I get at least 8 hours total, although not always at once. I have gone through periods of time where I slept much less without negative effects (I'm not raw at present), but I try for myself not to get too fetishist either way: I don't like to brainwash myself into thinking I'm going to be a wreck if I get less sleep than usual (I used to be like that and I think it was very much a self-fulfillin

Well I didn't call him professional, objective or a journalist, lol, but perhaps you're right, perhaps we do have different definitions of those words. >

That's really true, Bryan. Hi, BTW :waves: I don't think we've ever interacted before. For research for the company I work for (I'm the publicist/science writer/blog upkeeper etc), it's becoming clear that a great many disorders, both traditional ones like heart disease and recent ones like fibromyalgia and rosacea, are actually symptoms of chronic inflammation, and high fat animal-based diets

At the company I work for (we manufacture nutritional supplements and skincare products using a superfruit called seabuckthorn), we've noticed that fibromyalgia sufferers do very well on our supplements; since our products are high in all four Omegas, and Omegas have a positive effect on mood, it's possible that this is the correlation (per selenes512), but we take the tack that fibromyalgia is a

That article could have been a heck of a lot worse. I think the guy should be given some credit - lots of media personnel would have spun it with a lot more contempt. And don't forget how challenging it would be to approach such a rareified food system with no prior introduction and no guidance. I think the article was overall quite gentle and positive towards raw foodism. It was a bit light on u

The puffiness is interstitial fluid, and it can have many causes, including impaired organ function, particularly heart, liver or kidney; electrolyte (particularly salt and potassium) imbalance; sluggish lymph; weak vascular function; etc.

Jono, I have no arguments or criticisms regarding your diet, I just question your assertions regarding the origins and benefits of thickened skin.

Maui_Greg, for your cholesterol concerns, after your supplemental info, I'd be looking straight to your liver. With that high a fat consumption plus binge drinking, it's going to take up to 3 years for your liver function to return completely to normal. Until then I'd recommend keeping your fat intake as smart as possible (won't say 'low' - you seem to know your body well) while keeping up your O

Jono, thickened skin isn't a good thing. First, it increases the likelihood of blemishes because it lengthens the pores and increases skin cell shedding. Second, the thicker the skin the more skin cells there are to turn over, and the higher the skin cell turnover the higher likelihood of skin cancer. Third, thicker skin ages faster. Now, I'm not sure that I agree with your assertion that more

I have good luck sprouting red rice; it turns out chewy (like sunflower seeds), but not hard. But others I know have found that their red rice won't sprout, or it is hard when they sprout it, so maybe it's the specific variety I have here in Vancouver.

With all due respect to Suraya, I have to disagree with the advice about the loofah; in my experience (I work in the skincare industry), any scrubbing implement (loofah, face cloth etc) applied to the skin may have short term benefits, but they're offset by the long-term detriments, most notably due to the fact that stretching the skin is inevitable when you use a loofah, face cloth etc. The b

Hi Starflower; you've gotten some great advice, and I'm pulling for you! I went from cooked vegan to very unhealthy lacto-ovo-veg over a period of years, and found going back really mentally difficult. I'd become emotionally addicted (and a bit physically too I think) to the food I was eating, and giving things up completely really made me feel bad. So I started doing two things (this isn't speci

I doubt that it's 20% iron per tbsp - that would mean 3 grams of iron, which would probably be lethal, or at least poisonous.

Is it actually true that raisins are high in iron? I remember reading something a few years ago that said there was confusion about raisins because they'd tested high in iron during a certain period of time during which all raisins were cured in iron vats, which leached iron into the fruit.

I do a job for a few hours a week preparing food and juice for someone on the Gerson diet, and she has a Magic Bullet. I like it so much I'm planning on buying one for myself and my mom, although if I were doing more intensive food prep for myself I might go for something like the vitamix. I find it spectacular for pureeing small quantities of veggies and fruit, and for making fresh flour, meal a

Two things really helped me; the first is I stopped crossing my knees. A chiropractor told me to do it - he said that it tilts the uterus so the cervix doesn't open right. It started helping within a couple of months, and I've never looked back. The second is I have started massaging the accupuncture point on the insides of my knees. The point is towards the inside bottom of the front of your

QuoteMormons have less heart disease — something doctors have long chalked up to their religion's ban on smoking. New research suggests that another of their "clean living" habits also may be helping their hearts: fasting for one day each month.

Sounds like candida to me. Lots of people don't realise you can have a yeast overgrowth without the typical vaginal yeast or mouth candidiasis etc. When I went on a raw food fast I got a horrible case of candidiasis from my immune system being overwhelmed by cleansing (then I got horrible tonsillitis when I killed the yeast too fast, but that's another story...) You could also be lacking the i

All I know is, I fall asleep with my mouth closed. I sleep one of three ways: on my right side, on my left side, or on my back. I sometimes get settled for sleep on my stomach, but I can't fall asleep in that position.
