alright. it's been nearly a week. I've been pretty well raw, about 80%--like thanksgiving. the thing is, every time I'm tempted, I eat another apple or a bowl of romaine and by the end of the day, I'm so stuffed. I don't like eating so constanty. But it's keeping me out of trouble I suppose. mashed sweet potatoes with maple syrup were hard to pass up... I'm leaving for costa rica on the

alright then. tomorrow morning, I head to my folks. for two weeks. I shouldn't, but I have anxiety about this. I haven't spent this much time at home since going raw...or actually,,,for years. over thanksgiving, I ate about 80% (I'm usually 95-99+). When I got back to NY, and was raw again, I was sweating and sticky and yuck for a day or two. I'm not looking for advice, so much as supp

my parents didn't do santa. I went to Kindergarten and "found out" about santa--i.e. learned he exists! oh, but then I came home and my father expalined how impossible is was for a man to fly around the world with gifts for all the children slip down chimeys etc. Instead, like Dave was saying, my parents were and still are very playful and sarcastic (not rudely--comicly). It taugh

oh dear. that sounds very "holier-than-thou-because-I-told-the-truth-about-my-lying" I don't mean it so grandly. I'm voicing my faults. eek. sorry if you feel offended. I don't know...

I think that something is going unsaid here, talking about lying in terms of an abstract action that others' engage in. so let me say this: I have lied to: my parents, brothers, friends, partners, teachers, grandparents, strangers, children, competitors, my journal, employers, neighbors... I've done it to: protect myself/others, hurt people, confuse people, play, get away with things, ma

haha, Ilovejen, that is too funny. I was reading your post and I thought someone was quoting me. hahaha. it makes me feel bad that my dad didn't want the fresh fruit/I took it from him. But he was going to toss it, and I was pretty hungry. even on my train home next week, I plan on having at least a pound or two of something to crunch on.

on a flight to costa last year, I brought raisins, prunes, carrots and 2 apples in a big gallon size ziplock. gone before the seatbelt light went off. I ate the banana that came with lunch. my dad's banana. the banana of the person sitting with us. then the flight attendent brought me another banana. I never manage to bring enough to eat on the plane. I get so hungry when I fly...strange..

somehow I think that getting my heart rate up and the deep heavy breathing--really sucking on the oxygen--can't be replaced. I have no evidence to back it up, but it's feeling I get from nothing else. I understand what your saying with the 5x5 doing the conditioning that cardio does though. I give it a try and see if I'm not dying for a good session on the bike. I've been lifting weight sin

thanks. I alternate arms+back/upper body against legs/butt. I do abs on both days, but focus on hard training my abs on that days I do my back (whereas I do planks and core/balance poses on the leg days). I really love cardio. At the gym, I'm less inclined to overdo it. But when I'm visiting my parents in the woods and can run....I'd go twice a day if my folks didn't want to see me so

workout man-- what about lifting everyday/alternating muscle groups? I've been limiting cardio to every other day. like I said before, it's hard for me to lift anything so so heavy, because my tendons and hands give out beofre my muscles. ha. thanks

thanks karen and coco. I'm not wure I want to slow down my metabolism to gain weight though. I'd rather gain it by building with great food. I also couldn't possibly only eat two meals a day--least not yet. I love that I can just grab fruit anywhere anytime. I'd be exercising too much will over my impulses to be happy at this point. it's an interesting suggestion, thanks for helping.

when I went raw overnight--it was march in new england. I would fill my nalgene with boiling water and wrap it in a towel to sleep with near my feet. BIG HELP. Now my hands and feet are fine...though I do get the chills a little after bigger meals.

thanks tanawana! that kind of break down is exactly what I needed. I do well with clear cut figures and explanations. bracken. I used to teach 1-3rd grade art...in Oregon. but here in NY (and New England in genereal) I need a masters, which I'll be finished with in july. in the meantime, I had elementary students this fall. In the spring I'll be teaching photography in an arts-specific

