I was wondering--since sometimes I'm getting that much with sprouts--is too much raw vegetable protein still as dangerously acidic? Even if the protein you're getting comes from alkaline foods?

If you can get oranges THAT cheap... Seize the day!! I've orange juice fasted for three days at a time, and my only complaint is that, with my body that is usually cold, and citrus being a "cooling" food, I get very chilly. But juice fasts are nice to give your digestive system a rest, while still getting some energy, especially if you have to work. There are a lot of sites/bo

I was getting 3-4000 my first month. I still went from 115 to 100 pounds, and I'm 5'7''. Crazy weight loss the first month is normal. I read that first the body burns through old toxins and damaged tissues, and then begins to build new ones (same reason a lot of people on 40 day water fasts can gain weight toward the end). Rather than calories, I would focus on fresh, raw foods and whether

While doing a mono-orange stint for a few days, out of curiosity, I logged into fitday.com just to see what kind of nonsense 20 oranges in one day did for my body. Turns out, I had just shy of a day's worth of protein and well over a day's worth of calcium! Fitday will answer any questions you have about precise content, for sure. All fruits and veggies just about contain some traces of

I have to second the notion that, barring something like a car accident (knock on wood), there's no reason for someone living a healthy raw lifestyle to end up at the doctor's office, or in the hospital. Raw, for me, was what finally got me out of those places, for good. The funny thing is, I became raw because I had been sick for months as a result of a ton of antibiotics given to me for a

I quit caffeine my last year of high school because I was beginning to notice some SERIOUS ADD-like symptoms happening with myself. I went cold turkey. For two weeks, I slept 14 hour nights and literally HAD to take naps when the moment struck... and then I was fine. The storm passed and the sun came out. Now, if I ever do have it on occasion, it makes me wacky. @.@

I just started dry brushing. I haven't been doing it long enough to say how well it works, but it's easy, inexpensive, and worth googling, IMO. =)

I rather enjoy the water and meat of one young coconut + 2 bananas... Add pineapple/mango/soaked gojis/or a spoonful of raw cacao! The banana and coconut make a sweet and gentle base. My stomach doesn't like complicated smoothies, so even the two together will really hit your sweet spot. =)

One of the things that really intrigued me when I first started learning about raw was this quote from the main page of rawfoodexplained.com: "If your blood is formed from eating pure foods, your brain will function in a manner that will surprise you. Your former life will take on the appearance of a dream, and for the first time in your existence your consciousness awakens to a real

I'm the same way with rice. If I have a bite, it's never just a bite, it's out of control. I'm still in transition, so I think my body is reminded of old habits and just goes crazy.

It helps to get ones that are properly ripe. If they are too hard, they're really yucky. When I started eating them, I had no idea how to tell which ones were ripe. If you squeeze them, they should yield with some pressure, but not SMOOSH in your hand.

I just got my Ovu-trac Tuesday afternoon, and it's awesome. You lick a microscope slide to see whether or not salts are present in the saliva to determine where in the ovulation cycle you are. The salts change 4-6 days before ovulation--a nice window of forewarning, whether you are trying to succeed in or avoid conception. I was tracking my temperature beforehand, and Tuesday morning I had a s

Durian gives me the satisfaction of a Thanksgiving dinner, hands down every time. The richness is fabulous from both old (cooked) and new (raw) perspectives--it's fantastically complex and filling. It's ice cream, it's almonds, it's lovely sweet fruit, it's custard, and it's countless more things that beggar description. One durian contains a day's worth of fiber, so I think that has something to

There was actually a study done that said eight hugs a day boosted your seratonin levels! I don't know about foods that promote seratonin levels, but a lot of starches/pastas/rices have a very opiate/sedative effect, so I could see how this would naturally interfere with seratonin production. Same with stimulants. I don't know what your daily food intake looks like, but maybe this is something

I have been gravitating toward high-magnesium foods since I've gone raw, without even thinking about it--and craving them like wild. I have to add coconut and durian to the list of foods with a considerable amount, since no one mentioned them and they are my lovers. <3 Thank you for sharing your story. That's particularly interesting about the lima beans... Goes to show our bodies know what

Since the coconut butter I had was raw, I didn't want to heat it up any other way, and warm water was the only thing I could think of. It took a while, though. ~.~ And then... I'd just get into eating it... and eating it. Yum (sorry, Coco, haha)! I've switched to olive oil for my skin, since I won't eat that out of the bottle. And coconut oil works for oil pulling?

^^ Very true. I had sort of a weird moment this Christmas. I had an unavoidable dinner with my boyfriend's family, and I was sticking to a large variety of fresh fruit. (The holidays are challenging enough!) His brother's girlfriend started on a tangent about this "really weird girl" she knew who (spoken very disdainfully), "ate only fruit, then microwaved it because she wanted

I'm sure my rage for coconuts right now has something to do with a previous magnesium deficiency. XD In any case, while raw may not be the be-all-end-all, just compare all of the people reversing terminal cancers, neurological disorders, etc. with a raw diet, vs. anyone who would try to do the same thing on fast food and pop! Ultimately, just work with your body and see how it responds to d

I have been seeking these answers for quite some time. If I can ever find a good source, I will totally post it here for everyone. Meantime, I'll just dance around and eat my raw chickpea curry. I found one sketchy source somewhere that said "mature sprouts" for chickpeas, and it was around 50 cal/cup, with incredibly higher nutrition stats than the cans at the grocery store. No o

Even going from 50% raw/50% cooked vegan to 100% raw, I've definitely had some crazy things happen, too. It seems like whenever my body starts a new phase of changes, my bowels are unstable. This is usually accompanied with the white tongue, some breakouts, or other uncomfortable symptoms. I also easily get 200% worth of fiber/day. Just make sure you're getting enough, and if your energy le

You could also try making a sauce--something I've wanted to do but just have too many other fresh things to eat to get around to it, haha--try blending an apple with some lemon juice, add dates and cinnamon, and then maybe warm the grains on the stove with the sauce just a tiny bit, so it's like an oatmeal something? I use that sauce with other things, and it's delicious...

Hey, Dee, I was wondering how this problem has progressed for you since the time you've posted? (I had to dig for the thread!) I ask, because I'm into my third month 100% raw, now, and I'm starting to experience some of the same conflicts. And any words from anyone else who went through/are experiencing something similar would be golden. =) Simply put, my energy levels are starting to soar,

I just salivated at that last post! The problem for me was always getting the flesh out of mature coconuts, before I found a place that sold the young ones. Otherwise, if it hadn't been so much work, I would have eaten the mature ones like the butter.

*!* That makes a lot of sense, too, Utopian Life. Okay, gross, but... My first month of raw was basically to recover from a senseless amount of damage done to my body by antibiotics, which included horrible bleeding for 33 days straight, followed by nightmares with the pill to try and make it stop (that was a new can of worms, though). And the amount of fats I ate that first month was i

I haven't tried enzymes, but if you ever have the chance with the situation, I second the huge green salad. My boyfriend took me out for a surprise on Valentine's Day (he did warn me, "You might have to eat something cooked...", and it was to a Mediterranean place we had our first date at, so I wasn't going to object to his sentimentality. Raw options were very limited, so I got a GIA
