It's never too late. Thanks for the suggestion. Unrelated, but I just found out that my dogs likes cucumbers. She also likes my green smoothies and molasses. (The things we give dogs to try!) Patty

Brian, I was very close to "the edge" less than 3 years ago. I often shudder when I think about where I was at that time - I had a plan, a backup plan, and I was set. I needed pharmaceutical intervention at that time to help me get past the worst of it. I guess the point I am trying to make is that right now, if you are in a place where you feel that you need meds to help get you t

Brian, The two meds your doc wants to put you on are both for depression/anxiety/mood symptoms. Just something to think consider as you commence treatment...all of those mood-type issues have been heavily linked to food sensitivities/allergies. The elimination of acidifying and allergenic substances may alleviate considerably or completely all the mental/emotional symptoms with which you are

Utopian Life that is awesome! I almost fainted in the shower too the other day for similar reasons. Acne scars on my back (from the past 3-4 years if even) are starting to disappear. AND...the usual clump of hair that catches in my drain catch after every shower has been replaced with almost nothing. (My hair is just past shoulder length.) This has been going on for almost 2 weeks now. Usu

I was contemplating getting a Magic Bullet but after I posed the same questions back in November, 2007 and reviewing the feedback I decided against it. Patty

Everyone is different but I find that sprouts are very alkalinizing for me. I know this from testing my urine pH. This is the only true way to tell. Suvine (above) states that she eats all fruit and maintains alkaline pH. This would not at all work for me. My point being that it depends on how your body responds more than what you would find in a book. I would just suggest being careful wit

All of the above advice is great and I heavily agree to not take any supplement. Recently (like a couple of days ago) I realized that I am consuming too much water in a relatively short period of time in the morning, which is causing similar grief. I started slowing down on this and spreading the water out better throughout the day and it has shown a tremendous difference. Also, watch your

I have tons of difficulty with my teeth when I eat too acidic regardless of whether it is fruit or anything else. So, yes I can relate. I would recommend, as did Bryan, that you ease up on citrus fruits and re-introduce them very slowly later. The best I can do is a small amount of orange juice (juiced myself from oranges and frozen into cubes) in my smoothies with banana and lots of spinach/k

I usually have a green smoothie for breakfast and a salad for lunch. I can probably take in more greens and calories per volume in a smoothie than I can with a salad. Patty

Hi All! I started this post back in July. I just wanted to check back in to say that I don't feel as overwhelmed as I did back then. I have gotten myself into a nice routine that is not as overwhelming as it was back then. At the start I was trying to make more of the "gourmet" stuff which is rather time-consuming. I am now much more proactive and organized with my "staples&qu

I have struggled too with the same thing. The more alkaline I maintain my diet, the better I do. Wheat (in almost any form) definitely aggravates it more so I avoid it 99% of the time. You can try and slow the detox by eating a higher percentage of vegetables and less fruit/fruit juice. This is similar to alkalinizing since many fruits have an acidic effect on the body. Everyone is different

Help! My new dog (got her 2 months ago from the shelter where I volunteer) has very bad, dry skin. I realize it is winter and that is a part of the problem. I know that dry skin is related to diet too. I so far have managed to get he off canned food (it was the only way she would eat at the shelter). I am feeding her Purina One brand so far. I want to move her to a more wholesome, beneficial

Here is what I do and it works very well. I use a large mouth mason jar. I put about 3 tablespoons of seeds. I cover with a piece of screening (like from a window/door) and hold in place with a rubber band. I soak about 12 hours first. I rinse and drain. I invert jar so it can drain onto a draining-type rack and I keep the jar in my microwave oven for darkness. Each day after, I rinse twice

Dear Gassy ...I mean Haida...okay, not trying to make fun I "feel" your pain or rather I have felt your pain - so to speak. :-) I found through my own experimentation trying to remedy the same problem that I do not do very well with a lot of fruit and as David eluded to, I do much better with mono fruit eating - like just bananas or apples - if I am going to eat fruit. Citrus fruits

Obviously, this is very much my opinion.....water within the meal eaten (as a part of the meal) isn't the issue. I mean think about it. We eat soup which is often water based. I know for myself I can tell if how I ate something is a digestive issue by its effect on me. I am THE poster child for why one needs to obey the food combining rules - including the consumption of water with a meal.

Great points David - as usual. Optimist, if you can, get a copy of "The China Study." I am about halfway through reading it and learned about it on this forum. It will completely change your attitude/understanding of our dietary protein "needs." As a quick side note: I used to be a very avid bodybuilder. For a female, I was rather muscular and strong. I was eating upw

I would love to get a Vitamix or other comparable blender but that isn't happening any time soon. I just purchased for myself 'Oster Beehive Chrome Blender' from Target. It was on sale for $50. It claims 600 watts and has a glass carafe. It has two speeds - on and off. It has continuous on and pulse - I think that is what they actually consider to be its 2 speeds. Yes, it is loud but I a

A while ago I made the best apple juice with my juicer. It was so good I couldn't believe it. I have no idea what kind of apples I used. I suppose it will probably also depend on the time of year of harvest too. What kinds of apples do you like to use for juicing? Is there some other fruit (maybe a pear) that when added in a very small amount adds something great to apple juice? Any i

I guess that would be confusing - sorry. It is quiet but you can hear the power. When I turn it on it reminds me of an engine firing up - first slowly and then it gets faster until max speed. When I stop it, it goes in reverse. It is rather impressive to hear. Patty

Joanna, There is a post I started about this in the Blenders/Juicing forum from 12/4 called "Can't Afford a Vitamix Ever Tried Magic Bullet?" Info in there should be helpful. Based on this I decided against purchasing one. If I did this correctly, this link should take you to the page (I hope): If the link doesn't get you there, just go to the Blenders/Juicing Forum and

As a result of this post, I went and got this book from the library. I am not very far yet but I am very impressed. It is also somewhat scary. I mean, I was eating this way for 40 years! It provides me with more motivation to "maintain the course." Thank you Greg for starting the post and to the others for contributing. Patty
