argh, i can't find coconut oil anywhere! (and i live in brazil, dangit!) yeah, i've cut down on the coffee a LOT (when i lived in the states i pretty much existed on starbucks). i use fitday, it's really helped put things in perspective. i love that it can show you your vitamin/mineral intake for the day too. thanks coco!

thanks ksmanthey! you confirmed my suspicions...too much sugar. i didn't want to admit it to myself! i think it would be pretty possible to have a more veggie/grain based breakfast, at least sometimes. and i LOVE green smoothies. also, i use stevia in my espresso too, but i really like the taste of brown sugar better. but i suppose i could cut down. thanks for the help!

hi everyone! i haven't posted in awhile. last october i went 95% raw for about 5 weeks and loved it. i slowly began adding cooked foods back in, mostly whole grain rice and pasta, beans, and oatmeal. i really like how i'm eating now, but my weight loss has pretty much come to a stop. i'll admit i've had some slip-ups, but for the most part each day i eat about 60% raw, and most of the rest come

i stumbled across this by accident... i was making a salad, and cut the tomato last. it was very ripe, so lots of that juicy/pulpy goop with the seeds squished out as i chopped it. i mixed all of my veggies together, then decided not to waste the tomato goop, so i dumped it all off of my cutting board on top of the salad. i squeezed on some lime juice, added sea salt and dried herbs, and mixed

cy...you should visit! northeastern brazil is gorgeous...the beaches here are mesmerizing. i've always wanted to visit recife...i subscribed to andrea's blog, but i can't find contact info. do you know her email address? do you have a good process for sun-dehydrating? i'd like to try it, but i'm not sure what to do or even what food i should dry. you know, to be honest i see a lot of des

oi cy, tudo bem?? i did the master cleanse too. my first time was back in april...10 days, plus 2 days of oj/grapefruit juice, then almost a week of raw. i absolutely loved it. i had been having serious health problems, tons of allergies...and i felt so so so much better after the cleanse. i had headaches sometimes too, and very strange dreams, but overall my energy was great. i think par

hi guys, a friend of mine (not raw or vegan) was complaining to me that she is losing her hair. she asked if i had any recommendations on foods she should eat to help. i researched a little and mostly found websites saying that this was protein deficiency and she should eat more liver and organ meat. uh, no. have any of you experienced hair growth on raw, and what did you eat to achi

i know what you mean....i teach classes at night, so when i get home at 9:30/10:00 i'm hungry. i no longer need to be full to go to sleep, but i can't sleep if my stomach is growling. i've been having either a green smoothie or watermelon on these nights. i avoid nuts and fats that late. so far, i haven't seen any bad effects...i feel great in the morning and am still losing weight. so i guess it

lee....oh my gosh, are they really having kids read that book?? thank goodness!! when i was in texas i brought it to school and showed a few of my students. i completely think it should be required reading. it is kind of ironic though, considering more and more high schools have mcdonald's, taco bell, and subway in their cafeteria's. awesome links too, thanks!! good luck with the greens...

i know what you mean.... i don't know much about watercress, but i tried it in a green smoothie once too. it was too spicy! it actually burned deep in my throat for awhile after i drank it, kind of painful. i'm stickin to spinach, romaine, and mint leaves in my smoothies.

at the market i found some raw nuts still in their shells....labeled "nozes", which is portuguese for nuts. so i bought some to try, not knowing exactly what type they were. got home, cracked one open....looks and tastes exactly like a pecan!! they were so cheap, they couldn't have been imported, and i'm pretty positive brazil doesn't have many pecan trees....what else could they hav

you guys are so awesome, thanks for all the insight. coconutcream....very wise words. i'm not out to convert anyone, and honestly i probably won't mention this to her unless she brings it up again. but for my own knowledge, i wanted the scientific proof. which i guess isn't necessary. i eat raw. i feel good. end of story.

so yesterday my esl student and i were reading a book review of "fast food nation", which led to a great discussion about health and the meat industry. she mentioned that she had a friend who was vegetarian, but took some protein capsules because of the no meat thing. i said that if she ate right, she shouldn't need them....and that led to the "but animal meat has certain proteins

hi, pineapple girl! here in brazil, you'd be called "menina de abacaxi"! i LOVE pineapple too. sorry about the issues you're having....how does it make your mouth bleed? is it the texture? the brazilian pineapples are smaller, and it's a little easier to tell when they're ripe. they go from black to a deep reddish-brown with some orange-yellow in spots. and, amazingly, they're a

hi all, i've been raw for almost a month now and LOVE IT. i've done a few juice fasts before, and i've done the master cleanse twice in the past. i'd like to start incorporating one 3 day juice fast a month into my diet...i love the way i feel after a fast! problem is, i really cannot afford a juicer right now. however, the oranges and tangerines here are so amazingly juicy, all i have to d

phew, it's been awhile! well, i went to the beach this weekend....and had a very seriously non-raw day thursday. like i said, i never wanted to be 100%, but i went waaaaay overboard. meat...beer,...bread....coffee....cheese....oh my god. i woke up extremely early friday morning, sat up, and was so overwhelmed with nausea that i passed out cold on my bed. when i came to, i just barely made i

la_veronique....don't worry, i'm enjoying my time here VERY much! the cacao is pretty crazy....it's shaped kind of like a football, and i've seen various shades of green, red, yellow, and orange. the gourd is really easy to break open, and the hollow inside has a long stem with a bunch of pods growing off of it. the pods are white and covered with the pulp, so they're wet. you can suck off the pu

good question.....i only buy plantains, because sometimes i want less banana in my smoothies, and if you cut a banana in half and let it sit for awhile it gets brown and gunky. plus i'm in brazil and there's plantains everywhere. anyone know anything definite? i've been eating between 4 and 8 a day and feel great.
