Hey Elakti -- I'm still here and I'm really glad you missed me! I've been really busy this last week with some cool stuff: I've been doing more training at work than usual, I just hung my first art show, and my oldest son came out to Mass. to visit me from your neck of the woods (he's in San Marcos). This past week wasn't a good raw week (50% instead of 80%), but your threads continue to inspire

I have a little treat I make for my three year old and myself that makes me feel like I'm being really "bad" when I eat it, but it's good: I take 1/2 cup soaked almonds (which I got while they were still really raw), and make almond milk (2 cups). Then I add a few dates, a little agave, some raw cacao and a banana or two, whip them into a frenzy and freeze them in popsicle molds. Yum!!!

I categorize kombucha with miso -- what the probiotics feed on is cooked, but the probiotics themselves are raw. I have a scobe, but I'm not very faithful with it. :{

Well, shucks! I'm not giving up my daily kale smoothies for nuthin! I have fortunately never had a thyroid problem, but if I develop one, I will be loading up on the kelp, because having health problems isn't economically viable for me, and I love kale. Seriously, though, this series of threads on thyroid issues has been educational for me, because my older daughter was recently diagnosed with (I

I've been using dates lately -- about three or four in a smoothie or chocolate almond milk.

Hey Leafeater! I think you are doing well -- this is definitely a trial and error thing! I like to mix fruit with my kale in my smoothies and have one pretty much every morning consisting of: 2 cups chopped kale (or other greens, but I like kale best), 1-2T. ground flax seeds, and about three cups of whatever fruit I have in the house. I add water for consistency, and I go in that order, blendin

I think you should consider adding a little more fat to your diet, since you are nursing. I wouldn't want to jeopardize my milk supply. At least research it. Other than that, I think it looks great! Good luck.

Is this a cyber potluck? ;P I'm there!!! I love kale salad with avos, tomatoes (if they're good), anything that's growing in the garden (right now radishes, peas, beets and the kale), with a garlicky, limey, tahini miso dressing!!! Sundancer

I'm still doing a wash with 2t. baking soda and a rinse of 1/2 small lemon (waist length hair) and my hair still looks great and can go longer without a wash (3 days instead of two). I think the lemon helps get rid of the baking soda residue and it makes my hair shiny. I rinse my hair really well after the baking soda and the lemon.

I think crying spells are cleansing for the soul. I also think that what we eat not only affects our bodies; it affects our spirits. That's why people fast to get closer to God / more in touch with their inner beings. I know it to be true for me -- when I do a cleanse or eat 100% healthy, fresh raw, I start thinking more about the deep things of my soul and want to make that area of myself "

Dr. Gabriel Cousens talks about yeast in his books and says the same things: high greens and sprouts, lay off the sweet fruit for a while (yeast love sugar) and mushrooms until the yeast problem are under control. Also, a good probiotic and raw garlic are really good yeast killers. I used to have a lot of yeast, but laying off sugar and adding garlic and probiotics got rid of the problem (it's be

Congrats, Brian! I'm sure that life will give you more great gifts to help with the pain of your losses. It always comes around for good. Sometimes we have to go through some seemingly unbearable things to really learn and grow, but then the growth is real and beautiful. Good luck on your journey and your new life! Sundancer

That is a great article. I have the goal of being 100% raw because every time I have eaten 100% raw I have felt amazing! But I also feel like though this is the direction that is right for me to go, I also feel like if I go slowly in that direction, eating a less percentage cooked, healthier cooked when I do, and enjoying the journey, I will be more successful in the long run. I have a raw food b

Elakti-- YOu said: <<I want this untanglement and self awareness and freedom to satisfy the real hunger that is more than physical. Love, spirituality, self-love, the power to pursue my loftier goals...this is all tied into this raw path for me. Because un-poisoning myself seems imperative and is also very difficult. Somehow it is like the character and personality I've been is so coloure

Hey Elakti-- I totally got what you were saying. Not only did I get it, but it totally resonates with me and answers some questions that I've been asking myself, like the elimination thing. I always feel like I'm not getting rid of everything, even when I eat all raw (I'm currently at about 70% and wanting to -- needing to increase, because my body hates me when I eat cooked). I've been thinking

Hi Soroya -- I was just reading your posts for the past month and want to let you know how insightful they are. The part that talks about getting in touch with your deeper issues resonates with me. this is something I have been thinking about because I feel like when I eat raw, a cleansing process kicks in that isn't just physical, but emotional and spiritual as well; I'm kind of propelled into d

Wow Elakti, this is awesome! I need to do what you're doing. I've been thinking and reading about colonics and other cleansing methods and feel like this is my next step. I also have a problem of eating some cooked (20%) and regretting it later. I need to grow some will power. Anyway, keep it up -- you're inspiring me!!! Sundancer

You know -- every time I eat cooked my digestion gets messed up too. About the greenhouse, go on craigslist.com too. You can get good deals on a lot of stuff. But definitely check out freecycle. Also, do you have a re-store or similar used building supply store? Re-store is run by Habitat for Humanity. We have a greenhouse, but it was kind of expensive. Man, is it worth it, though! We've been har

I only eat organic and have tried to for thirty years, but I haven't always been able to 100% for various reasons (money, lack of availability). But I've always tried to have as much as possible. Sometimes it's been 30%, sometimes 100%. Over the past five years I've felt more conviction to eat 100%. The only exceptions are when I eat out or at work (a fine dining restaurant), and then I go for th

I don't know if it's sun damage or just getting older. I've been in the sun my whole life, rarely used sunblock, am Caucasian / Native American with Irish freckles and my skin is great. I have way less wrinkles than my younger sisters who swear by sunscreen. So who really knows. I just know that I need sunshine!!! Hence the name Sundancer

You can have mine!!! I've been perimenopausal for nine years (yet still managed to conceive at 43), and in the three years since I had my youngest, my periods have steadily gotten worse. I've been up and down with the raw foods thing, and since these past couple of months when I've been getting more serious about not eating SAD at all, they've (and I've) mellowed out considerably. Good point DZM! It's really encouraging to have that mindset -- that we are all raw foodists to some degree and that we cannot really fall off the wagon. I think it is important to listen to our bodies as we embark on this journey rather than beating ourselves up. My goal is to be 100% raw because my body feels great when I do so, but I'm not there yet (70-80%). But as I pay attention to which fo
