Haha, stoner, maybe you and I are of similar composition! Before going totally raw, I used to eat raw peanut butter. I had my own personal jar and would just pack it down, I loved it. If people ever said anything about me being vegan or thin, my roommate would always yell, "DON'T WORRY! YOU SHOULD SEE HER EAT PEANUT BUTTER OUT OF THE JAR!!" Then it was raw coconut butter (the oil wit

I guess I answered some of my own questions, but this link was pretty informational: It does all come back to balance. I boiled the rind just for a few minutes out of idle curiosity: interestingly, the water turned instantly a neon green, and had a very strong, bitter taste, similar to a tea I used to make with green cardamom, cloves, ginger, and black pepper. It's very weird. As the

I'm not sure if boiling the rind to make a tea would destroy all of the good stuff or not. I'll experiment. >8) Last night, lying awake in bed, I had the epiphany: make a SUN TEA! Although, it's quite below zero and snowing heavily, so I may have to wait to keep you posted on the sun tea experiment. Sigh. I do agree with you on the, "if it tastes bad, we probably shouldn't eat i

I just recently discovered mangosteens--they're DELICIOUS. Apparently, there's also a boatload of nutrition in the rind: mega-antioxidants, xanthones... which tastes beyond awful. Every site on the internet with "information" is somewhat elusive, and ends up wanting to sell you a product. My one coworker's mother sells a juice--PASTEURIZED--which is a combination of the fruit juice a

...or those little things I can't stop eating enough of! Does anyone have the nutritional DL for these guys? Also, are sprouted lentils one of the more "optimal" sprouts, like alfalfa, or "not quite as optimal," like grains? I was making the raw hummus earlier all week, but now I just eat them out of my sprouter like popcorn. The flavor variance between chick peas is als

Natural hygienists say the body can't use minerals in water, anyway--it just works harder to flush them out, hence the importance of distilled water. They say we get usable minerals from plants. But that's just what they say.

I spent all day wondering about what to do for the boyfriend, too. ~.~ Duh! He's very rebellious, and since I'm raw, sometimes he'll refuse things just for that reason--but nothing can keep him away from the desserts. MUAHAHAH~! I've been trying to cut back on the nuts, though--if I wanted to make a crust for a pie, does anyone have ideas? Sprouted grains? Or at least soaked nuts, maybe?

I'm dying to go to Thailand just for the FRESH FRUIT. <3 And warm weather... Hopefully the fast will be in a very beautiful and peaceful place. I'll also second everyone else and say to consider the extra products and supplements very carefully--if it's essential to the body, nature should already provide it. Durian. Is. FANTASTIC!! I eat a whole one every day (sometimes only half if the

I bought some specifically raw coconut oil for my itchy itchy legs, and for every little bit I used on my body, I found myself eating spoonfuls at a time, and it was impossible to stop. I haven't bought another jar, just because I was getting an amount of sat fat out of this world. It's so yummy, though. <3 It's also quite nutritious, despite the fat. You could be craving magnesium? I've sw

When I finally adjust to eating less, not only will it be more $$$ feasible, but my body might be more prepared to appreciate the changes--better absorption, etc. But I'm driving the cheapest car I can and LOOOOOOVING the ride! If we're using the analogy... Thanks a million for that site!

That's HORRIFYING. O.O Conventional is great, but the only thing worse than paying in blood for organic produce is paying in blood for rotten conventional labeled as organic.

Ugh, I couldn't touch greens in the AM! At 50% raw, I started my journey with a cornucopia of fresh fruits every morning. Mangoes were my favorite. Now, if I eat before noon, it has to be light, fresh, sweet, simple and juicy. Blackberries, blueberries, or raspberries, followed by strawberries if I'm still hungry. Soaked goji berries are great, too--I'm really digging the sweet+tangy, juicy,

Everyone here has listed great ideas. Another thing that really helps me when all I can do is think about cooked food--I come online and find something inspirational to read. It helps me stay motivated and focused. =)

Thanks for the awesome list. Although I'm slightly depressed now... haha. When I can find organic strawberries, they're never for less than $6/carton. It's robbery, IMO. I had no idea peaches were so loaded with pesticides.

Chinatown~! Once I went to the Chinese markets, I never did shopping at regular grocery stores again. I have found joys like 13 oranges/$2, 3 cartons of strawberries/$3. Certain things are caveat emptor--but if you end up throwing away one or two dollars worth of fruit because it was rotten, it's nothing like the giant bag of organic mangoes I bought from the conventional store for $2/mango an

Try new things! Find new fruits, nuts, vegetables to love. Learn to sprout. Learn some raw gourmet recipes. Don't think about the old, the binging, and the sacrifice--think about the new, fun, fresh and exciting! If you do want something cooked, I have found two routes for dealing with the cravings: First, I swear by baked potatoes. They're not optimal, but they're certainly not evil. Or tr

I used to have VERY curly hair and bright green eyes as a child. Now my eyes are mostly brown with the greens varying, and I have insolent, meddlesome, fluffy waves (raaarr!), rather than curls. A lot of people I know have had hair darken as well. Perhaps enzymes? I guess the question would be, do people on a better diet experience the same changes in hair color as people with less than opt

Greg, yes, the studies were with a partner. I've also read a lot about similar benefits with tantra-style practices, but haven't found much empirical data to defend those claims. =\ I think it has a lot to do with the chemical processes that are first triggered, and then heightened with a partner, that don't normally occur without one. Plus, trust, intimacy, security, etc., are all part of emotio

I don't think it's imperative we all take estrogen supplements lest we age before our time. That's what antioxidants, exercise, and greens are for... and sex!! XD One study I *can* site for everyone: I think it was called "Secrets of the Superyoung" (or something very close to that). People who have sex three times a week, regularly, have internal health/external appearances seven ye

I was checking out the raw vegan blog--very informative. But distilled water is acidic?! I thought it was awesome for detoxing, because there are no inorganic minerals to remove from the water itself, and it soaks up more inorganic matter that needs to be flushed from the body? O.o

It's been two months for me, and some of the biggest changes I've noticed are: -Dropped 20 pounds without even TRYING (I was a size 3 before I started) -Sharpening of senses: smell, taste, and possibly vibrancy of colors in nature (maybe it's an eye for fruit? ^.~) -Overcame a long and paralyzing depression, found a renewed sense of belonging to the world, moods are much more stable -More e

At 50% raw, I loved green smoothies, and after two months of 100% raw, I reeeeaaaalllly have a hard time with blended food. I'm also slowly gravitating toward mono-eating, and meals less complex. Basically, the idea behind food combining is, you want to eat things in order of how quickly they digest, from fastest to slowest. You don't want to eat half a cup of macadamia nuts, followed by an or

My first month of raw was EAT EAT EAT EAT EAT EAT EAT EAT. That seems to be slowing down somewhat, as I'm getting more in touch with what actual hunger/fullness really feels like. I still do eat very frequently and in large amounts, but it's nearly all fruit. <3 Also, eating before I go to sleep makes my stomach very angry, when I used to be notorious for late-night falafel binges et al.

Thank you thank you thank you everyone, I was wondering this for a while, too. >.< I did just recently pick up a basal thermometer at my local drugstore. It measures to the 100th of a degree, which is pretty cool. Although, my temperature is always WAY higher the next day if I eat cooked food... so that alone I don't think would be reliable. I have to investigate getting an ovutrac ar
