5 healthy habits we probably don't know each other does smiling smiley
Posted by: Jgunn ()
Date: February 07, 2009 10:34PM

here is 10 things you probably dont know about me:

1. I skin brush everynight before I have a bath and bed to help me eliminate toxins via the skin while sleeping

2. I carry a small (6pack size) cooler in my car at all times with basic fruit (apples, oranges, bananas, romaine lettuce) and a magic bullet blender in case i get caught somewhere with no food an need a quickie pick me up !

3. When I have to go out to restaurants with my friends I find out ahead of time where we are going and talk to the chef about my needs. If its a spur of the moment thing I excuse myself from the table and go talk to the chef and tell him what i need. 99% of the time i get something spectacular and creative and many thank from the chef for giving them a wee challenge for the day

4. I do yoga everyday in the evening to increase oxygen to my brain and help me sleep better

5. I have a very OC (obsessive compulsive) schedual of monthly eating whole foods, juicing , fasting (by the moon cycle)

so how bout you all? smiling smiley

Interesting topic!

UM, let's see.

-Use a water pic every night before I go to bed. Keeps the gums healthy.

-I LOVE to hike!

-Grow most of my food.

-Usually water fast once or twice a week

-About an hour of yoga usually 5 mornings out of 7. Work out with weights a few evenings a week while watching TV. Like to run, but haven't done it in a while.

1. Wheatgrass Juice first thing....massage face and hair
with a portion of the juice.
2. Carrot Juice next....massage face, hair, and body (if
it's not too cold) using body exfoliating gloves. People are
always telling me what good 'color' I have.
3. Warm shower using gloves to rinse (soap optional).
4. Green Smoothie in early afternoon.
5. Celery Juice (optional) to hydrate early evening......WY

What is skin brushing and how do you do it?

basically you brush your skin with a brush .. tonya zavasta has some nice ones .. ive used those cheapie exfoliating gloves from the drug store too .. but the actual brushing is nicer smiling smiley it makes my skin feel soft and clean , removes dead surface stuff and stimulates lymph flow

Skin brushing for Detox

Giving your body a firm brush all over makes the skin glow by removing the top dull, dead layer of skin and encouraging new cells to regenerate. The gentle massaging motion of the bristles also has a beneficial effect on areas of cellulite, and it is an effective treatment for helping eliminate toxins from the body during a detox programme.

Technique

The technique is a simple one, and you need only a body brush with natural bristles, such as those of goat or boar, or a loofah. There are various types of brush, all widely available at chemist shops. You will need a brush with a handle - some have detachable handles - so that you can reach all the inaccessible parts of your back. There are also brushes mounted on long straps, which are ideal for the back and buttocks, and most loofahs are long enough to reach over the shoulders and down the back. You need a much softer brush, or a flannel, for the face.

Skin brushing is carried out on dry skin. Start at your feet and work upwards, brushing the legs, then buttocks, then on to the chest and stomach and finally the face. Brush more gently where the skin is thinnest and always brush towards the heart.

This kind of skin-brushing , if done daily, is one of the simplest and effective treatments for lumpy thighs and hips that you will find anywhere.

Brushing your whole body in this way will take you between three and five minutes, depending on how many strokes you give to each area. Try to keep a rhythm going and brush for up to five minutes every day and preferably immediately before you have a bath or shower so that the dead cells are washed away.
Skin brushing is best done in the morning as the acceleration of blood flow has quite an invigorating effect. You should be able to see the difference in your skin after just a few sessions - it will become very soft and develop an attractive rosy glow.

Good reasons for skin brushing:
Stimulates blood and lymph flow
Helps eliminate toxins from the body
Removes dead skin cells
Encourages cells to regenerate
Stimulates production of sebum
Helps combat cellulite
Results in smooth glowing skin

Five (okay, seven) of my healthy habits:

Warm lemon agave and cayenne drink first thing in the morning

1 qt. of smoothie (kale, ground flax seeds and fruit -- now it's the juice of 4 oranges or tangerines and an apple) for breakfast -- most days

My favorite soup for lunch (1/2 avo, miso, garlic, mushrooms, spirulina, sprouts, spicy pepper blend and carrots) -- most days

Outside as much as possible

Grow a lot of food (for my family and our community)

Yoga, gym or other physical exercise daily

Wash my hair and body with baking soda and lemon

I keep at least one raw food book in the bathroom, so I pick it up and read it several times a day. This is especially great for the more technical raw food books like Tanya Zavasta's and Cousin's books, because then you can absorb deep concepts bit by bit that you might otherwise gloss over if you were reading the book in a day or two. It's also great to keep a pep-talk book like a Bragg book in there too :-)

1 - WHen I run long distances my "GEL" is 10-20 overnight soaked dates 2-4 tbs cacao powder blended.

2 - I have a bottle to coconut oil in the shower, after I wash and shave, I slather my body in it, then wash it off - instant moisture without the greasyness

3 - I use olive oil/coconut oil on my sclap 1-2 times a month.

4 - I rarely use shampoo, (but DO use it wiht #3) - Often just use conditioner

5 - FLoss, Dance and SING - like no one is watching!

jgunn - gel, in England at any rate, is an energy sort of glue substance that runners or cyclists carry with them and imbibe when they start to need fuel. Mostly they need to be sucked down with water but some are ok on their own. Various raw runners such as Brendan Brazier give recipes for equivilent substances.

Most people don't need them untill they hit the 2hour mark but of course there is a lot of advertising and people use energy drinks/gels needlessly in the gym and stuff like that.

Raw athletes have the challenge of trying to discover what to carry with them when they go for very long distances.

I just put it in a stainless steel bottle then on my water bottle belt...
It is GREAT!!
TASTES like chocolate milk!!
Years ago I used to drink coffee and could run like a machine...
Not the same without it...
But This mix seems to work really well at giving me a second wind around the 1.5 hour mark!!

Do you have a water belt...
The mix is not really like gel..more like a chocolate shake..

rawrnr - thanks for that - do you add water - you must do i suppose to make it liquid enough to drink from a bottle.

Sorry to press for the details but i want to try it. The quantity of dates don't cause any unwanted side effects do they??

I have various ways of carrying stuff with me. I have a camelbak but i don't want to start sucking sticky stuff out of the reservoir and through a long plastic tube - can you imagine trying to clean it - ha ha . I have a waist bag and i can put a bottle in that.

if ya want a gel i guess you could mash the soaked dates up and add the chocolate...put in a zip lock bag..

ummmmmm.......maybe i'll try that 2morrow...

1. I sleep as late as I want every morning. I like to wake up gently and on my own. You won't find any alarm clocks in my house.

2. I juice fast weekly for 1 to 3 days.

3. I am a fitness freak and a cardio junkie.

4. Gardening is my therapy.

5. I don't use soap, shampoo, deodorant, or toothpaste. I use a washcloth and a water/acv mixture to bathe, and baking soda to brush my teeth.

6. Material things no longer weigh me down. I stopped wanting. I live a very modest, simple, and uncluttered life.
