the topic of exercise, religion/spirituality, pets, picture posting and whatever. Somehow it fits with winter as the season of integration and renewal. Today was a day off from a long hatha yoga practice and it's veg out time. I've been trying to do more walking now that I live in a great place for it.

Okay Troy, these heady philosophical turns to a seemingly simple thread do get a bit heavy and melodramatic at times. On one level, I do laugh at our humanness, our propensity as a western society to seek pleasure and avoid pain at all costs. The lengths we go to do that are comical. I

Fear Not! Mango season is about to begin for us in N. America. The green/red "Tommy Atkins" mangos are already around, but I really like the more flavorful yellow "Ataulfo" mangos or a yellow mango I got last year called "Madame Francek" (spelling???) which came from Hati. I know there are lots more varieties of mangos to experience out there, it's just a matter of t

There are a number of hatha yoga asanas that will provide ample cardiovascular benefit. Sun Salutations is probably the best known, but the key to any of them is breath consciousness. A personal favorite is simply going briskly back and forth between Up Dog and Down Dog with deep breathing all the way down into my belly which will heat up and open both the front and back of my body. If I get wind

I've owned a lot of knives over the years. In my gourmet SAD days I had over a dozen various knives, mostly Henckels 4 Star, fish filleting knives and a Japanese santoku vegetable knife. All knives will get dull with ordinary use, not matter what their advertising leads you to believe. Ceramic knives hold their edge without resharpening the longest, but they have to be re-sharpened by a sp

I've been a food binger for most of my life. Mostly it is linked to depression and anexity. In 1981 I reached the bottom with a failed marriage, job dissatisfaction, a bad case of artist's block and an overweight condition that topped out at 227 pounds on a 5 foot 5 inch frame. I was dying and I knew it. My wife and I agreed to divorce. Living alone, I slowly began to move towards regaining my h
