i view it like this: basically we are all a bunch of guinea pigs experimenting on ourselves! there are no modern societies that have been thriving on this diet for centuries to look to, or large groups of long term rawfoodists who have been studied. to me, that is one of the cool things about it, i really enjoy checking all of this stuff out for myself, and seeing what works for me, and dismissin

i have a friend whose daughter with terrible allergies went through an acupuncture series that really helped her. not knowing more about the situation with the 12 year old i can't say more. what is he allergic to? and how is that he can only eat raw buckwheat and cucumbers? seems unlikely that he would be allergic to all other foods, is it more problems with digestion?

i really like spiralized zucchini, but if you don't i'm sure there's a veggie noodle for you! try spiralizing everything... i do: cucumbers, jicama, sweet potatoes, carrots, daikon. i love coconut noodles too, esp with thai-style sauces. there's also raw kelp noodles, which seem totally void of taste until you put a sauce on them.

ks and rost: reading yourposts made me think about how our society interprets crying and sadness as BAD, but you're right, if you just let it happen,it doesn't feel bad, and can actually feel good. its just another part of the human experience, the "bad" comes in when we label it, or have thoughts about what it must "mean", either about us ('i'm too emotional' i'm depressed' '

i woke up and had 2 quarts of water. about 2 hours later i ate a large cherimoya. an hour or so after that i had a banana, and a green smoothie with more cherimoya, 3 bananas, a bunch of spinach, a fingerling of turmeric, some parsley, an apple, a large zucchini, and a small cucumber. throughout the course of the afternoon i snacked on two apples, two more bananas, a tangerine, and an asian pear,

re: tearing up imo this is just part of being alive, and not stuffing your feelings. if its happening to you be happy about it, so many people can't access their feelings who desperately want to! keep opening to life, don't wall off your emotional experience of it just because our culture is so cerebral. you might get labeled "sensitive"... so what? there are worse things to be. like &

aloha tea. congratulations on taking radical self responsibility for your health and well being... i am excited for you! i know you're going to experience a lot of amazing things as you travel along this path. i completely agree with arugula and lee... unless you want to be subjected to a battery of tests or have your doctors speculate aloud to you about all the deficiencies that you will enco

i found this: "A number of foods stimulate the body to produce more of the enzymes used for detoxicating the body from cancer-causing chemicals. These foods have been shown to improve liver detoxification and to decrease the risk of developing cancer. They include members of the cabbage family (crucifers), which includes not only cabbage but broccoli, cauliflower, bok choy and brussel

good for you for taking radical responsibility for your health and well being! The China Study is a compelling read, for sure. there are tons of vegetarian boards, including: there are lots of people on this board who eat some cooked foods, so if you ever feel like discussing the part of your diet that is raw vegan, i'm sure everyone here would welcome you.

if you look around at the general population, you'll see that it is quite abnormal to feel the way you do! i am acutely aware now of how grouchy people are, but also i can see it coming from a place of body discomfort and energetic depletion, so i feel distanced or unattached from it, not triggered by it (maybe that's what you mean about not getting angry easily...). i want to give everyone a hug

i taught my daughter to sign, and man did she run with it. she was making up signs and teaching them to me! and she was telling jokes before she could speak. it was hilarious. but the best part is that she could always communicate her needs and wants without frustration. have fun with that!

yay, brenna! welcome to the path! i know the feeling when you look around your house and there is fresh produce everywhere, and you feel so amazing and self-nurturing and happy and alive. i love your story of the lightning bolt, i had a similar experience when i bumped into the idea of raw foods last july. i just knew "this is what i'm supposed to do". it feels like raw foods chose

its not profitable for anyone (except maybe organic farmers!) to fund a large, long term (expensive) study on the health of raw vegans.

i explain to the waiter that i am on a special diet and i ask for a hand roll (shaped like a cone) with avo, shredded carrot, cucumber, and beansprouts, (and anything else i see on the menu that sounds like a vegetable they might have raw back in the kitchen). no rice. i bring my own little stealth bottle of nama shoyu and mix it up with wasabi, and i'm having fun!

your body takes the good fuel you are giving it and then seeks to bring itself into balance. it sets priorities, so perhaps at first it jettisoned some extra weight as part of this process, then its working on another project and weight loss seems to stall, but "progress" is still being made. i have lost about 55 lbs over the course of 8 months, but it has not been steady. i lost 35 rig

either mono fruit meal of whatever is plentiful or green smoothies mostly. when i get that "cereal" feeling, i chop up apples, asian pears, bananas, and whatever else i have on hand, toss a handful of chopped macadamia nuts in there, pour coconut water on top and sprinkle with cinnamon. yay!

amused and horrified at the same time. claire, are you feeling suicidal? eating too many fruits and vegetables is the road to ruin, you know! you could choke on all those antioxidants! just be careful, okay? promise me. step away from the celery.

"Love is what made us, it's what nourishes us, and kids are just a huge reminder of that. And there's plenty of love to be had in the world, and plenty of love you can give to yourself (I used to be a very self-punishing type), and it can be found literally anywhere! It is our birthright." bravo phantom. that's the best valentine's day message i ever read.
