Hi katlatgurl, I remember when we first went raw my shopping bill rocketed because we were all eating so much and we weren't even eating any gourmet dishes. Just lots of fruit and salads and nuts and seeds. Now I spend about half of what I used to. We need less food to feel satisfied and we eat mostly fruit now with a little bit of greens and not much of the expensive nuts and seeds. Also I ha

I don't know if fat can help the body to repair. I do know from my own experience that eating lots of raw fat can make the initial detoxification period go on for much longer and stop you from ever experiencing that surge of happiness and life Mocha speaks of. Maybe it's different for people of different body types but for me all those nuts and avocado's didn't work and I feel much better since

Hey pakd4fun, I wasn't trying to solicit a reply from you, although it's always nice to hear from you I bumped this thread up because of someone else asking about raising raw kids on another thread. I agree with the getting old with a tired fat ass bit. I'm not actively looking for someone but I sometimes wonder if I will ever be able to find a new partner. He will have to be at least vegetari

You look absolutely great kwan, you're a good example of the benefits of fasting. I also find that fasting works really well for clearing the mind. Once you get through the first 3 days of feeling woozy and the body goes into fasting mode my thinking becomes so sharp and clear. I sometimes use it when I have a big project to get through that needs a lot of attention to detail. Francis

Hi Dee, I think my potassium intake is probably quite high as I eat a lot of bananas and it didn't stop my body from retaining water. I also feel very dehydrated the day after I've eaten salt and my skin feels dry. I have been eating raw for almost 5 years now and have slowly been cutting down and now almost cutting out altogether salt and spices. I have also started eating a low fat raw diet

Yep, I'm with Kwan on the fasting. I did a 65 day juice fast two and a half years ago and experienced the same feelings of grounded bliss Kwan mentions. I was so full of energy once I got through the detox bit. I wanted to go on longer because I felt the best I have ever felt in my entire life but my friends got really worried because in the end I weighed only 40 kg and looked like a scarecrow, s

Hi Katie, I bumped up the Raising Raw Kids thread up for you. Maybe some of the info on there will be helpful. I don't have any experience with transitioning very small children onto raw, my youngest was 5 when we started but from my own experience I would say that it's safe to put your 16 month old on a raw diet. You'll probably experience less problems because at that age they're not so add

From my experience with tamari all I can say is that I find it terribly addictive. I have never used the stuff myself but when I go to raw potlucks I sometimes eat food with tamari added and although I know from the taste that it's too salty for me, once I've had a bite I can't stop eating whatever it's in. Personally I would say that tamari is not something I want in my diet permanently but for

Yes I have tried Himalayan salt but it's still salt and after a couple of years eating raw I now find that I do much better without it. After not eating salt at all for a while and very little of it in the previous months, I ate some on a few occasions in the last two weeks and noticed a swelling of my bum and upper thighs where my body is retaining water. I also had a painful knees going up and

siracusa, my friend avoided fruitsugars for months at a time, following Gabriel Cousens advise for candida but it wasn't until she cut down her fat intake to almost nothing that the candida finally started to shift. All I can say is try it, eat all the fruit you want, get most of your calories from fruit, but keep your fat intake down or don't eat any overt fats at all for a week or so and see wh

Betty, your approach with the fruit and nut combining might be ok for a transitioning rawfooder without candida but for a person with candida fruit and nut combo's are a disaster. I have a friend who has battled with candida for years and the only thing that finally got rid of it was cutting the fat way down. Francis

Try cutting out the fat altogether and eating all the fruit you want for a week and see what happens to your candida symptoms. You should see a result in even that short a period of time. And yes, do read 80/10/10 by Doug Graham, it will explain why the above suggestion will take care of your candida. Candida is related to fat intake. Wishing you well, francis

I know this is not a very kind solution but I suck them up with the nozzle of my vacuum cleaner. They tend to sit together so you can get loads in one go before they realize what's happening and because they're so small they can't fly for very long because they get tired quickly so when they settle down again you can pick off what's left. That's the way to go patty, get them hooked on the smoothies and plates of luscious cut up fruit. Fill them up on it before they leave the house and they won't have room left for anything else That's great pakd4fun that you have your husband on board with your family's raw transition. I'm a single mum which makes things easier in one way because I don't have anyone making things difficult b

I started writing a response to the questions about feeding raw kids but it got so long that I decided to start a new thread, Raising Raw Kids. So if anyone wants to share experiences or ask questions about feeding their kids raw, let's meet there. Love, Francis

I was writing this in response to a post on another thread but it got so long that I decided to put it on a new thread. There seem to be a lot of people who are trying to feed their kids raw on this board at the moment so it might be helpful to have a raw kids thread where we can share experiences and ask questions. I have been raising two children (10 and 16) raw for almost 5 years and it is

How about watermelon smoothies? Just chuck all the meat including the seeds in the blender. All the refreshingness without the mess. I agree with Anaken about most folks being so chocked full of internal wastes that the heat/sun is actually quite deadly. The cleaner my body becomes on raw the more I feel that I'm becoming a perfect conduit for light and sun energy to pass through without an

Hi cricri, I admire your efforts to be raw in Romania. I know from experience that it's much harder to do in an East European country. I used to spend all my holidays in Czech a couple of years ago and raw foods are very limited there as well. I live in the Netherlands and we are so spoiled for all the raw food choices. But if you really want to be 100% raw it is possible to do so no matter wh

Gosia I don't believe it, you're coming to the Netherlands!! I live in the Netherlands, in Amsterdam, about an hour away from Eindhoven. I don't know if you will read this before you leave but if you have time at the beginning of your stay ( like this weekend) and you feel like visiting Amsterdam, I'd be very happy to put you up and share a raw meal with you. I'll be leaving for England on Monda

I always understood that watermelon takes less than half an hour to leave the stomach. On the above list it says 2 3/4 hours. Unless they mean total digestion time, like from eating it to elimination? But that would be extremely fast and from my own experience watermelon takes from 6 to 12 hours to eliminate. I am confused Francis

Hi peisi, Nice to see you back again. I have been eating mono oranges as well and I really get an energy buzz out of it. I noticed on your other thread that you were asking about raw pregnancies. Did you look on for Jinjees experiences with raw pregnancies? She's got some good information on there and ebooks you can download. I'm convinced after almost 5 years of studying the raw vegan die

Hi Elakti, I have noticed a big difference as well in how I feel depending on the amount of fruit I eat. The 5 Tibetans are really good, try them! I am still stuck where I was last week. Eating more fat than I should. I ended up eating gourmet at the birthday parties and I find myself thinking of excuses why I should be allowed to do so. This is my last week at home before the kids break up
