thanks mocha. coco-I could do that. But when I get a bunch, I guess I figure i'd like to eat it as the main ingredient--since there's so much. I have trouble only using some of something...I'm all or nothing I guess.

How do you eat them? I find them much too bitter to deal with. I was thinking of marinating/kneading them the way I do kale: with lemon juice garlic etc. any other suggestions? thanks!

that's interesting. I've been craving it a lot lately. I'm very high raw (I take viatmins and drink tea). I have ignored the desire for it, thinking it would make me feel the way cooked food generally does--which is blah/lame-o. I might try it--perhaps into a recipe for thanksgiving.

Dave I won't have my phone with me there. But if you're in Nosara between the 5th and 12th, it's a small town. I've got a blue and yellow surfboard, and I look like my pic here (obviously).

I agree with dvdai that quitting caffeine was harder than going raw. I did it cold turkey. at first, I still loved the smell of coffee. But now it bothers me. at least you're not trying to quit smoking! (I'm watching my dear dear little brother try desperately and unsuccessfully at that)

I've mono-ed on apples once a month for four months now. I look forward to it! and I'd do it longer than 3-6 days, except that I don't want to damage myself without a range of nutrients. Greens sometimes look so good to me, and other times I can't imagine putting them in my mouth. I used to eat brocolli like a lunatic, and since being raw, it makes me a little ill to imagine eating it again

My father has said forever: "I forgive you, stomach" when he feels he's overeaten. I eat carrots when I feel like I need to keep eating. 1. they're delicious 2. I can't eat so many, or I get the carrot-stomach-ache-blues 3. The crunching sates my need for an oral fix Don't beat yourself up over nuts. When I began, I'd get into the SOAKED nuts at night, and still wake up l

103. Re: Beets
they're sugary for a vegetable. but less sugar per gram than carrots. also, what's the problem with natural sugars? I think they're nice, actually. I like to cut them up and eat beet sticks. (magenta fingers!) They parch my mouth though.

When I worked in a vegan/raw kitchen, we only soaked our flax and pumpkin seeds for 30 min, brazil nuts and almonds about an hour. Cashews and sunflower seeds seem to me to soak REALLY fast. So start 'em, brush your hair, call a friend, prepare something else, and they'll be done.

yes. You make it as you would with the big flat white culture. The little one will grow to cover the tea. Then once you have that one, you can use IT to make more. The old one will fall down and a new one will grow. have fun!

I've wondered about this regarding myself. but if being obsessed with a "clean" diet is the symptom, and the result is clean health, then I don't mind the label. when I go home to visit my folks, my dad always comments about how he'd like to "eat more like Shaina....Shaina wouldn't eat this junk." (someday he'll put it into action.)

you can get the culture from a store bought bottle of kombucha--GT's usually has a nice visible one: don't shake the bottle. Just drink it (yum!) and get the little guy out of there at the end.

I'm going to Costa at the beginning of January. I was there when I first went raw, late last winter, and was pretty amazed at the measly looking produce in the mercado. I wonder if, now that I've been raw much longer, those lame looking items will be any more appealing. Last year I ate a lot of the raw nuts and dried fruits I had packed. But, I hardly ever eat those things anymore...(only

I've read that figs are fairly close to a neutral pH--of all the fruits. You may be more aware of these numbers than I am, but if you need a little sweet sometimes...

I have done mono eating on apples for a few days to a week. The first time, I mixed varieties, and asked about it here. Some advice I got was to keep it to one variety. By the end of the week, my digestion was very quick from swallowing to -you know- and very clean on the other end (yikes! sorry!). I found that apples were wonderful for me, I felt the fiber was the right amount for me--an

at first I wanted mostly grains and sprouts and greens, with lots of spices and onion/garlic. I lost a dramatic amount of weight--from around 115lb, to 100 in 2 months. Since then, I have been eating mainly fruits with lettuce and carrots added in, along with raw hemp. I'd say though, that 80-90% of my kcals come from fruit. I have lost about 5 more pounds since then (5-6 mos.), and am no

you should audition for cique de soleil since March-- I went from 20 to about 35 pushups at once bicep curls: 12.5-17 planks: ~1 min - 2min+ situps: 20ish - endless (various forms)...no idea how to make this harder half of me wants to attribute it to being raw, but I still have that other half saying, "no, you're just more steady and focused in all aspects of life as you mature.&qu

I found dried blueberries at this middle-eastern market real close to where I live. I also had them in LA at a natural food store in Los Feliz. As far as super-nutrient rich foods go, I have experienced a real sense of what exactly is the most useful to my body/system at the moment--I craved onions and garlic big time at first. Then sea-vegetables, then melons all summer. Now I'm so infat

I had a terrible sense of smell, but now it's excellent. I work with kids, student teaching, and they smell like all sorts of bizzare things. I can pinpoint what each one might have had for breakfast. the durian thing happens to me, but it only lasts a few days. I used to eat tons of raw brocolli before I was raw...my old roomate once said "a sale on brocolli to you is like a sale

the problem is not raw foods. it's standardized testing. maybe it's that youre more tuned into what interests you. the psats are not interesting. dont throw out your ground flax...but it's cheaper and better to buy it whole once that batch is gone, and grind it yourself.

ferdiewen I drink tea...a lot every day, even through the summer. I believe it's part of 'how I am raw.' this is not a perfect science, and I use herbal teas that have benefits of their own. So I don't consider it a vice, when it's healthful and soothing. I mean, doesn't being raw make us all feel beautiful and clean and energized? So what's the different between using raw foods for physi

yes yes ! I stopped wearing underwear awhile ago. I sleep naked everynight. (I used to sleep in my street clothes...not even pajamas...in fact, I don't own pjs!) jeans, even well fitting ones, are the worst. too much drapey-ness makes me nuts. I'm very sensitive to things in my hair--I used to always wear it all up, but barrettes and elastics and headbands are tough. I have these stone r
