I'm sorry to hear about your Mom. I hope she enjoys this: Not Pumpkin Pie (If you can't find persimmons right now, sub with mango instead). This is a very simple recipe, only 3 ingredients, and all 3 are low fat AND high calorie! HTH

Just an opinion here. If you're having trouble with your teeth, go light (or avoid temporarily) the acidic fruit like citrus, tomatoes and berries for awhile. Also, unripe fruit. Those are the teeth killers. Sweet fruit such as bananas, melons, figs, really sweet and ripe mango and dates, should not be trouble for your teeth. You were eating lots of oranges with the dates. I also fi

I agree with Richard - digestion takes up your energy. Many people confuse stimulation with energy though, and they often take superfoods for an "energy" jolt, mistakenly believing the stimulation to be the energy. I'm at my most energized when I sleep a lot and eat enough (not too little, not too much).

Define "purist". Most true purists won't even use a dehydrator to begin with. I don't feel that I'm a purist, but I got rid of my dehydrator a long time ago.

Strength training almost every day (I sometimes skip the weekends or extremely busy days) and cardio 3-5 times a week. Over the last year and a half I've slowly gone from seeing exercise as a drudgery, something else to check off my list, to precious time I enjoy every day.

Fruit is high carb I actually recently wrote something about this, which is why your post caught my eye: in case you're interested. Would love your thoughts on it if you read it! For me - I've been learning that high protein (raw) foods also tend to be high fat, and that we don't need as much protein as we think. HTH a little

I definitely think there's something to what you're saying, although it may be regional. I live here in the south, beef and dairy country, also hunting country. I am grateful that my hubby was actually raised to love fruit and veggies - however most of his/our guy friends will LITERALLY not touch a fruit or veggie. They'll drink milk or pop, eat meat only pizza and fast food (taking any piec

I like mono meals for all the reasons everyone stated above, plus, I love that I don't have to think at all about what I'm eating next. I wrote a fun little piece about mono mealing awhile back, here it is if you're interested

Whose protein recommendations are you going by? Just curious. Do you think you're getting enough carbs? I find that when I neglect my carb intake my health and energy goes way, way down.

My Cutco knives - I've had them for almost 6 years now and they are turning out to be the best investment I ever made in my kitchen. The long meat-carver knife is THE best watermelon slicer EVER! Good knives really do make a difference in kitchen prep. Your mileage may vary with the top brands out there, but I'd definitely consider Cutco.

Wow, I'm sorry that you got so sick, but... congratulations that your body is now healthy enough to tell you a big loud NO! You're so right - just not worth it putting ourselves through that much misery just to please someone else who's not getting it anyway. ((hugs)) to you and continue to feel better quickly!

Sometimes, upping my physical activity gives me an insatiable appetite for fruit. You seem to be eating lots of veggies, which is great - how is your fruit intake? I find that when I get more active, my body simply desires more calories. Hope this helps a little! I've been there...

Sorry if I'm repeating anyone else's words - but a) dates are ultra low fat, so enjoy, just try to make sure they're as fresh and wet as possible and b) Eat more fruit to take the place of the fat calories you were consuming before! Hope this helps

I agree with David...personally I find that the lower my fat intake is (as in, when I stay away entirely from avos, nuts and seeds), the better I feel and the more energy I have.

What kinds of fruits and veggies specifically is she eating? I eat fruit and veggies too, and I find that if I go through a phase where I eat too much fat (usually from avos) I see a marked difference in hair loss. It's much less when I stay low fat. I hope your friend figures it out soon!

Low fat/high fruit has worked best for me over the other approaches to raw that I have tried. I go for the info, not the guru. But I do like what Doug Graham has to say. I couldn't care less what he's like in person...but he sure seems to have figured out an optimal way to do raw foods (in my opinion). I've been on it 16 months and blog a lot about it if you're interested in my in depth exper

Hi Rohanbaby, You are right, all foods (fruits and veggies) have carbs, protein and fat in them. Some foods are higher in protein and fat - like avos and nuts. If you eat those foods with high carb sweet fruits, you may run into digestive trouble if your system is sensitive enough. Starches = grains, tubers, etc, are indigestible and not really fit for human consumption anyway. They ha

15%? I think with raw, you either get the bulk of your calories from fruit or fat, since greens and veggies are extremely low calorie. I prefer to get my calories from fruit, it makes me feel better. Hope this helps. madinah Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Sparkler Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > >

We got them pretty bad last year. Here is how I got rid of them. I bought a bottle of beer, poured some into a pie plate, and covered the whole thing tightly with saran wrap. Then I made a few slashes in the saran wrap, just enough for a fruit fly to get in. They flocked to the plate of beer, got inside, couldn't get out, and died a happy death after having a drink. To never have to de