I don't know if either of us knows better... I'd like to do lower reps with higher weight as you suggest. I worry about the stress on my joints and tendons though, even though it seems my muscles can handle it. I have trouble with the real heavy weights--especially the ones I use for my back and legs--because my hands get too weak to hold them, well before I exhaust the muscles groups I'm is

wow Ju! I feel like these paintings are so inclusive/embracing. The forms and folds make the work quite easy to find yourself inside of. Have you seen the illustrations of Byrd Baylor? She doesn't look like you, but the wrapping and circling and almost womb-like theme is there. she's easy to google-image search. I love her. she works with the author Peter Parnall...together, their st

hey. I'm here. I'm great. I was working on my the final touches of my thesiis proposal the last few days. I'll go check that out... haven't had as much time/focus in the gym lately, and I found I'm very close to being broke. SO. I've been eating a little haphazardly...more attention to price and less on my cravings/needs. I just need to refocus on a new budjet, so I can get my goals bac

1985 my goodness, I was 2. always always I've craved carrots and brocolli totally plain and raw. Long beore I went raw, a friend said "a sale on brocolli to you is like a sale on hagen Daaz for me." I felt it was time to just focus. I'd left a bad relationship (and tons of baking to make up for it) on the other side of the country. I knew about raw, (was veg'n for 6-7 years, a

black tongue? I dont' know what that is... fruit--I get that ache from too much of certain fruits (for me: seedless watermelon & grapes). I'm not going to tell you to eat any certain fruits to quell your appetite, since you say you have willpower/controling thoughts around foods. But from what you've written, it sounds like you're already better than you were. So I say, keep fo

I use Hemp Protein as well also EFA, a multi, and calcium. it might be a mental thing, but it keeps me on raw. good luck! flex, how much of the hemp powder do you use every day? I'm trying to build muscle and I use two servings--each contains 11g of protein (am and pm). what do you think of: 22g for the day, the rest fruit and watery veggies (celery, lettuce, cukes)?

when celery is on sale I can eat two large bunches in a day. I don't eat it with anything, and it digests pretty quickly. It stimulates my appetite, and I never feel bloated or water-logged from the sodium. In fact, celery is great for cleaning me out... Something makes me think the sodium RDA could be based on NaCl which is different from the sodium found naturally in plants.

going back to what he suggested about fruit and sleep-- yesterday I didn't eat any fruit. I was studying all day, didn't get to the farmer's market, just ate carrots, pumpkin seeds, lettuce mostly. I didn't do anything physical, so I just wasn't craving the sugar or something. ANYWAYS>>> I couldn't fall asleep. my mind was still churning through it's thoughts. I think I must h

I love them. I eat the seeds. (not sure how you couldn't) I don't know much about them... I don't eat the skin. reminds me of kiwis+watermelon. I find them to be sweet. I judge their ripeness like most fruits...a little pressure yeilds a bruise. maybe you just don't like them. I don't really like bananas.

I did not mean that F1's comments were not valid. I agree that one should not use food to solve their problems. But I took it to heart, and felt that bracken and I (don't mean to speak for, or lump us together...) were being seen as doing so. In fact, I value F1's opinion quite a bit, and have asked for it recently. I admire his successes and others', and that's why I post. To learn what oth

thank you cocoa nibs. I was feeling bad about my newly pointed out "insecurities" and thinking, jeez maybe I AM insecure. But I'm more confident than ever, and experiencing improvements only furtherrs that. I dont want to think of myself "using food to solve" but what's the problem with "using food to heal and strengthen?" isn't that what we're all here for? It

thanks mocha! bracken- I'm 24. I don't mind the question. but I get asked out by boys in high shool. I was at the supermarket once, and someone asked me where my mother was...I guess I WAS wearing a baggy hooded sweatshirt, but come on people! I have breasts! I used to work with weights every other day, just doing the full curcuit. But now I work out every day, Arms and back one day,

it's 12:30 pm. I just finished my bedtime head-of-lettuce and am off to my pillow for some dreams. I refuse to get upset with myself about eating at night. I know I shouldn't do it. But it keeps things moving on the inside, and helps me slow down. maybe this will help you? switch your food choices to dry greens at night. just, be ready to BE REGULAR (you know what I mean?)
