Thanks, Dale! I saw Alan Alda drinking a beverage made with mesquite powder on one of those PBS programs, (or maybe it was National Geographic?), and he said it had a taste that reminded him of caramel corn. I can't wait to try some.

Hey Suvine, I looked at some of the photos and the accomodations look pretty nice to me! For people like us it would probably be unnecessary to go there, but for someone in Europe who is sick and doesn't have experience with raw food lifestyle, it could save their life. If I was really sick I'd probably do a lot of water fasting and juice fasting, but this is very interesting.

Wow, DP, Your diet sounds really FUN! I've been thinking of trying some mesquite powder. Can you recommend a good place online to buy it cheap? Thanks!

If I eat bananas without celery or greens afterward, my stomach still gets a little distended. Also when I had candida I had that problem.

Suncloud-- Thanks for providing us with the information. I live in a state that doesn't grow almonds, so I guess I won't be getting any more raw almonds anytime soon unless I have somebody 'black-market' them to me through the mail from California or Florida. Sheesh! I'm glad this so-called Almond Board was 'kind' enough to let organic farmers sell raw almonds locally, but yes, it sounds li

>Mercola is not a good source of information. He promotes a lot of kooky ideas, among them meat-eating. He also feels that shoe size is related to health.< Hey, if I find a treasure in a wastebasket, I'll take it-- know what I mean? Mercola believes in eating meat and vegetables-- classic Paleo diet. I don't, not at all. But that doesn't mean I don't trust the articles he publishes in

I think there's a transitional period at the beginning of the raw food journey, where one weans oneself away from the nutrient-based approach and gravitates to the life force approach, while cleansing and purfiying the body so that it can assimilate the life force; and that can take a little time and a lot of wisdom. I'm guessing it can take anywhere from 2-10 years, depending on many factors to

I cut up broccoli into smaller pieces-- including some of the stalks-- and put it in the food processor with a half-tsp. of smoked sesame oil and whatever else I have on hand that makes sense, and it's wonderful.

I usually have a fruit smoothie w/greens in the morning-- I'm not too hungry then but I definitely enjoy it. Lunch is usually fruit and celery. About twice a week I have a Synergy kombucha drink or a Lara bar mid-afternoon. (I'm trying to wean myself off the Laras.) I start getting pretty hungry in the late afternoon, after going to the gym and doing errands. At that point I'll have a m

Hi Meow, In an ideal world, yes. . . . ;-p . . . but some of us live in places that are outrageously expensive even when we try to find co-ops and farmer's markets. My local co-op is as expensive as a convenience store! And farmer's markets are only available 4 mo. out of the year, and they are quite high in price, as well. We're all workin' on it. I run hither and yon, to Whole Foods

Aquadecoco-- Beautiful synopsis! Sorry you went through all of that (I did too). Everything you say resonates perfectly with what I've learned. Are you familiar with Redirecting Self-Therapy? I used it to detoxify (it took about 3 months) from my huge reservoir of anxiety and depression several years ago, and it was very powerful and incredibly healing. Alice Miller's works are great and could

Fuzzysox, Hey, I know it's tough, but hang in there and don't give up. We're here to support you. I know it's hard (been there with my folks), but you will be out on your own before you know it. I went through similar things with a very unsupportive family when I was growing up. If you can find a friend or mentor you really trust and feel comfortable with, I think that might help a lot. Feel

EarthAngel-- I moved from Indiana to Tucson, AZ when I was about 12, and I've been in my current location (Cambridge, MA) for almost 30 years. Well, in all honesty, I don't miss Indiana exactly, but I have fond memories and Hoosiers have a special place in my heart.

I love all the days equally now that I don't work a regular Mon thru Fri work-week. (I play music here and there, and I work weekends.) Earthangel-Hoosier-girl-- Where did you grow up in Indiana? I was born in Indianapolis; grew up in South Bend. My grandparents had farms in Burket and Warsaw, little tiny country towns surrounded by corn, alfalfa, lots of cows.

I don't want to get into the argument about who is right, but I just want to say that I am in support of djatchi continuing to be on this list, because I believe we are only as strong as our ability to have a civil conversation with someone who doesn't happen to agree with our particular philosophy.

Hi Lina-Marie, I'm not sure how to address the bulimia itself, but I have some ideas about how to deal with hunger in general. Sweet fruits like mango and banana, followed by some greens or celery, can be incredibly satisfying and will help you not to crave cooked food. The fruit will fill you up, especially if you follow it with some greens, which will keep your sodium/potassium in balance, w

I haven't had an broccoli sprouts lately, but I've been making lentil sprouts a lot lately. They're great when I'm a little extra hungry-- very satisfying. Plus they're super-easy to sprout, and I can build a whole salad around them.

Hi Prem, How wonderful to read your message! I love Sri Aurobindo, so Auroville has a special place in my heart. I resonate with much of what you say, and you have inspired me to remember to do the water fast I was planning to do this weekend. I have tried urine fasting in the past; not sure if I will do it again or not. But I basically agree with you that our bodies seem to naturally want to

Hey guys, If you're getting chunky smoothies, are you putting the greens into the smoothie as the last step, in small pieces, one at a time, so that they get blended thoroughly? I have a 'coomon' (read cheap!!) Oster blender and I get great smoothies this way.

Hi La V, Yes, I got an e-mail from a Codex group last night-- I posted it on the 'health-related off-topic' forum here. Basically, the senators passed the bill unamended, so that Big Pharma gets a lot stronger and alternatives are much more vulnerable. No protection for DSHEA, paving the way for Codex harmonization. Sadly, they don't care at all, apparently, that they're ripping off the publ

Hey F1, Sorry if it sounded like I was criticizing you. I admit my first impression upon reading your response to Fud was that you were being hard on him, (so then I was hard on you!!) but maybe I read too much into it. You are a valued member of this forum, and definitely a GOOD guy. ;-) Warm regards,
