think about a small young apple, barely formed--compared to a large ripe apple weighing close to a pound! do you think these have the same calorie/nutrition content?

I am a student, getting my Master's in Art Education. so next year, I'll be an art teacher somewhere in New England. The best job I've ever had was working on the outer Cape as a surf instructor.

I have stretch marks from growing fast when I was in junior high. They have faded over the years, but not noticably since going raw (7-8 months ago). I think time is more of a healing factor there. pampam--I can't afford to drink wheatgrass, nevermind bathe in it! haha

this used to happen to me with watermelons first thing in the morning. Now I do oil pulling upon waking--so I'm less inclined to dive in without thoughtfulness. A friend told me that the seedless varieties may be doing it--because their sugar has been altered. I used to believe that it was good to eat first thing in the morning, to get things moving. But now I'm doing much better by oil

I ate a lot of cacao nibs early on. But I eventually stopped caring about chocolate. I say get some raw chocolate. who cares if it goes against some peoples' raw ideal--if it keeps you from quitting raw altogether, it would be a GOOD thing ay?

I've been doing it for a week and a half. I use sunflower oil, but sesame is supposed to be really good for your skin. I haven't noticed any of the benefits yet. But, it doesn't help me slow down a little in the morning. I would normally rush to drink as much water as I can, eat something, dress, gather my books and rush off the the subway. When I do the oil pulling, I find I am more thought

What is happening--when I bite into an apple sometimes, and there are these dappled pockets of clear areas in the fruit? do you know what I'm speaking of? They are still crunchy; it isn't a bruise, and they seem to taste alright. Just the whiteness is gone from them.

I used to live with a guy, who went veggie when we moved in together, (he swore it wasn't a compromise, it was an improvement). With me in the kitchen, he was nearly vegan. And without either of us trying to be, we were close to 80% raw. When I left in December, he stayed veggie except when he would see his parents every few months. Then he was seeing a girl who was not veggie, so he slipped

hey I'm in NYC. kate--and rawee--I'm doing my practicum at PS 321 in Park Slope, do i know your kids? I live in the Murray Hill area. I'd love to do that Pure Food and Wine date again...not much cash for eating out lately, but this could make up for all the times I DIDN'T go, or DIDN'T order with my friends. There's Bonobo's on 23 and Lex. I haven't been there, but I heard from a me

If you look for the nutrition facts of watermelon seeds through a search, you'll find that it has a lot of fiber, protein, and considerable fat content--very similar to the makeup of most nuts and seeds. I used to buy licorice watermelon seeds from a chinese market in Portland OR. so much chewing. thanks for the cyanide flag on those apple seeds....I've been eating the whole apple when I don

ambaryarena--that's funny, I was monoing apples since Monday too! I did this for about 8 or 9 days at the beginning of September too. And now that I'm thinking of it, I did a cleanse at the beggining of August...I wonder if I'm doing these hyper-clean 'vacations' right as I'm about to get my period (which is back after a 3-4 month hiatus, I might add). I, like Lee_123, did it partly to save mo

I had one a few weeks ago and loved it to death. I ate half that night, and the rest in the morning. But immediately afterward, the smell and aftertaste made me a little ill. I bought one again this past weekend--a friend was in town, and he NEEDED to try it. I ate about a see and a half and loved it again. Then, neither of us could even stand the thought of having it in the fridge. I d

I have felt very aware/awake on raw. but now, I'm noticing more immediately when a situation, or certain company is giving me negative feelings. I tend to think that being raw doesn't necessarily leave you elated, but rather, more in tune with your reactions and perceptions.

friends have given me raw chocolate--I don't buy it because of the cost. oh yes. and it's terrible. it never melts into your tongue--just gets chewed up and tastes like eating wax. cacao nibs taste good to me. nutty and intensely cocoa. not sweet, but still satisfying. If you're dying for chocolate, and more prepared/processed raw foods are okay to you (not passing judgement...just clarifyi

I've been raw for 6-7 months now. I stopped menstruating about 4 months into it, then got it again last month. It was brief and painless. If I get it on time this month, I should have PMS right now--I wonder if I'm just tired and under pressure, or if I really am feeling the symptoms. Either way, I have been craving bananas madly, and I'm normally not so into them. Other than that--dandelion

(my name is shaina too!) I think you'll get more sensitive to certain combinations the longer you're raw. At first, I ate so much onion and garlic, and now the strength is too much. also, I ate tomatoes constantly and with everything. Now I can really only eat them by themselves--same with grapes. Melons are tough for me--but I can't resist! Someone told me it had to do with metabolizing

hey. I lived in LA for a few months this summer. "Cru" in Sunset Junction (Silverlake area) was very good, and not too expensive. Their icecream is deadly excellent (don't bother with the brownie sundae, I'd get three scoops of three different flavors.) The Hollywood farmer's market on Sunday morning is fantastic--so big, so many sellers, so many SAMPLES. that was my breakfas

I'm nearly 100% raw, and last night, I had several vivid vivid dreams. the last one was full of anger (toward my brother, whom I am incredibly close to), which was upsetting, but vivid nonetheless. I hadn't dreamed as memorably as I used to, since I went raw early this spring. But this week, I began taking a multivitamin, and a vegetarian EFA (essential fatty acid) capsule. I was concerned ab

la veronique-- the quote is from my favorite book/author "in watermelon sugar"/by richard brautigan love-- There was a girl, who was the daughter of the owner. She was vegan with a good amount of raw. She had been raised vegan since birth. She was fairly shy, but always so kind The guy I'm thinking of was just plain vegan, but rode his bike everywhere. Always helpful, never

I worked at the Blossoming Lotus in Portland Oregon for a little while (vegan + raw options restaurant). Great People. But half of them were overweight. And only two or three were the glowing toned image I'd have expected of the lifestyle. we made raw fudge, raw pies, raw iceKream, raw cookies, nut pates, oily guac, etc. If I were living on those foods? Add in the sugar of some mango and pi

I don't know who to begin this to/ but/ Bryan, I'm surprised at your terse sarcasm toward Sunshine. maybe there's something going on there that I'm not privy to. Sunshine79, I have friends who dumpster dive out of principle (not cash flow). I learned from a former employee of Wild Oats, that they do not even let their workers take home the dented cans and overripe produce. There is wo

raw nuts in bulk may look expensive at 8-15 dollars a pound, but if you compare calories per dollar on nuts vs. other produce--they're fairly cheap.

hey. I spent three months living in LA (may-june-july). and I went to the hollywood farmer's market every sunday. I was able to purchase (most of) what I needed for the week, for around 20-30 dollars. granted, I didn't ask each farmer whether his produce was organic. But I would have to say, that's close to what I spent per week as an undergrad--living on tuna, skippy super-chunky, and canne

speak up! I worked at a vegan/raw restaurant (Blossoming Lotus--very cool people) for a few months in Oregon. The dehydrators were set at 115--and did the job without compromising anyone's faith that the food coming out was still raw. I know you just got hired, but maybe just question it politely? then, if they don't change, stand up for a change. if they're raw themselves, they should get

I'm glad(?) to hear that I'm not the only one who suffered on the pill. I had all the same frantic depressive emotions that you have described. I knew it was the pill, but the guy in my life at the time said it couldn't be, and I don't have any girlfriends close enough to ask. (he's gone...ahem.) I stopped taking it when I left him, and regained my poise. If I were in a long relationship a
