Everybody here hit the nail on the head. Teas do comprise very little of your caloric intake, and if they keep you from drinking other unhealthful processed things, stick to it! A great rule of thumb is: pay close attention to how your body feels while consuming and after consuming. It will tell you all you need to know. Caffeine makes me a bit wonky now. I also find that my mouth is MUCH more

Boyfriend, exasperated: "WHY are you CRYING?" Me: "Because I feel like it!" I think my emotions were one of the first parts of my body/mind to start detoxing. I definitely feel more open and in tune with everything--but if the tears hit, they hit. I always feel better if I let them out. =)

(Where is Wheatgrass Yogi?! ^.^) I've been wondering the same thing. Maybe if I get a juicer... But I've also been saying since last June, "Maybe if I get a Vitamix..." Haha. In any case, try it, and see how it makes you feel--and then share with us! =)

I do eat sprouts, but I'm still experimenting and have a wide variety: grains, beans, lentils, leafies, micro-greens, brassicas. Do you know which are best for omega 3s? I ask because they all obviously have very different nutritional profiles. =) I am slowly, slowly working my way down to a reasonable fat intake. My first month of raw was atrociously fatty, the second was a little better: I t

I do mine with a little sprouting jar, and it's easy as pie, provided you get good chickpeas (I've used ones from sproutpeople, but found some in bulk at whole foods that taste even better, just experiment!). Soak them for 8 hours, and rinse 3 times/day for 2-3 days. Tails should pop out like lightning. If they are getting funky, my suggestion would be to make sure they are draining properly?

Flax seems to be the only thing that I *cannot* get to sprout... and I'd love to get it sprouted since I'm getting paranoid about my omega balance. I have a hemp bag. Flax is different because you can't soak mucilaginous seeds. Does anyone else get it to sprout? Can you please give me a step-by-step breakdown of how exactly you do it? e.g., amount of seed, how much water to moisten, how frequ

What happens if they do give you gas? =( If I have more than maybe 1/2 cup, my stomach gets kind of growley, but in smaller amounts, they seem to be okay. I'd love to hear the dirt, though, since I adore chickpeas... (Why do so many of us love them so?!)

Firstly: HOW in the HECK are BLUEBERRIES acidic?!?! I thought they were supposed to be one of the better berries for you, very antioxidizing, etc.? How?! Why?! Do the benefits outweigh the acidity? Mmm... and the chart also says sprouts are alkalizing, but lentils are acidic. So, what about sprouted lentils? O.o It was very nice to see a chart like this, anyway. Edit: tahini wa

Certain types of sprouts will do that, the same thing happened to me (can't remember with which batches, I have so many). All the sprouts I've had so far have been alright if I (unfortunately) miss a chance to water. There's nothing like sitting up in bed, after you're all warm and cozy and the house is cold, "...I have to water my sprouts."

As for the coconut oil... One day I ate 1/3 a jar (probably 8 tbsp or more?!), and zero laxative effect. I was HUNGRY for whatever was in that. It was a mad coconut lust. I did drop a lot of weight during my first month, which is when this happened, so it's possible it was still doing a lot of cleansing, just not so violently. I also did specifically get raw coconut butter--oil with meat, so

1213. Omegas!
So, hemp seed oil has the perfect balance of omegas, and I've heard a lot that nuts/seeds/fatty fruits will take care of this balance for you. But I was wondering if anyone knew specifically which fruits/nuts/seeds were good for which omegas? Especially if you want to cut out oils as much as possible? What about durian, coconuts, avocados? Any nuts, seeds, or sprouts that are particularly g

Sea Tangle doesn't ship to Canada @#)%(*!)!@($*#)@(%*)@!)(*&$(%*& Sushi restaurants... Seaweed salads rock my world, the wakame are particularly delicious. They may have trace amounts of soy/vinegar/MSG, so make sure to ask so you know what you're getting, and if you're at a point in your travels where you still consume those things, etc. I of course won't do the MSG, but I used to wor

In any case, there's lot of love and support here, and some other people dealing with the diabetes issue + raw foods as well. =) In situations like that, I try not to let myself get hurt or angry. It's especially difficult when coming from loved ones. Just smile, nod, let them say their piece, and then engage in something totally joyfully, like opening a durian. Or celery, if that's your thing

There are gentler, natural toothpastes without a majority of the most damaging chemicals (some naturally-derived but processed things are always in question). Getting rid of fluoride is a wonderful thing to do for your body. Tom's of Maine and Desert Essences are reasonably-priced brands that I have found which are without most of the nastiest chemicals. And, yes, during detox, especially when

Bobati, You know, for most of my life, I couldn't stand children. I hated hearing them cry, I hated being around them, I saw them only as a burden--this had a lot to do with my childhood, specifically with my mother. Interestingly, it wasn't until I went completely raw (or started filling my body with only living things, just embracing life in general), that I experienced a spontaneous emotion

Blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, or soaked goji berries. Usually, I don't eat them all together. But sometimes I do. Raspberries have disappeared from the markets for a while, and I just had them for the firs

Fasts aren't critical to switching to a raw foods diet, but they do accelerate the detox process. It puts you in a direct line of communication with your body, and for the first time, it's when a lot of people get to hear/experience directly all the ways in which they've been living unhealthfully. Not that fasts are by nature scary and painful--they are beautiful, energizing, and transforming--bu

There are loads of awesome raw foods to help you transition switching out cooked meals... Zucchini noodles are a personal favorite of mine. Also considering learning how to sprout--it's cheap, fun, and super nutritious, and try eating new fruits and vegetables you've never seen before--like DURIAN. <3 And visiting this board frequently has helped me tremendously. =) Most importantly, sta

I don't have the link anymore, but a while ago I read something about a Chinese kung-fu master who was still whooping everyone around him well past the 100 year mark. His diet included a lot of raw food (tomatoes especially), chi work, and martial arts, obviously--but it did mention that at three points in his later life, after the 70's, he experienced a full-body skin shedding. The article could

I think it's important to both trust your intuition, and make educated decisions. There is always conflict when people try to label man as one or the other--rational, spiritual, religious, scientific, etc--when we are all wholes, greater than the sum or our parts. I remember reading about a priest who died trying to walk on water. But I've also read about plenty of cancer patients whose positi

I can't get enough of raw green papaya salads from a local Thai restaurant. >8) Strangely, I've never seen green ones in the Asian market. Do they look any different than mature pink ones? I've also seen papayas called "big papayas," but never tried them. >.>
