1291. Re: Puffy?
Young coconut water is supposed to be great for electrolytes/potassium/a bunch of other fun things as well. Maybe that could help? =)

Durian is supposed to be warming. <3 Citrus is cooling, and I do find those to have a very chilly effect on me.

I haven't thought about disease and my agenda, which is a good point. I did get rid of the strawberries, and made some subtle rearrangements so all of his meat was on one side and my produce on the other. The fridge is seriously so small, there are only two shelves and one drawer. X.X I just wanted to make sure my concerns were legitimate before having THE TALK. Hehe. Thanks, everyone.

"No, i just don't think you should run around calling yourself raw, when you are obviously not!" "well, i actually run around calling myself Greg and I eat the food that feels right to me..." Allow me to extend a HUMONGOUS high-five in your direction, Greg, that made me smile. =) I found the list informational: a lot of the items I don't consume on a regular basis, but

So, my roommate and I share what is unfortunately a very small fridge. I've never had any problems with it before, until this morning, I found some chicken defrosting against my pack of strawberries. >.< I've heard somewhere that it's more sanitary to keep meat in its own drawer. Normally, he'll take it out of the fridge completely to let it defrost, so I've never been in this situation.

There are a lot of AMAZINGLY cheap door-to-door organic produce deals in Toronto. I, unfortunately, live 20-30 minutes OUTSIDE of Toronto, and do not get to cash in on the delights. .\/. (mad face!) Strangely, sometimes the cities have advantages.

Are sprouted grains like amaranth, quinoa, and spelt as bad as wheat? I bought a little bit to try growing, out of curiosity, but now I wonder, should I be eating these? O.o

I've heard big detox symptoms are milestones and should be embraced, so I'm excited on that note, BUT... I'm starting to get a sore throat! My whole life I was prone to terrible sore throats, sometimes to the point where my neck would swell and I couldn't turn my head, so no doubt I have some healing to do in that department. I successfully mono-oranged for three days, and now last night into

Raw conventional is more than fine. Organic bananas are DEFINITELY affordable, but I'm not going to pay $6 for one little carton of organic raspberries when I can go to the Chinese market and get three of the same sized cartons for $1-2 total. I'd rather eat raspberries everyday, than organic raspberries once every paycheck. ^.^ I am finding that organic is more flavorful, sometimes more filli

I was 50% raw for a while and loved the raw gourmet. Lots of berry pies, and lots of green smoothies with 5-6 types of greens and whatever fruit I felt like. I was a food combiner's nightmare. :O After I switched to 100% raw, I find myself wanting things one at a time, even in a meal where I eat several things. I used to amuse myself with food by having a bit of one thing, then another, then a

Since the middle school years, I suffered bouts of terrible depression. One of my main motivations to go raw had been to lift my spirits--before I switched, I could tell my moods were getting worse and I didn't feel like myself, or anyone I wanted to associate myself with anymore. For the first 2-3 weeks, I felt weepy for no reason and like something inside me was "digging." Th

This is one thing I've always wondered about, and I just decided to make a topic, rather than derailing a bunch of other ones. >.> For people who have raised raw children, HOW do you do it? I'm very interested in unassisted birthing. Homeschooling also seems so much better than public or private schooling, but how do you manage to keep the children socially well-rounded? How do they get

I love the meat, too, so I was thinking about scraping all the coconuts and just freezing the meat--perhaps to make a raw dessert, or just to snack on later. I'll experiment with finding the coconut "bellybutton." I'll keep you posted when I try to fast, I suppose, but there are a lot of delicious perishables in my fridge that I have to eat, first. I'll also probably look insane l

I really love coconut water. Loooove it. It's my new energy drink (not that I drank energy drinks before, ha ha). It's also supposedly insanely nutritious--electrolytes, vitamins, minerals--and it's something my body is craving right now. I can feel I'm also due for a short-term fast--some digestive problems I had earlier in the year linked to medication are resurfacing, I think my body's tryi

I've noticed organic bananas have a better texture and are more perfumey than the conventional. I can't go back to conventional ones now. Bananas and I have a silly relationship. Sometimes I love them, sometimes I can't stand them, and for the occasional sweet treat, I'll throw them in the blender with some cacao nibs and strawberries. Either way, they are a partner for life. =)

I've always wondered that myself. If the body can do everything else on its own (especially as boasted by natural hygienists), why is unsupervised fasting an *ABSOLUTE* no-no? Granted, I have never fasted for more than ten days, so I can't speak personally for lengths of time beyond that. I can see where support and guidance would be helpful for the average person, but I don't see how it wo

I know someday when I have children, I don't want to compromise their nutrition or give them anything less than raw--but what happens when you send them to school? How do raw parents deal with the incredible pressure from society, especially when they can't be there? I remember being in kindergarten, getting 25% real denatured juice high fructose orange drink and crackers.

My roommate just came back from three weeks in Mexico (we live in Canada). He had SO many stories of fresh coconuts on the beach, the mango, avocado, date, and guava trees in his yard (!!), fresh limes and chilis--it made me a bit jealous!! Haha. I've never been to Mexico myself, but from what I've heard, it could be a raw food paradise. =) There are a lot more foods available compared to what we

I've done it twice: both were incredibly eye-opening experiments, and motivated me to start adding more raw foods to my diet. It is mind-blowing to see what's stuck inside the body--not just in the colon, but in the skin, the mouth, and the nasal pathways. I quit the first cleanse on the 4th day, but I made the second through to ten days. I had a few milestones I found very interesting: I a

I do have INTENSE young coconut cravings right now, and it turns out, they are loaded with magnesium. I will pay close attention to other sources, too, and try pairing them with something high-vitamin C. I tried to mono-banana for 2 1/2 days. I felt good, but was getting very thirsty--when it's local Ontario peach season, I'll be able to mono without trying. =) Next time the grocery store has

Has anyone managed to get rid of them, and what have you done? Mine have improved slightly after going raw, and they may go away in time--but it doesn't seem like any time soon. ~.~ I read somewhere that vitamin C is supposed to help? I'm already eating goji berries nearly every day, with a high fruit diet, so I'm getting 10-20 times the RDA, I'm sure. (My % is in the 1000's when I check on fi

I had a medical incident that wrecked several months of my life after the fact, and that made me want to dive right in to all kinds of different cleanses to get my health, life, and sanity back. I was also willing to do whatever it took to have the results NOW! .\/. But the demands of my job (a job demanded by my rent) didn't allow the environment I needed to water fast. That fast lasted about

I have the WORST nighttime snack attacks as well. On days I work, it isn't so bad, because I can plan my meals around my schedule--but on my days off, if the kitchen is just a few steps a day, it's easier to think about food, eat more often, and later. For me, if I'm in the throes of violent craving, I have a few fail-safe plans. >8) Even if you don't want to snack late, try to make it a
