You are not alone by any means. Like anything you consider (be it food, health, golfing, buying a car, or playing guitar) everyone is going to have an opinion and everyone's opinion/expertise is going to conflict. I was very heavy into bodybuilding a few years ago - I was actually rather large and strong compared to now. The point though is that every reference I looked into had a different th

I am definitely no expert but I do have 41 years experience dealing with fluctuating female hormones. Starting emotional symptoms 2 weeks prior to menses and carrying on into it sounds like more than just typical PMS/PMT. Sure there may be a hormone balance but what is important to find out is what the root cause of your hormone imbalance is. Traditional Western Medicine rarely (if ever) looks f

Karennd, Dates could be a sweet craving. I thought about that too. Supplements could help but the practitioners at the clinic suggested I stay off everything until I am done with treatments - approx 3 months. The reason is due to allergic reactions to what might be in it. They can actually check you for allergies to supplements and such and treat you to those exact products. I really cann

Howellbe and others, I, too, am struggling with the same problem and was almost going to start a post asking the same question. I have mentioned in other posts that going raw unmasked multiple food allergies so eating has become a challenge. 3 treatments into the allergy treatments I started are already showing a difference. I am seeing a homeopathic/osteopathic practitioner and I am amazed

Peony, If you are struggling with some gut distress you might be miscombining your foods or just hitting your gut with too much too fast. Try mono food meals for alittle and see if it helps. Then you can start adding more. Natalia Rose's book discusses food combining but I think that "The Raw Gourmet" by Nomi Shannon explains food combining better. Another outstanding resource is

Aarrgghhhh... I am so confused! I have read through most of this post. Can someone help me summarize this correctly? There are two main manufacturers of "good" blenders: Vitamix and Blendtec. Vitamix makes the 5000 and VitaPrep. According to an engineer with Vitamix (post by mary) both of these products perform the same with respect to extraction of nutrients. The 5000 is marke

Many dental rinses came out in recent years where you swish with said "miracle" for 1 minute either before or after brushing. A dental hygenist told me that you would get the same benefit (and then some) if you just used plain water for that 1 minute. Patty

Custom, I am no expert on this as I gathered the idea from others on this bulletin board but if you are using greens for smoothies, blended meals, juicing, etc you can keep them in the freezer. Just grab out a handful when you need. This way, when you are able to drive to the closest town you stock up on a bunch of good stuff and freeze it. My only experience has been with spinach but I imagi

I am about halfway through reading "Green for Life" and had it not been for this site probably would never have given it a thought to read. I just made my first green smoothie. I have to thank ya'll for the inspiration to try this. I cannot believe how darn good this is. I used spinach, kale (the purple looking kind), banana, pear plus some water. I don't have a high power ble

I use the parchment paper in the dehydrator and it works fine. The nori sheets is a good idea too. A number of years ago Corningware came out with a line of glass cookware called "Visions" (because you could see through it). As I work to improve my health and well-being I thought I would get a set of this for when I want to heat something up. I guess they don't make it anymore.

I grew up in the area - Old Brooklyn part of Cleveland - and have lived in northeast Ohio all my life. I shop as much as I can from Wild Oats on Chagrin (Woodmere). They have the best overall of everything. I also like a smaller owned store called American Harvest in Middleburg Hts. I work near "The Web of Life" store and I am not very impressed with it. I am not very impressed Tr

Shmooth, I will write a little more when I have more time (I am suppose to be getting ready for work but am goofing around on-line instead). I hate to "pass the buck" onto a book but one particular book has rather simple recipes and I highly recommend it - "Raw Food Made Easy for 1 or 2 People" by Jennifer Cornbleet. I also recommend doing what you are - making small

Corizza, You wrote that you are from Cleveland. Would that be Cleveland, Ohio? I live in Parma. I am not going to repeat what has already been articulated by others "above" me who have much more experience with this than myself. You received outstanding advice above. I have dealt with some of the same angst and issues too. Mine got so "disabling" that I have had to e

I read and hear people referencing these body types. I did some looking into it on-line and I understand the basic philosophy behind these three doshas (I am not sure I understand what a dosha is though). I keep reading in many resources about the positive effects of meditation on ones overall health and well-being. I understand the purpose of it. I hate to sound ignorant but how exactly does one meditate? If you use meditation, could you please share some insight? I kinda think that I would never be able to get myself focused enough. I guess I don't know how and was wondering if anyone can sugg

The detox recipe that superjuicer wrote about is almost identical (if not completely identical) to that recommended by Hulda Clark in her book "The Cure for All Diseases." Coincidentally I had just gotten the book to take a look at it and was going to start a message asking if anyone had heard of her and what were their thoughts. This detox she recommends doing twice a year and she gi

I have had to decrease (well pretty much eliminate) my consumption of fruits for a while for two reasons: multiple allergies and trying to Candida cleanse. You would be amazed how much nutrition is available in vegetables, grains and sprouts. Before I offer suggestions here is something for you to consider...has your practitioner determined the root cause of your intolerance to dairy and/or

First, I am sorry to hear you are suffering through this. Second, I don't know if you have considered a chiropractor or not but I recommend doing so. Yes, they can even correct herniated discs and without surgery. The problem is making sure you can find a good one and the only way for that is through asking around. You might even get lucky and post that request on this site for someone in y

Tasha2003, don't get the book. I will give you a brief synopsis of the "raw" foods recommended: *carrots, pumpkins, bell peppers, beets because they contain phytochemicals which are antioxidants *onions, garlic, cabbage, brussels sprouts, cauliflower because they contain high sulphur *alfalfa, barley leaf, wheat grass (any dark green leafy vegetables) because of the chlorophyll b

If you are looking to liver detox there is a book called The Liver Cleansing Diet" by Sandra Cabot. I just got it from the library and have only skimmed it a little. It is not raw but I am sure if you take a look at it you will get some idea where to head with eating to cleanse the liver. She also gives a decent explanation of basic liver physiology. The book came recommended. I always

The reason I started this topic is that after 18+ years on OC I am considering stopping for health reasons. Interestingly, I don't take them for birth control but for health reasons - control ovarian cysts and emotional issues. Since going raw I have no started "breakthrough bleeding" and I wonder if it is worth it to even stay on it. I am also trying to clean up Candida in the body
