I don't believe this is a big issue. Do you have a hypothyroid condition? If so, then you can certainly limit these cruciferous items. The litmus test for foods is to go without them for a week....then fast for a day....then eat just this item for a day.....and see how it reacts to your system. In any event, the positive effects of eating just raw food will.....for many individuals....far outweig

Many do. If YOU find no problem digesting non-soaked nuts...and they make you feel fine....then go for it! -David Z. Mason

A number of things can cause hives. I would try to not over-do nuts...yes. Focus on stuffing yourself with greens or fruit that you LOVE instead. But DO go ahead and eat nuts with your salads or whatever. -David Z. Mason

Right. In my experience, it is primarily the skins near the stem....in unripe figs. This is not a problem. Simply peel the stems/skin away. Eat ripe ones. Unripe ones should be cracked in half and placed back in the refrigerator to ripen for a day or two. They won't be as good as the ripe ones, but they won't burn your mouth/lips either. Of course, irritants are long since gone in dried figs.

I am generally more concerned about the quality of my water. As long as THAT is good (I just use the purified from municipal water purification machines at the grocery store)....then store and bring to work in glass bottles. -David Z. Mason

My thoughts: Bacteria are not inherently bad or good. Bacteria CAN give off pathogens based on the crap already in a person's system.........on or in a person's body and environment. Bacteria will reside mostly in the person....and not so much on produce (even unwashed...in my experience). I think your suspicions are probably correct. -David Z. Mason

Good discussion. In order to fast well, one must be motivated by the idea of trying to achieve something.....not deprive one's self of something. To voluntarily give a gift to one's self. One also needs the patience to address the issues that arise during that time - and to sit with them. Just some tips. -David Z. Mason

The above posts are correct. Temperatures vary with the type of produce. You'll have to judge whether the quality of the finished product indicates live food or 'dead' food. -David Z. Mason

No....red bananas will probably be the same. You can also try eating a fruit just singly.....and not with other foods or liquid...to see the reaction. Note: Many poor eaters....or earlier transitioners....make eating assumptions/rules based on their current state. Many healthy foods cause 'negative' reactions in such people....like headaches.....diarhea...nausea....etc....which pass as time g

Good questions! As mentioned by RDUK, just about vegetables that you buy can be minced or sliced into your salads...depending on what your tastes are. Just about all the things you mentioned I've eaten in my salads. Many beans CAN be sprouted, if that's what you're into. The grains you mentioned CAN be sprouted also - if you find them palatable. -David Z. Mason

I hear you. Does ALL fruit do this? All the 1000's of varieties? Take basic precautions (as plainlydressed said) - but it sounds like regular detox to me. In any event, if fruit does not agree with you....that's cool....switch to other things. -David Z. Mason

Excellent. There are many good sites out there....as reference for raising RV pets. Many agree that this can be done....if the dog/cat gets the requirements it needs. Here's an article I can across: -David Z. Mason

You can buy potted herbs in many grocery stores......and often at Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart....etc.....and some nurseries. You can also grow it yourself from seed - I believe. On another note, carbs can often settle a stomach. Have to tried a single banana? Heh...heh. -David Z. Mason

People like to wrap the word 'raw' around many things....and call them ok.....and that's cool. For me, raw means fresh, unprocessed plant foods. I personally avoid coffee and tea...as they are not optimal for me. These days, you cannot really go by what is 'natural' or 'traditional' in terms of diet. One's choices must be highly individualized....and directed.....given the many options out the

I hear your concern. What are you going to do? If you feel the need to eat healthier....or eat raw....you ARE going to do it...heh...heh. I lost a good deal of weight....slowly...over time. But I think everyone will balance out where they are comfortable. On the practical side: Eat larger meals...less often....and lift weights to build dense muscle mass. -David Z. Mason

For seeds: probably sunflower. Very mild - especially when sprouted. For nuts, you are always taking a chance. Fresh walnuts can be easy to digest for some. -David Z. Mason

My experience is like Bryan. For those that are not 100% raw....or in transition....they are usually fine....and quite tasty & helpful. Some have trouble digesting them.....and some long-term raw food folks don't find them appealing. If you are not having trouble with them....and you feel they are right for you...then go for it! -David Z. Mason

Lilbear: Healthy eating is not a cure-all - as I'm sure you're aware. There is also good sleeping habits....sunlight....fresh air....exercise......good mental habits....etc. If you are maintaining an adequate weight.....and you are still hungry...you might be eating for other reasons (emotional...boredom...etc.). On the practical side....you can try eating fewer and larger meals. Eat larg

I hear you. No one is forcing you to eat fruit. Not everyone has the urge or desire to eat lots of fruit....depending on what stage they are at. If you are eating a lot of seeds, one option is to incorporate them into your salads. A juice fast of a couple of days might also break the cycle - if you are so motivated. Just a couple of suggestions. -David Z. Mason

People buy the sizzle - not the steak. If YOU are very excited and living your dreams....then people will want to follow you too....and argue about YOUR technique....which is entirely secondary to your passion. Thus, there is only ONE path...the passion in the individual. The rest is just finding the right suit for the occasion. Heh..heh. -David Z. Mason

I hear you Claire. The above suggestions are great. You are only going to be there for 18 days. Heh...heh. In a lifetime of habits/eating...that is definitely a blip! As you say, they have good salads...and they DO have fruit. I would just let them know that is all you want to eat during your stay......and bring whatever extra snacks you feel are good. No problems. No worries. -David Z. Mason
