I just started doing juicing and food prep for someone who's on the Gerson anti-cancer therapy, and I'm finding it's doing a number on my hands. My cuticles are so dry they're cracking and bleeding; my nails seem to be softening and chipping (they're usually really healthy), and the skin of the tips of my fingers is chapped and peeling. Any advice? I'm doing olive and seabuckthorn oil durin

I am 39, and about 5 years ago I had a bout of extremely oily skin (my skin is oily anyway, but this was ridiculous), and it turned out to be ovarian cysts, which losing a bit of weight seemed to clear up. BTW you don't have to be overweight to have OCs.

This is completely anecdotal, but a few years ago I had a couple of warts on my hand - the first warts of my life! I was coincidentally concerned about my overall health, so I put myself on a regime of fresh wheatgrass juice, ACV, evening primrose oil, and garlic capsules. I had tried several remedies for the warts with no improvement, and I'd resigned myself to their presence. But lo and behold!

I agree with Karennd. There could be lots of reasons why you're experiencing this, but my personal experience is that when I have that type of BM it is alleviated by a course of probiotics (I take a bottle of 60 over a week to 10 days, 6-10 per day in two batches). Good luck! I'm personally pretty sanguine about my bathroom habits, but I have a friend who doesn't have a good day unless she has a

I have an opportunity to do a bit of work doing food prep for someone on the Gerson Anti-Cancer Diet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerson_therapy). She has some DVDs but my DVD player isn't working. Info on WP is scarce, does anyone know somewhere online where I could get some more detailed info?

Per venusian; insomnia is being unable to obtain sufficient sleep in order to feel rested despite attempting to do so (as in, lying awake at night feeling tired but being unable to sleep, and then feeling tired during the day). Do you feel like you're not getting enough sleep despite efforts? If not, then you don't have insomnia.

I use baking soda on my teeth and underarms; I like plain baking soda better for a deodorant because the crystal gave me welts under my arms. On the odd occasion when I'm wearing my midnight blue sleeveless Christian Dior dress (hahaha) I use a clear roll-on. I don't believe that the abrasive quality of baking soda is sufficient to be bad for teeth; my teeth are much much better since I've bee

Notwithstanding the issues of contamination, this is an initiative that is gaining popularity in multi-faceted ways. I wrote a blog post on a similar topic, urban farming, which I'll link to (because it would take too much time to summarise): . It includes information about global initiatives to harvest fruit from private trees and pass it on to social service organisations for distribution to ne

In addition to cellulite, the jiggly fat could be because you lost marbled fat in your muscles, making them smaller, making the layer of fat over them looser. I always lose muscular and visceral fat first, then it re-distributes itself around my body later.

I agree about feeling uncomfortable lying, although IMO it's a personal thing. To me, lying has always seemed like I feel ashamed of my real reasons, as if they aren't good enough. I just try to communicate in a very gentle, loving way that it's nobody's business but mine what I put in my mouth. It's amazing how quickly the blushes come out and the topic changes when you say that with a grin and

Oh cool, I can talk about my company's plant! Seabuckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides L.) contains Omegas 3, 6, 7 and 9, with 3 and 6 in the coveted 1:1 ratio. Most people in the western world consume 3 and 6 in a 1:50 ratio, which, per Bryan, is not ideal. However, seabuckthorn is a superfruit, not considered ideal by raw food purists. Seabuckthorn is in the top 5 plant-based sources of Omega 3 by vo

The bottom line is that generalisations hurt, no matter what they are or the reason for making them. Whether we're saying that women are irrational, men are pigs or non-breasfeeders are selfish. We need to take responsibility for the way we characterise people we don't know, especially in a medium that lasts forever. When we label a young mother who works at Burger King, who has no health insu

Yes, good luck! And since this is now the GVRD thread, may I plug an organisation that I'd love to see supported? If anyone is or knows someone who is a fruit tree owner, and has some extra fruit, consider passing on the info abuot The Vancouver Fruit Tree Project, a not-for-profit org that sends volunteers to pick the extra fruit from private trees, then donates the fruit to needy orgs. Belly fat can be a symptom of several issues that require special help beyond exercise and diet. Here's a copy of the answer I give when I'm answering on Yahoo!Answers: Besides having a higher overall bodyfat percentage, there are several things that can cause a big gut, particularly for women. 1. Ovarian cysts. 2. Enlarged organs (particularly the liver, which can be caused by substance

This is a quote I really like that's just too long to have as a sig: "Everywhere and at all times it is in your power to accept reverently your present condition, to behave justly to those about you, and to exert your skill to control your thoughts, that nothing shall steal into them without being well examined." – Marcus Aurelius
