Bryan's comment is right on. Keep meals simple and small even if you are eating cooked - like just cooked potato or squash. (Squash is a very prominent local crop by me so I have been eating more of it since it is in season.) The antacid will suppress and/or neutralize whatever acid your body is trying to produce and further impede your body's ability to digest the food and extract nutrient

My personal experience has been that taking the antacid will make the problem worse in the long run. If I eat too much or mis-combine my foods such that I suffer from acid reflux, I take a Betaine HCl supplement. This actually is hydrochloric acid to help replace the lowered level of acid that is causing your reflux. What you are refluxing is not the actual "stomach acid" that you

Luvyuu, My periods stopped too. I started ovulating again (almost immediately) when I supplemented with Vitamin B12. Nutritionally, VB12 comes primarily from animal sources (meat, eggs). People who grow their own vegetables can get it from good microbes in the soil provided their soil has not been depleted. Nutritional yeast is also a source. There is a current post on sources of VB12 ri

Ashleekanaan, I have struggled (and I mean STRUGGLED) with the same problem for over 25 years. I too follow a very distinct pattern. For me it is always 45-60 min after I lay down regardless of the time or how fatigued I am. I usually wake up panicky too. Numerous attempts to identify the 'cause' and work around it have not helped. 20 or so years ago I was put on massive (and I mean massi

Thanks Wendi and Patty Awesome about your cholesterol Patty/dewey. Wendi, it is funny that you wrote the comment about inspiring others/sharing results. While I was at my doc (a conventional MD) I told her for the most part how I eat with the emphasis on a high proportion of my diet from raw, unprocessed fruits, vegies, seeds, nuts, etc. blah, blah blah. My doc actually said I was an insp

A while ago someone was asking about cholesterol and high fat raw diet. I couldn't find the post but I wanted to share this. For the second time since I have been on this raw journey, I had my cholesterol levels checked. I am a very high risk for cardiovascular disease due to maternal and paternal family history so these levels are getting checked regularly and they have not always been very

Ashleekanaan, I too stopped taking oral contraceptives but in my case after about 18 years of use! My periods were completely erratic and then stopped. Taking Vitamin B12 supplementation started them back up right away. After just 1 day dose, I started ovulating again. There is a strong link between VB12 deficiency and menstruation. It is not uncommon for vegetarians to be slightly deficie

I have tried the crackers you reference Bryan. I think the brand is "Mary's Gone Crackers." They are good. Good luck and keep us posted. Patty

How thick/thin did you cut the zucchini slices? How long did you dehydrate? Were they crunchy or chewy? I have never tried crackers. Patty

Luvyuu, I am struggling with the exact same thing right now but I wish my gas problem was belching. It is massive flatus. (It's so bad at times even my dog is offended.) I can't even figure out what to eat/not eat anymore. I am sure the more I dwell on it, the worse it will be. Problem is that I share an office at work with 3 other people. Let's just say that I think they know who the c

Claire, It is possible that the rash is due to the green food powder. Those contain tremendous amounts of wheat and other grains which can cause allergic reactions like you described. I am curious too like globalresult about the reason for using green food powder. The purpose of a green smoothie is to increase your intake of greens in order to realize their benefits. There is no need f

Coconut, I am the same way. I don't smell or taste greens much it all if I do. Bruce, I agree with Coconut, you just might have to eat your greens separate in large salads or something. However, you already identified the issue - that your brain responds negatively once you register 'green' smell. So at least you know it is what you are allowing your brain to believe. I honestly don't

Bruce, I am assuming that you are blending fruits, greens, and water together to make your smoothie. Based on Victoria Boutenko's work in "Green for Life" you want the smoothie to be about 40% greens and 60% fruit by weight. Maybe you are using too much green thus causing the bad smell and gagging. I only smell bananas or strawberry or orange, etc when I make mine. Rather than

Seren, I went off oral contraceptives after 18-19 years. See the posting titled "Women with No Periods" in this same forum for some other input. Also, (If my links don't work, do a search for 'Women with no periods.') After stopping synthetic hormones, my periods have been erratic and then just stopped. They started up again (like a week ago) when I supplemented with

After 148 days (not like I was counting or anything) my period started again and this was following 1 week of vb12 supplements. My vote is that stopped period is related to vb12 deficiency compared to protein or fat. As far as symptoms go, I did notice (prior to the stop) that transitioning to raw lead to decreased symptoms overall. It will be interesting to see if they stay while I keep vb12

My periods stopped in February. I am 42 years old. Just like rawdanceruk, my caloric intake fluctuates but mostly I eat around 2500. At first I thought it was due to stopping oral contraceptives after 18 or 19 years on them. Initially, I went into a perimenopause then everything stopped. Now, I think it might be because I am rather vb12 deficient regardless of what I eat. I very recently start

In a post a couple weeks ago, 'selfpete' stated that an Oster blender blade/collar should fit on a standard mason jar creating a personal "Magic Bullet." This is the standard mason jar, not the wide mouth. I tried it with the quart size and it works very well. The only "difficulty" I had (if you can call it that) was just modifying the quantities of green smoothie ingred

Anulyer7, I am not aware of your initial posts so I am going to make an assumption here - you and your husband went raw, his asthma went away, and now all of a sudden it is back. I am assuming this to be correct and basing what I write next on that. You mention stress. I had my first asthma attack (as an adult) 2 weeks before I was to marry someone that I knew was a mistake. Connection?

Believe it or not, I experienced something that I guess I could say fits your description when I made my sudden shift a little over a year ago. I kinda forgot all about it until you wrote this just now. I don't even know when, but it disappeared. It isn't there anymore and until I read this it never occurred to me to pay attention for it. Be patient. Patty

Pakd4fun (and others), I am finding that most people are generally ill-educated and ignorant about basic nutrition. I believe a large portion of it is due to the vast majority of poor information in the media that is driven by companies wanting to make money. I mean, where do most people get their general information anyway? Reading all the above posts, it is obvious that most people don'

A work colleague and I were having a discussion about eating and what it means to be vegan, vegetarian, etc. I went on to say that I don't consume any animal products. He very seriously asked.... "But you can eat fish can't you? That's not an animal right?" :-) Patty

Pete, You just totally made my day! The blender blade perfectly fits onto a standard Mason jar (not the wide mouth). Imagine that...blend it, close the top and out the door to work. I didn't try blending anything in it but I put it together. This is awesome. Kinda like my own Magic Bullet. Thank you! Patty

Yet another embarrassing problem. In the past 6-9 months I have been struggling with urinary incontinence. As an example, I will be fine, not even have an urge to go to the bathroom, and then "whoosh" urine is leaking out of me. I am doing (and have regularly done) kegel exercises when I urinate and find that many times - especially in the first half of my stream - I cannot stop

I had the Spectracell testing done earlier this year (blood drawn in January). Overall, I was very good. The 'off' areas were only slightly out. Here were my deficient areas: Vitamin B12 and Choline (no big surprise given the lack of animal product consumption) Vitamin D (It was winter - no sunshine!) Magnesium and Zinc (These actually surprised me given the quantity of sunflower and pump
