Hi. I have exactly $41.70 (US) to spend on a dehydrator. What's the best brand & model I can get for that amount? Note: I don't mind buying used on ebay, as long as the dern thing's a-workin'.

4. kimchi
I've searched the internet & keep coming up with recipes that have sugar added. But whenever I buy kimchi packaged at the store, it doesn't have sugar. So my question is... is sugar added to homemade recipes because the proper kimchi-ware (earthenware pots or stainless steel, air-tight containers) are lacked? Or is this just a coincidence? I really want to make my own kimchi, but I don't wa

Where do you get it, & how do you make it sweet? Have you ever found it in stores, or do you have to order it online? Is agave suitable as a sweetener, or does it taste like a strange combo? I crave chocolate (about once a month, ahem...), & also would like to have some during the holidays. Thanks! -Wren

Once again, fabulous responses, advice, & lots of love from all! Thank you so much! I'm going to keep all of this in mind! And Diamond Dave... love the quote! So true! That's one that has to be written down in my personal journal. Thanks.

WOW! Y'all are GREAT! I love you! These are awesome responses. I just took a huge breath of relief! I admit, I AM quite the perfectionist (not just about eating habits either), & tend to get hard on myself for not being pure right away. Two years of adjusting sounds good to me. And yes, I'm sure I do eat out of comfort & such... I've dealt with an eating disorder for much of my lif

HELP! I'm tempted to give up, but I really don't want to. It's ridiculous though... I'm running out of food to eat after two or three days! I just can't afford this. I live in North Carolina, & there was a terrible drought this year, so farmer's markets don't have much (not that they really sport much of anything organic anyway). I can't grow my own food at this time. And I'm buying organic

"how could you eat more cheaply cooked vegan? ?" Answer: I get filled up faster & from less food. Btw, I tried sending you another pm, but your inbox is full apparently. Didn't know if you were aware of that. I'll repost my concern about raw food & $ in the main section, as you suggest. Thanks!

HELP! I'm tempted to give up, but I really don't want to. It's ridiculous though... I'm running out of food to eat after two or three days! I just can't afford this. Plus, I'm constantly hungry. I'm trying to eat as much fresh, raw food as possible, & I'm including dark green leafy veggies, home-made sprouts, seaweed, fresh fruits, etc. If I do wind up eating cooked foods, I'll make sur

Gosh, raw fooding is soooo expensive! I have about $275 in food stamps a month for myself & my son together, so I can spend $65-70. a week on our food combined. Not much... & it seems like I run out of food so quickly! But I'm still going to keep doing this as long & as much as I can.

Hey there! I'm pretty new to all this, & I'm only going to state what my intuition has told me so far... & that is: Don't eat raw for weight loss or you'll fall off the wagon. I've dealt with compulsive overeating for many years, & I'm not going to berate myself if I eat a whole lotta food. But I have noticed myself eating less anyway (since processed & cooked foods happen to b

Hey y'all. I haven't dropped off the face of the planet or even fallen off the raw food wagon, lol! I've been, on average, 90% raw for the past two weeks since I started on this. And holy cow... I've lost almost ten pounds during that time! No hardcore exercise in there to speak of... just the usual walking & trying to keep up with my toddler all day long. But not much. I just made my

I've got a diary here too, but it seems like this one is really hoppin', so think I'll post some thoughts here. I, too, have an ED, though not a very popular one: compulsive overeating/addiction to food. I've only been raw for a week, but don't really notice much of a change in the fact that I want to eat. Ultimately, it's not about the food. It's about hiding from life. Anyway, hello all!

Is there a list for raw vegans somewhere online that shows which fruits, veggies, etc. have what amount of carbs, protein, & fats? Yeah, I probably let myself get too tired, but the computer has become such an addiction for me lately... it's hard to tear myself away. It's funny, because I proudly tell ppl that I haven't watched any tv at all for seven years. But how is the computer bette

Man, this is tough! I'm finding myself so tempted by smells & the look of cooked food & such... & I can't get rid of it where I live bc it's not my house. What does 811 raw mean? Oh yeah... & how do you keep from eating after dark? I always get either super hungry or super bored...

Right, I understand that it's not fresh or even completely raw, but "is it akin to dehydrating?" is what I'm asking... Thanks.

I went to both pages, thank you for posting them! As far as the energy, I've been pretty much following all of what she suggests. But as far as the 15 tips, some of those I could use. Again, the missing pieces to success seem to come down to the fact that I have no way of juicing. Hopefully, that will change soon. I agree that a colonic would help hugely. Now if only I could find someone

I've eaten mostly raw today, but I feel like cr@p. Is this like when you fast & feel terrible during the first three or four days, but then feel great? (From what I've heard anyway... I've only been able to make to three & a half days before.) Am I going to feel more energy after a few more days of being raw?... because this really sucks! I feel like a big block of lead, & I'm sup

This is medicinal, yummy stuff... dunno if any here have tried it before, but here's the recipe (everything is raw & organic, of course); apple cider vinegar garlic ginger lemon honey (leave out if strict vegan) cayenne horseradish any extra hot peppers you want to add Dice garlic, ginger, & horseradish really small. Add these & juice of lemon, honey, & cayenne to vi

Ah, I'd forgotten about sauerkraut & kimchi! Good idea, thank you! I've never been one for coleslaw though. I can't wait to get a dehydrator. Maybe I'll ask for one for my b-day... although that's five months away, & I'm anxious to really get going on this.

I saw a clip on youtube about raw last night, plus just saw before & after pics of other ppl on this site, & I'm now VERY serious about this raw thing. Something seems to have clicked. I really like the quote of a poster that says "Nothing tastes as good as health feels." (which sounds like a POSITIVE spin on "Nothing tastes as good as thin feels"... a quote that r

Yeah... you know, I "screwed up" a few times today... i.e., gave into the fact that there's more cooked & processed food in this house than raw... & now I feel heavy again. So I'm about ready to take the $22 I just made for watching my parents' house for them while they were gone to spend on some piece of equipment for making juices. I'm tired of relying on salad dressing, avo

Awesome thoughts... I concur! Aha, a fellow dumpster diver! Been houseless before (during the direct action years), & so did that out of necessity then. But you'll still find me, feet up in a sweet compost bin or dumpster behind a health food store & the like!

My son likes raw foods, but some he isn't able to bite into and/or chew on. He's 18 months old & has twelve teeth so far. (Speaking of which, he does like to teeth on a whole, cold, raw carrot.) I don't have any sort of machine to make veggies & fruits into juices for us either. He just loves avocadoes, bananas, apples, lemon wedges, raw nori seaweed (isn't it good though? mmmmm).

What you wrote sounds great, but I'm concerned about my issues with low blood sugar attacks. I've always been led to believe that I need extra protein to avoid these. Is that just a myth?
