>Did you get your name from the response by the Korean monk Seung Sahn?< Hi Troy, I really enjoy reading your stories and experiences-- somehow just reading about your temple life is calming. No, my name is just one I thought up for this forum (my 'regular' name is Sharrhan, which means refuge & sustenance-- I gave myself that name in 1978, and it's a Hindi name). I'm intrigued

Right now I'm working on my Street Performer Monitor reports; two are done and I've got one to go. I monitor street performers in Harvard Square, Cambridge (mostly a positive thing where I make sure they're happy and not being drowned out by other, louder people, or harassed by store owners, etc.), and on Tuesday nights I have to write up my work reports and e-mail them to the Arts Council.

>"If they nix supplements and keep big pharma pumping... I see NO hyprocricy"< Wha??????? =:-O Bye bye supplements and no more herbs at my local co-op. Somehow I'm not okay with that.

Might want to take a look at the documentary "The Future of Food"-- I put it on the 'Other Topics-- Health Related" forum here. It explains a lot of what's going on with the forces that are devolutionizing (new term?) our food supply.

I know a lot of raw foodists are opposed to herbs, and think that there is no need ever for anything other than food and maybe fasting, but I think if we grew herbs and harvested them ourselves and used them in moderation with our food, much the way the Taoists did, maybe we would actually be much healthier. Maybe!-- I don't know! But then these characters come along and make a big business out o

Ha! Strange logic, huh?! And anyway, since when do raw foodists quote Time magazine for their health information? Today they're taking our herbs away-- that's okay with some because 'herbs are not good for you.' How about when they take away our fresh, raw food? By the time people get their heads out of the clouds and make the connections, it may well be too late. Thanks, Lois. ;-)

I have some thoughts about this: 1) Time Magazine is a mainstream news propaganda magazine. This is part of the allopathic medicine con: criticize herbs, supplements, vitamins and minerals, and maybe no one will notice how many hundreds of thousands of people are dying because of pharmaceuticals and medical interventions. Haven't you noticed how the FDA is fast-tracking new drugs through the

Aragula, >I have problems with some FDA decisions but one aspect that I do like is that they go after violators when they find out about them.< Just an observation-- Seems like they are quick to go after alternative violators, but very slow to go after pharmaceutical violators.

Hi sunshine79-- It's in Massachusetts, one of the Boston Harbor Islands called Lovells. Jonathan and I camp out there, usually twice every summer (2 wk. July/2 wk. Aug) and we love the rabbits. Unfortunately, there aren't as many of them now as there were when we started camping in 1992. I think the park service has deliberately poisoned them in order to save the tree roots they eat, but that'

Right! The CAM thing is a smoke-screen to divert our attention from the bill that's set to come up in the house, S. 1082. We need to write to our House Reps and also the people in the Dietary Supplement Caucus. Here are their names and fax numbers. Below is a letter to send to the Caucus members, and you can use the basic ideas in the letter for your e-mails to your Representatives in the Ho

IAHF News Flash rec'd today. Among the important things I took away from this message is the vital piece of information that writing to FDA is useless; we should be writing to Congress. Reminds me of the island where I camp every summer-- it's loaded with BUNNIES that look just like this one! Someone dropped off a couple of domesticated rabbits on the island many years back, and they just started multiplying.

Jodi! Just read this thread and encountered your story for the first time tonight. Wow, you are amazing. ;-D Now I even admire you more than I already did before! I love to meet survivors like you and Earth Angel, because so often those who have been through a lot of pain have massive compassion, lovingkindness, humor and wisdom.

Hi there, Miss Joan, My favorite smoothie is made with 1 orange, some frozen mango puree or some fresh mango, 3-4 ice cubes, maybe 1/2 banana or a few wild blueberries, and approx. 2 C of spinach, collards, kale or anything dark green that's edible :-p Actually, I haven't made the mesquite drink yet. I'm thinking of just putting a little of the mesquite powder in a smoothie with pineapple or

Sorry, couldn't resist using a silly ploy to get your attention. ;-p Okay, now that I have it, here's an article on irradiated mangos coming into the U.S. from India. I'm guessing they're those sickly looking bright yellow mangos I'm started seeing at local grocery stores lately:

Starfruit-- >some eggplant w/tomatoe sauce and cashew sour cream< Oh my, that sounds really delicious. Do you dehydrate the eggplant first, and was the tomato sauce made from blended sundried tomatoes? (Just curious.) I read a recipe in LivingNutrition Magazine for 'pizza' that had dehydrated eggplant as a base. I haven't eaten this way in a long time, but some day when I really feel l

Hi Troy, I've been lurking all too long here in your diary-- time for a greeting. I'm really entranced, reading about your experiences in the Buddhist temple, because my husband and I are. . . hmm, I guess you'd say we're Zen Taoists (? ;-p) of a sort, and I've always fancied what it would be like for us to live in a spiritual community such as yours. We have a small Korean Zen (Seon Buddhist, n

I think the crystal contains aluminum, so I avoid it. I looked at the ingredients once, and it was alumini-something-or-other, and that made me suspicious that it was just as harmful as regular deoderant. Anybody know?
