Could be the flu. Could be detox. Keep drinking water. Get plenty of rest. Try and be patient and love yourself through this. Regardless of which it is, flu or detox, the treatment is the same: plenty of water, nutritious and easy to digest foods if hungry, and love. When I don't feel so well, I eat as simply as possible -- mono meals of fruits, maybe a simple salad in the evening if I am h

blue_butterfly, thank you for your kind thoughts. This thread got me thinking (again) about the difference between sensing what your body needs and craving something out of habit. What Ryan says makes sense. It's a good way of thinking outside the cooked food box. Many of us have been brainwashed by old habits, parents (probably well-meaning), society, commercials, commercial culture, et

I don't have cravings. I have old mental habits that I am sometimes not entirely aware of. I try and maintain an awareness of my body and mind and that helps. Sometimes I think I want X. I don't, really. I used to want that. I want something else now but I'm used to thinking in a certain way. My mind hasn't caught up with my body and soul yet.

Fasting for cleansing or fasting for deprivation? (Not asking anyone in particular. Just sharing my thoughts about fasting in general, not anyone here.) I see some people cleansing and I see a lot of people deprive themselves. Right now, due to my workload, I'm not in a place to fast. I feel great when I mono-eat oranges for a day or two. I have done that a couple of times in the past coupl

Rawfrancois, I appreciate what you said about the "raw" fried chicken. Maybe I'm lazy, but I'd rather eat something that looks like a live, raw plant product. Minimal preparation, minimal clean up and I feel good. Give me a hybridized banana over that fried faux meat any day! I have NO fried chicken cravings. Is that stuff better than Kentucky Fried? Maybe. But I don't want it. I

If you stick around the raw/vegan world long enough, you will find that for every single possible thing you can eat, there is at least one person who will testify to a given item being incredibly healing and at least one person who will warn you that that very same item is toxic. There are some things some of us agree on. But very little most of us agree on. Gotta find my own way in the wil

Hey Uti, Please let us know how it goes. I'm a hiker and have wondered how it would go to do a few small trips while raw. I haven't done any real long trips since going raw and I'm wondering how one would go about doing it. I hope you will let us know not just what you eat but how you fee. I don't know enough about wild edibles to trust myself doing that. Lee

You can do a lot worse than bananas. I still have horrible flashbacks to a steak and cheese sandwich I had at about 3 AM... over twenty-five years ago. I'm not too worried about the bananas yet. I'm just not that advanced on this path. Lee

Everything Bryan suggested... ditto! What helped my skin and energy level and overall: I cut out most dried fruits and all oils. Oils are a processed food-type product, not a real food. I get necessary oil from coconut or avocado, not from a bottle. Also, Soraya's suggestion about the face loofa is similar to something I started doing a couple of months ago that helped me. A dermatologis

Lemoned, I think, you may be thinking of the governments in Europe that are socialist democracies (that fund social welfare programs -- and that have a broad view of "social welfare" -- as a matter of government policies). The United States is a capitalist democracy (that worships capital). Prism, IMHMO... There *was* something called civil rights. <sigh> Don't me

If it's painful or liable to get infected, you may want to try to contact an independent vet -- not the kind in a corporate type setting, a solo practitioner and ask him/her if they will work something out with you like monthly payments. I did that once with a vet who I had previously taken my dog to. My dog needed some care and I didn't have the total amount of money to pay for it upfront. The v

Lately, for breakfast I've been eating some bananas or some apples. I'll eat more (either bananas or apples) as a mid-morning snack, whichever I had for breakfast. Then, for lunch sometimes I'll have another fruit or I'll have some tomatoes or cucumber. Those are technically fruit. Sometimes I'll have whatever fruits were inexpensive like pears lately or maybe I'll splurge on a mango or pineapple

Cellular regeneration takes place largely during the REM phase of sleep. This is why long term sleep deprivation is very hard on the body. If you feel like you need to sleep, sleep.

Hey Rob, My mother made me take typing in school and I was so mad at her. Who knew the keyboard revolution was about to take place and we would all be communicating via keyboards? Anyway... I use Firefox as my browser and it has a spellchecker which is great for me. I'm spelling impaired. I've gravitated toward the 80/10/10 way of eating, more or less. I sometimes wonder if I should eat mo

Clean food, such as fresh fruits and vegetables, will help. The cleaner the food, the less she will feel she "needs" tranquilizers, generally. Regular exercise is very important too. I hope this helps.

I find the Buddhist idea of "Right Speech" to be similar in some way to the Jewish prohibition against Loshon Hora. -------------------------------------------------------------------- SELECTED HALACHOS OF LOSHON HORA (Selected Laws of Slander or Evil Tongue) From "Guard Your Tongue" ... by the Chofetz Chayim. Great thoughts at a reflective time of year for me! I've been trying to manage my time better and to use any extra time for yoga, spending time in nature, and meditation. I've also squeezed in some reading for pleasure. Aaah. I love Krishna Das... and other meaningful, positive music. Often, I put some positive music on in the background while I am doing other things to counteract the nega

There are just as many unkind people eating raw/vegan food as their are unkind people eating the standard American diet. There are just as many kind, loving people eating the standard American diet as their are kind people eating raw/vegan food. Dietary habits are not an indication of spiritual progress.

It's expensive stuff. I guess if I could afford it, I'd buy and juice wheatgrass instead. I've tried their stuff. I figured my limited money was better spent on fresh fruits and fresh vegetables. But, if you think otherwise then go for it. It's your body and if you think their stuff is good for you, that's cool. Superfoods tend to be super expensive. I don't think they are bad. But I nee

I've found Whole Paycheck -- I mean Whole Foods -- to be very expensive for raw nut butters. I've found much less expensive nut butters at smaller stores or food co-ops. Look around for a better price. I started my stepchildren packing their own lunches when they were at the begining of 2nd and 3rd grade. We only had healthy food in the house and let them pack anything they wanted. Anything.

I'm overeducated and underpaid... I must be a teacher! I teach emotionally disturbed and learning disabled teens. Most of them go on to respected 4-yr colleges. I've been teaching long enough to be able to teach at any level. I like the kids I work with now. No grade grubbing, Ilots of gratitude and humbleness. They are genuine.

On my way here, I did a few things like that. Once time, after leaving a restaurant, I had to stop my car because I thought I was going to vomit. The food tasted good. But my stomach was very unhappy. Another time, at work, I ate half a bagel. I felt like I had a lump of cement in my stomach for hours afterward. Again, my taste buds were happy but my stomach was very unhappy. I'm a slow lea
