Horsea, another possible cause of the cramps after the sesame seeds: not enough magensium compared to calcium. I used to get cramps after drinking milk. My parents had no idea and blamed it on growth. Now I know it was the high calcium combined with lack of magnesium. Adding greens (high in magnesium) would stop the cramps. I think if you roast the seeds the calcium will become tightly bound in c

What I have learned so far from our own experiences: One practical problem can be Zinc deficiency. A very real possibility. I used to ignore it and set my goal at lower levels (!), usually around 50%, thinking that on a raw diet may be the body needs less. Wishful thinking!!! Zinc is very important ESPECIALLY for carbohydrate metabolism, and for production of insulin. Granted that the sugars i

I thought this board was a raw vegan board, but it seems to be a stronghold for 80-10-10. I noticed that the thread with Mark's response had been deleted. I think people should be allowed to voice their experiences so we can all learn from it. I strongly believe in raw vegan, but I have also realized that it has to be done with care. Not warning people about possible problems (if not done right)

This is very interesting. Thanks Bryan for the links! They are very helpful. I have been admiring Gosia, and browsed through her site again. One thing which struck me is her intuitive eating. I like that idea. It will be so nice for my stomach but not for my weight, because I will not be able to eat enough to keep up my weight. even high carb juices are a problem. My BMI is 19, and really rea

Of course aging is part of life. But what when people look older than they really are? I expect rejuvenation from a good diet. How can I tell my patients what to eat, if they see that I look like crap? They will not listen to me. By the way Omega, my picture is not at all relevant. I am aging much faster than I would like, and this was on a high fruit-low fat diet. I have reduced my intake of f

I saw a recent picture of Douglas Graham. He does not look well at all. He is clearly aging and looks much older than he is. He definitely does not look well to me. And I read he actually admitted himself that he looks older. This is scary!!!

God is our Creator, we must talk about Him with the utmost respect. If you do not believe in God, then it will still be good manners to respect others who do. I am constantly amazed at the complexity of our bodies and metabolisms, no human can copy this, we only get a glimpse of what is going on in our bodies. Only an almighty God can do this, and I admire His creations. I am asking th

WorkoutMan, The bulk of our fruit consisted of mangoes most of the year, and other sweet local fruits. For about 4 months we have plenty papaya from the garden. Then there are mulberries in season, about 1-2 months. And may be at most 3 small bananas a day. Oranges were stopped because of the acidity and the fiber. We do get apples in the season, about 3-4 months or so in the wintertime. Pinea

Some of you say that fruit is not acidifying. We have done a lot of delicious ripe fruits, with vegetables etc and low fat, but my experience is that fruits are VERY acidifying for me. If I eat nuts my pH of urine goes up to 8.5-9, while with the fruits it will be around 6 at most. Vegetable juices are also alkalizing for me. Even tried some raw fish, same story, pH goes up. I am not trying to be

Loeve, Thanks! Interesting studies. How long have you been on this ratio of 45/45/10? Are you doing well? Did you experience any dental problems? I am inclined to think that the high fat can only work with very low carbs. My goal is 50-60 g carbs max per day, that is sort of managable for me. I have tried to go lower, but that is pretty tough, you can't eat anything any more, and I do n

Suncloud, Yes we are the guinea pigs, that is how I feel, and somehow it is comforting to know that I am not the only one. I am desperate to try this high nut/seed/green thing because everything else has failed me and I am desperate. We have been doing 6 years of raw vegan, but it has exacerbated my problems and I am in a mess. (Initially we ran too low on B12 but that was solved long ago with

We hear about high fruit/low fat all the time, but there may be more ways to do raw. People are so different. Would really love to know if it is possible long term to live on vegetables and nuts. Most people report difficulty digesting nuts, but they are such a wonderful protein source, there must be a way to enjoy them. On the low fat we can hardly do any nuts and seeds, but I really love the

Hi Lizard, What is helpful for weight gain is a high calcium/phosphorus ratio. The best calcium foods are greens, but when juicing greens a lot of the calcium is lost because it is bound to the fiber in the pulp. So I guess eating salads would be better for weight gain than green juices. High phosphorus compared to calcium would favor weight loss. I think that can be one reason why people re

Juices provide a load of sugars all at once, while the sugars of the whole fruits are absorbed more gradually because of the added fiber. Personally I would never juice fruits, except for an ill person, in cases where you want concentrated nutrition without all the fiber. I prefer to juice my green vegetables, because of the tough fibers which my system can't handle. Juices are also more clea

Dr Christopher, a well known herbalist, used to speak about high vibration and low vibration people and foods.Guess he was talking about the same thing. Also Ann Wigmore was very much into the vibration of foods. She insisted that the way the food was prepared also had a big impact.

We take loads of nettles, almost daily! We juice them sometimes, but more often they go in green smoothies. My personal favorite is a green nettle smoothie with cayenne and apple, delicious! Very strengthening and energizing. I have some beds in the garden, and by cutting them frequently we always have young tops the year round. Please only take the young tops!!! The older leaves and stems ha

What causes a lot of gas in all three of us are dried apricots. It helps to soak them though. Fiber is an issue, and food combinations. Like acid fruits (oranges, apples etc) after dried fruits, or fresh fruits after bananas or starchy vegetables. These are the worst for us.

What about having an abundance of sweet fruits around? When you start out you are bound to experience cravings (unless you do it Alissa's way , I really recommend her Living on Live Food book, you would never feel deprived!) Cravings can also be managed with lots of greens. And it helps to get enough calories. The body can crave anything when it does not get enough fuel!
