The first part was a response to what Prism posted. I was thinking about how it is sometimes difficult to communicate the value of eating raw/vegan to mainstream thinkers. We, here on the forum, are operating from a completely different paradigm. If you go to the website where the original article was posted, you will see below it, lots of interesting posts. None of which offers the possibility o

I wouldn't put it past growers to inject dyes or chemical preservatives into fruit or vegetables. But, since I can't afford all organic food, I'm going to have to push this thought away for now. (Like that's gonna work! HA!) Today, I was in Whole Foods and I started comparing pasteurized "natural" juices... and I noticed one brand said "100% REAL JUICE" in big letters on th

Wow, Coco, that looks interesting. I've never heard of "miracle fruit" before. Have you seen them in stores anywhere? Thanks for teaching me something new!

The website allows comments. I noticed that no one commented on the benefits of a raw/vegan diet. Hint! Hint! I've read about that phenomenon whereby obese junk food eaters crave more and more quantities of food because their nutrient requirements are not being met. They are nutrient starved but stuffed full of junk. Very sad indeed. We are operating from a completely different paradigm..

Where do you live? Do you have any Asian markets nearby? I love yoga! When I eat so-called gourmet raw/vegan foods my belly doesn't like it. I do much better with simple meals.

From today's New York Times Healthy eating really does cost more. That’s what University of Washington researchers found when they compared the prices of 370 foods sold at supermarkets in the Seattle area. Calorie for calorie, junk foods not only cost less than fruits and vegetables, but junk food prices also are less likely to rise as a result of inflation. The findings, reported in

Roadrunner, You are giving your children an incredible gift -- a healthier YOU! The way you eat and the way you think about food will be passed on to them. I realized that I couldn't control my children when they were not with me, but I could teach them about the effects of food and I could make the healthy food they like as available as possible when they are with me. It takes a while.

Hi, I saw this thread and wanted to jump in because I'm interested in trying to grow my own wheatgrass. I was wondering if there was a web site or links or book you would recommend with instructions for someone who does not have a green thumb. I have mastered basic sprouting over the past year... so there is hope! I really don't know much about growing anything but I can read and follow di

I'm going to try green smoothies. The blender I have now is old and not very high powered but in a few weeks, I will spring for a new one. (Any recommendations for where to buy, please send me a private message if you don't want to post on the forum.) Lately, I have been craving greens and can't seem to get enough of them. Green smoothies might be the way to go. I'd also like to learn how t

I'm giving this my best shot because I feel better doing it. I've had enough of trying to cure myself with stuff that tastes bad, makes me feel bad, or hurts. I like the way raw/vegan food tastes and I have more energy. That's huge. I'm hoping that just being five months into being 90-100% will make a difference. Nothing else has helped. I'm actually supposed to go twice a year but got tired

One time when I felt, physically, that I needed to fast, I couldn't because of my work schedule. I just can't fast when I have to work a lot. Instead, I mono ate organic oranges for two days. I felt so energized and clean. It was like the energy of the sun was in the oranges.

David, No offense taken at all! My frustration is with the condition and the fact that most people (no one here!) will tell me it is because I don't eat animal products. But, I want everyone here to know that when I ate animal products, I had the exact same medical problem, and when I tried tempeh and tofu and seitan, I had the exact same medical problem. Now, on a raw/vegan diet, I have th

I'm protein deficient. I'm not a mythical beast. I have the symptoms of it and my blood tests show it. However, it isn't because I don't eat enough animal products. I can back that up with over ten years of medical records. I have a problem with protein absorption as a result of a medical condition and treatment... <sigh> There are people who are protein deficient. I just try to ma

I'm really glad this topic has appeared again. I have problems meeting my protein needs as a result of sustaining liver and gallbladder damage as a result of severe, life threatening bouts of hepatitis and also, later, high dose, longterm chemotherapy. When I ate animal products, I had trouble meeting my protein needs because I have trouble with protein absorption. However, now that I am e

You don't say how old your children are and if you have a supportive spouse. If your children are real young try: Not my website, just one with yummy food. Anyway... I told them, "Eat your fruit/salad, then you can have ________ . If they didn't finish the fresh food I put in front of them first, they couldn't have anything else. "If you aren't hungry enough, you don't need

Your anger is misplaced. I asked my questions in good faith and you reacted quite strongly. I don't know why. We have no history. I'm just a fellow traveler. I won't ask you any more questions or comment on your posts. It's obvious you don't know me and don't understand what I was trying to ask you. For anyone interested... Whoooah. If I thought you were trying to say that, I would have said that. I think you may have misread what I wrote. I tried to point out what is confusing about your definition of fruitarianism. Please don't be so defensive. I, and others, are trying to better understand you, and are not attacking you. Lee

A friend of mine who lived in Japan and Thailand for a total of six years, who isn't raw/vegan told me that he had a lot of trouble finding vegetable salads. He said that one time he went to, I think, an Outback Steakhouse in Bangkok for the salad because he was craving a salad so much. At various times during his six year stay he did not have kitchen facilities so could not buy vegetables to pre

"You also got to realise that people are at different stages both mentally and physically and for me I have less produce than most people/beginners so the choices are even greater, so how you think the fruitarian/strict raw vegan lifestyle can be restrictive is way beyond me!" You say you "have less produce than most people" so why wouldn't something think you restrict yo

I saw big bags of soy sprouts in a store. Are soy sprouts good for us? Do they taste good? Has anyone tried to grow them? I was thinking of buying some but the bags are kind of big and I didn't want to waste my money if they weren't healthy and tasty. Thanks. Lee

I hear ya on the price of food. It's a struggle for me financially. I don't buy any "superfoods." But, I try and buy organic when I can afford it. Sometimes I just go to the regular grocery store and buy commercial produce. At first, I got hungry a lot too. I felt like I needed to eat really often to feel satisfied. I think I need less volume now that my body has adjusted. I'm

Most of my co-workers are heavily addicted to Diet Coke. One guy literally started shaking and looking around like he was desperate when the Coke machine was out of Diet Coke. He really looked panicked and said, "Where's the other Coke machine? Isn't there another Coke machine around here? What's wrong with this one?" It would be funny if it wasn't so sad. He was about to freak out.

Cost of car: $4,000. Used. Unsexy. Dependable. Good gas mileage. Cost of bed: $0. Gift from a friend. Cost of food: YIKES! But worth it. My indulgences are all organic food products. Yeah, if I had more money, I would buy a deluxe bed and a car with fewer miles on it. And I would buy all the organic raw/vegan food my heart/stomach/desiring mind crave!!! And, a blender and a dehydrator a

I love the beautiful photos! THANKS for responding so quickly. I will probably ask again about this before I go... June 24. I'm excited but nervous about the food part. I've been eating 90-100% raw/vegan since early August and really feel good about that. I want to keep it up. I've never had durian before. I guess I will by the time I get back from Thailand. Wow -- those photos are awesome.
