what about coconut (its a fruit, not a nut!). you can make coconut noodles and toss them with a spicy thai-style sauce. (coconut, lemongrass, cilantro, lime, thai chiles are all things that come to mind...) or zucchini noodles (just use your vegetable peeler if you don't have a fancy spiralizer) tossed with a pesto-esque sauce of basil, olive oil, diced tomatoes, ground pepper, garlic, etc...

because The Ta-Dah Guide to Raw Foods by Simple Living > ...it's simple. Eat more natural food and > less man-made food. Ta-dah! This isn't rocket > science. won't sell many copies i suppose... but in all seriousness, once you've sort of mastered the basics (ta-dah!) and you're a few miles down the path, i'm sure that the spiritual avenues that open up once the body ha

i just use the thin strip of metal type. but i agree, a kitchen spoon would probably work great! definitely scrape before brushing...

it usually only takes one good back-of-house scrape, which is probably equivalent to 20 brush scrubs. you can usually overcome the gag reflex for that one scrape, but if you had to do it multiple times in a row, you probably WOULD gag.

serious detox tongue fuzz calls for measures far tougher than the toothbrush. a chain saw might work. but seriously, i've used my tongue scraper for 7 months, and i don't think i've damaged any tastebuds. they would be red and inflamed if i had, and that isn't the case. Check it out: The Effects of Daily Mechanical Tongue Scraping vs. Daily Mechanical Tongue Brushing on Bacterial Flor

we're all wired differently psychologically... for me (i'm attracted to extremes) going whole hog was easiest -- it was fun and exciting for me to do it that way, like jumping off a cliff. for others, slow if not very slow gradual progression seems to work best. i think the important part is not to struggle with it, or if you are struggling, not to get frustrated. so whatever method serves to cau

interesting! i have green eyes, and my ayurvedic practitioner says my kidneys are my trouble spot. but i've had the same eye color for as long as i can remember, does that mean i have always had this, or is it just a genetic predisposition? do people who develop kidney problems later in life develop green(er) eyes? my daughter was born with very dark brown eyes. what does that mean,in theory?

yep, its detox! isn't that exciting, your body is jettisoning some nasty crap?!? the tongue scraper helps with the tongue fuzzies. for the dragon breath, you can chew on parsley, cloves, or mint leaves; make a homemade mouthwash with water, baking soda, and 3% hydrogen peroxide; brush your mouth (teeth, tongue and gums) with baking soda and/or tea tree oil... good luck!

kim chee is ubiquitous in hawaii, people here love it, and they especially love to stir a big portion of kim chee into a bowl of piping hot noodles with lots of vegetables and consume while the sweat rolls off their foreheads.

yes, i believe if you eat raw that the cleansing will just happen naturally, over time. that said, i also believe if you are attracted to a certain cleansing protocol, if it just sort of feels like you're in the flow and not forcing anything, then maybe that is what you are supposed to do. i did a master cleanse prior to starting raw foods, and it was effortless for me, because i was totally

are you still in your first trimester, brenna? don't stress about your food intake so much. consider many women who have very healthy deliveries can't keep a lick of food down in their first trimester due to morning sickness. don't force yourself to eat. there will come a time in a few months where you will be HUNGRY, when you feel like "eating for two". many experts consider the first

putting your sprouts in a salad spinner will get rid of the hulls. i got mine at the thrift store after seeing one advertised on the sproutpeople.com website. frances is right, dehydrating, grinding, even blending and juicing oxidizes fruits and veggies and makes them less nutritious. dehydrating is the "worst" of these processes, but certainly breads and crackers and other things ma

i use spinach/kale/bok choy mostly, usually mixed with bananas or mangoes as a base. and then throw in all sorts of things from there.. parsley, cilantro, fresh ginger or turmeric, cucumbers, i started with a 60/40 ratio of fruits to greens, which results in a sweet green smoothie that will be surprisingly tasty to even most SAD eaters willing to try one! but i think i am probably more like

about 4 months raw i had a very strange acne breakout on my chest and neck that my ayurvedic practitioner diagnosed as parasites. she gave me an herbal blend that included black walnut and it cleared up really quickly. but she made sure that i kept up with the herbs for 60 days, to get the buggers at all stages of the lifecycle.

throw away your scale sandra dee! don't micromanage this process. if anything weigh yourself once a month. the way your clothes fit will tell the true story of how your body is changing... my weight fluctuates 3-4 pounds around my menstral cycle anyway. 11 pounds in 3 weeks is a pretty amazing rate, but even if that is "just" seven pounds of fat, its a lot. (a pound a week is considered

bananas are calorie dense. 3 medium bananas has the same amount of calories as a medium avocado. 1 cup of dried apricots has more calories than a medium avocado. for me its easier to consume loads of calories in smoothie form than just eating unadulterated fruit and greens, so if thats true for you, blend away! i mostly advise you to stay tuned in to your body... don't worry about starving you
