Just as a side note, I think (opinion) that people that eat processed foods - especially meat - are often dosed with at least mild doses of food poisoning. It's usually only enough to caused the runs.....mild fever....upset stomach.....headache......but people become accustomed to it....and don't notice it....and (like myself) can often develop IBS or other digestive problems. Its something that

Tam is right - of course. Anything preserved long-term in a jar or can must be rendered enzymatically inert and free of harmful microorgansims....or they would simply breed on the shelf and give off toxins. Commercially, this is usually done through heat pasturization, chemicals or both. You CAN store fresh produce...or krout...in a sealed container in the refrigerator...and a little acid lik

Hmmm...I can relate to those experiences....and they seem very normal to me. You just have to work with 'cravings' and 'addictions' that YOU think are issues....and work to cut down on them and/or find healthier alternatives. One method you can try is to have at least 1 day a week where you do not eat foods that you find bad for you. -David Z. Mason

Sure. You can do as Tam suggested. There are plenty of great smoothie recipes. Or you could stick (as I would do) to straight fruit juices like apple, orange or grape! It's all good. -David Z. Mason

Hmmm...I DO think...in general that being 100% is better...but that is just my personal experience/opinion. An even better thing is for each person to be adhering 100% to the diet (or dream) that THEY think is most important. So: it's the individual path that's important. But this is all common sense - yes? -David Z. Mason

Great info Tam. I agree. Much of the fun of eating this way comes from learning what actually constitutes a fresh/ripe piece of produce. For some....like pineapple....its as much about fruity smell as appearance.....for others....like avocado....its a big texture thing. Vegetables are easier....as you are looking for robust items.....that are large, plump colorful and leafy....without limpness or

I saw him a few years ago and chatted just a bit at rawspiritfest. The whole supplement and superfood thing is not my bag....of course. But I don't fault the guy at all for trying to raise awareness in his way. I don't even mind a bit of grandstanding or theatrics.....I just don't like anyone getting the idea that you HAVE to eat organic foods or HAVE to take supplements....or HAVE to have some k

In the refrigerator...fully dry and fresh....they can probably be edible for many months......or even a year after storage. As to degredation of nutritional value? I don't have any hard numbers....but most of the nutritional breakdown of nuts or dried foods will come through the initial drying....and not the storage - per se. I think you will be able to determine by taste and smell whether a give

Hey C: I can share some of my own experiences (this is the long answer....but I feel it might be helpful to beginners.....so.... I'm gonna do it......cause I'm a pothole......so......bye!) 1) The social aspect of eating healthy....and the interaction with close family and friends....becomes the up-front or eventual sticking point for MOST folks. Beginners: don't kid yourself that it's not! I

OKunDeji: Your brain is only scrambled because you are still looking mostly at what other people have said....and trying to draw a consensus. As stated, 'living' food could strictly be interpreted as any plant foods which are actively growing at the time they are consumed. Enzymes are certainly present in live food.....but not everything that has live enzymes is (in my opinion) a raw food. And ju

Yes: The trick is to find a heartly dish that has texture and taste....and can completely satisfy you. For me, it was a Kale salad with lemon juice, garlic, tomatoes and almonds. Mushrooms can also help...and some like sprouted sunflower seeds. Anyway, YOU will have to experiment with what works for you. -David Z. Mason

People don't 'get it'....heh...heh. I generally make a statement like "I just fresh fruit" when I'm going to be eating with folks. Then I either bring my own or just don't eat. I certainly don't discuss it otherwise. I find that if I don't make it an issue....other people don't either....heh..heh. -David Z. Mason

I've eaten both greens before with no problems....chopped up fine into salads....with no problems....and I don't think there is anything inherent in them that would hurt you...other than higher fiber. On the other hand, each person must certainly choose the foods that make them feel light and energetic - and these don't seem to be 'doing' it for you. The above suggestions are great....and you can

The above are certainly correct. This is a common (and almost inevitable) concern. You can tell them about your healthy lifestyle and how happy you are. This is the greatest converter there is. Along with the patience and humor to accept other folks for where THEY are in their evolution. Ironically, it is ACCEPTING others....with humor....that will make a convert...if there is one to be made.

I agree with the above. If it works for you...and you crave it...keep eating it....and just set a goal to eventually wean off it (if you feel it is less optimal for you). -David Z. Mason

You are still eating many processed items....and some of these items (or just certain combinations of items) may not be working for YOU. You'll have to experiment with individual items to see how they make you feel. In any event, make sure you are eating regularly...and getting enough calories....and you should do well. -David Z. As long as you are not severely underweight, malnourished, or have some other serious condition....my suggestion is that you juice, eat very lightly.....or not at all....and see if your condition improves after 3 days. Often the body reduces appetite when ill...and for good reason. Just my experience. -David Z. Mason

Right. As the others pointed out: there are many different kinds of lettuce. Your standard American Iceberg is not very healthy....while darker Romaine, Bibb, Red & Green lettuces are much more healthy.....as are darker greens like Chard, Spinach, Dandelion greens, Kale, etc. It's probably better to eat some or a little of many kinds of greens...rather than just one....but that's common sense
