Hi Prism, I go to that site every so often, even though I'm not a Christian, because there's a lot of good thought and articles there about spiritual fasting. Thanks for reminding me about it. Folks, I made it to the end of day two and my mouth feels like it has sawdust in it. Bleh. I had pretty good energy today, but had to take a couple naps. I got up pretty early, had a full day, did a

Hi again, Well, I'm IN! I started a water fast this morning. My fasts are always great for my husband, because I tend to feed him better and more interesting meals when I'm not preoccupied with my own food and diet. Anyway, I'm hoping I can stick to the fast this time. Like you, selenes512, I sometimes run aground on day 3. I don't have to work Tuesday, and I'll make a point of resting

Oh man, the injustice and insufferable ignorance behind these laws. What goes on in the minds of judges who hand down sentences like this, especially to people who are disabled and need special care and consideration.

>am I missing something or was this thread not intended for Mocha to find out if raw fish was ok to eat? < Good point, Anaken!-- we did sort of go off on all sorts of tangents without answering his question. My husband used to go f**hing* with his dad, and it's true: all the fish he caught, whether ocean f**h or lake catch, was riddled with parasites and had to be cooked. Knowing t

Hi fabulous fasting club, I might be joining your fast soon. In the meantime, I have some ideas on whether to use acv or not. I think it's a great preparation for a fast, and also during a short fast. But most of the traditional teachings about long fasts (1 wk. or more) suggest that it's probably better to stick with plain water so that the intestines really rest completely. BUT! (and ther

I love the possibilities of this thread, having been inordinately fascinated with the meaning of Jesus and his message most of my life. I pretty much agree with the Cosmic Myth idea that Jesus was a composite of many teachers and/or a mechanism for teaching higher truths. Whether Jesus was a real person or not, his core teachings can open our hearts and give us a window on the whole topic of spir

One thing that helps me not eat fat is to add more greens-- to smoothies, and in salads. And when I eat bananas or other starchy/sugary fruit, I always follow them with celery, which stops my hunger in its tracks, balances postassium/sodium ratios, and leaves my mouth feeling like I just brushed. For some reason, if I eat bananas and don't have greens, I will still feel like eating more.

Jodi, Thanks-- I didn't know you could use honey and vinegar as a pain reliever. Cool! Hippocrates was right on.

Hey Lois, You're right, I've always been a night person. I'm not too good in the morning, till about 10am, but as the day progresses I get more and more awake. I usually go to sleep around 12:30, even when my husband starts playing meditation music CDs around 11:45pm as a broad hint that it's time to wind down and go to bed. Thomas, Pihourova and Aquadecoco, Thanks, loves. Birthday MO

Apple cider vinegar (Braggs, in particular) is really great stuff. My husband gets indigestion every once in awhile, and when he drinks a little vinegar in water the problem just disappears. He used to suffer for hours with belching and discomfort about once a month; now he just takes the vinegar. I also read somewhere that apple cide vinegar will strengthen digestion and thus lower blood pre

An interesting thing happened to me in the anger department: For many years I had part-time jobs (I'm a musician, so my jobs are always part-time side gigs) working in some pretty oppressive situations. I found myself getting very uptight and resentful, particularly in my last job, where I was frustrated beyond belief as a transcriptionist because although my work is very good, I have a bit of a

I try to hit the gym every day. Of course there are days I can't do it for one reason or another, so on those days I walk a couple miles or exercise at home. At the gym I do step machine, rowing machine, treadmill, Nautillus and sometimes some weights. I usually do the 5 rites in the stretching room before I work out. Sometimes at home I do qigong with online videos. We also walk everywhere-- ha

Only when I'm being very naughty. I really don't like the taste (the after-taste, actually) anymore. I do allow myself green chai tea in the morning (Yogi green chai-- yum!). Even one cup of joe a day makes me jittery, and when I used to drink coffee for a week or longer, I got bloated.

Bryan, I care about the commonweal, not just myself. How very 'odd.' I care about the needs of a lot of people who will never be raw foodists-- my husband included!-- and they're going to really suffer if all they have available to them is allopathic medicine. Do you really want their options limited to the 10 or 15 supplements allowed by Codex (one of which is fluoride, believe it or not), and

I can't remember when I was last sick-- it hardly ever happens. I remember when I was off raw foods for a couple years, I got colds and flu in the winter; it never happens now. I might get a headache once a year, nausea once every year or two for a few hours, usually only if I eat some tainted food.

My personal rules -- and I'm a person who works outside a lot in the spring, summer and fall -- are that I a) go slow at the beginning of the season, getting used to the sun in small doses b) get a nice glowing tan (not dark), but try to never burn c) wear a hat to shade myself if I think I'm getting too much sun d) (most importantly): eat raw and detoxify periodi

Dream earth had it right-- we need to wake up to the fact that global warming is a reality, and its effects are bearing down upon us right now. This isn't some isolated, nutty idea, like the negative planetary alignment and 'planet X' theories that pop up on the Internet; it's quantifiable and its effects are increasingly showing up all over the globe. Companies like Exxon are trying to furiously

Gabriel has been into a LOT of different things, all of which now contribute in some way to the Tree of Life experience: In the '70s and '80s he was a very dedicated disciple of Muktananda, the Indian guru who later was later revealed to have been a sexual predator who preyed upon many very young women in his ashrams. Anyway, Muktananda gave 'shaktipat'-- a supposed transference of his enlig

I speak Sharrhanese a lot of the time; thus people can't always understand what the heck I'm talking about. No, seriously-- I studied a little Spanish, then French. I wasn't very good at either of them, because I'm almost deaf in the high frequencies (but I hear normally in the rest of the frequences) so I can't hear which consonants people are saying very well. I was really comical when I was

Growing an herb garden-- or any kind of garden-- sounds like heaven. I am waiting for my public garden plot to open up for me-- I'm next on a waiting list. I think gardening and buying local is the future if we really want to a) stay real healthy and b) feel secure about the food we're eating. I'm looking into indoor gardening (I'm 18 floors up, small apt. with one really big, sunny window i
