Hi all,

I am eating more green now as I posted in another post. I definitely feel much better now.

Now, I really get rid of some steamed foods such as broccoli, eggplant and
patato, and yums.

Can anyone share some ideas to eat broccoli, eggplant, patato, and yums in eaw?

Thank you.

Hi jj,

I think you mean yams, not yums. smiling smiley (that's funny!)

For eggplant, I like to chop it up into bite-size pieces and then mash it in a suribachi. The skins stay whole, the inside stuff mashes up. Then I dump it into a salad or into a mix of avocado, cucumber, red bell pepper, cayenne, and lemon juice. I love it. The skins are the best part.

Not sure if eveyone would like this though.

If you don't have a suribachi, you might try chopping and blending the eggplant. Then add it to your salad.

Suribachis are often available at health food or oriental stores. They also work very well for mashing up sprouted grains to make raw bread. Here is a picture:

Potato is not a food I would consume raw.
Broccoli is wonderful chopped up fine in a salad but you can also marinate it (and cauliflower, etc) in oil and lemon with spices. This changes the texture so it seems steamed.
Yams are ok grated into salad or soup. And I think they are "yum" too grinning smiley.

Warning to UK members -

What are the Americans call 'yams' are our 'sweet potatoes' (pink/red skin, orange/cream inside), and they're excellent raw.

What WE call 'yams' (the dark grey Jamaican root veg) should not be eaten raw (ie don't eat them at all). They're toxic.

Yams you can juice.
Brocolli can be juiced or just eaten whole, or shredded on top of a salad.
Personally I have never eaten raw eggplant, and probably never willsmiling smiley

raw potato is awesome. I spiruly (the act of using a Spiraliser- not sure if my spelling is correct for this verb tense) it in an unchicken noodle soup recipe by Victoria Boutenko which is something like this:

First step
2 cups water
1/2 cup walnuts (or pecans)

Second step
2 cups celery, chopped
2 tablespoons nama shoyu
1 garlic clove
pepper (optional)

Third step
1 medium carrot, grated
1/2 bunch parsley, chopped
2 medium raw potatoes, grated (or processed with a Sprialiser)
1/2 cup dried mushroom, sliced (optional)
Change Measurements: US | Metric

Directions:
Prep Time: 10 mins

Total Time: 10 mins
1 Blend First Step ingredients in the blender.
2 Add Second Step ingredients and blend for about one minute.
3 Pour into a large bowl and add the Third Step ingredients.

Actually, in the US we have yams and sweet potatoes. And often times, even in supermarkets, the names are used interchangeably, even though they are completely different produce.

SO, any two Americans who say "Yam" might actually be talking about two different things in the same conversation...
Here's a good descriptor of the difference:

Here too: [www.eatingbirdfood.com]

And check this out for the toxic effects of Sweet Potatoes:
[vegpeace.org]

And raw Yams are toxic.

Also, I have always heard that eating raw potatoes can also be toxic. I think if you follow your body instincts, you will know. I mean, do you really like the taste of taking a bite out of a potato?!?! I don't! Here is more info about that:

Anyway... I would stick to what your tummy and taste buds tell you! Your body knows what's up!!!
