First off, happy birthday you youngster! As I like to say to my kids, life is a precious gift and you need to enjoy each and every day. It may sound trite but it's so true. As you age you'll understand this more. I'm with Emily - for your height, the weight you quoted was fine. As long as you're not a super model working for Chanel or Michael Kors I'm sure you look fabulous now. Step away

Darn nice recap of a drink vs. food blender there Bruce. Have enjoyed your posts for some time now on this particular part of the forum. Always nice to hear the thoughts and experiences of a professional chef. My best! David

Emily, I think this is a darn good question as a matter of fact. So much so, I posed a similar issue on the main forum not too long ago. Look for a thread titled "Flax Seeds vs. Flaxseed Oil" if you're interested. Before going raw I always read that it's a good thing to add Flaxseed Oil to smoothies so for the longest time I bought the best brand I could at Whole Foods. Roughly

I detect a soul mate in Wren as I'm a perfectionist too. Or at least attempt to be one. Let me share some of my favorite lyrics from Sting's first solo album: "I've spent too many years at war with myself. The doctor has told me its no good for my health. To search for perfection is all very well, but to look for Heaven is to live here in Hell." What I keep telling my aging Sa

Oh Wise Wheatgrass One, I take off a few days and you're posting all over the place! As you know I just bought a Waring Xtreme and VitaMix carafe and couldn't be happier. After I took delivery of the blender I too thought the horsepower and RPM weren't as advertised but instead of going back to Everything Kitchens for clarification I went straight to Waring. Bottom line is that the 1050 m

Awesome Bryan! I've been enjoying a kiwi (skin & all) in my morning smoothie ever since going raw and I eat broccoli every day for lunch in my salad. Nice to see that I have two of the three bases covered. Will pick up some cranberries on my next trip to the store. Great post and timely at that. David

F1, You're still the man as far as I'm concerned with 10+ years experience on this subject vs. my two months!!!! Of all you said above, this part to me is VITAL: "but the body does not know anything about sports or winning competitions all it knows is that it has a job to do and that is to heal and clean and for me cutting down on my workouts is a small price to pay compared to the

Well, I'm going to try and add my two cents without bitching & moaning since this topic is near and dear to my heart. Before going raw I was used to and LOVED intense exercise. My favorite event every year is a 100 mile bike ride in Wichita Falls, Texas in late August appropriately called "Hotter Than Hell". In my eyes for better or worse, the tougher the event the more I enjoy

To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure if I fully understand the differences between wet & dry blending to answer your question intelligently. I have read up on it a little, but not enough to voice an opinion that I'd feel comfortable sharing with the forum. Is this something that only VitaMix has dreamed up to sell more containers? Am not sure. Just asking the question. I would recommend

Sure thing Emily. Happy to oblige. I can verify that the Waring container is best for making large batches of things and not small. You're out of luck if you desire a small smoothie. I also found the square design of the Waring carafe introduced more air (cavitation ?) in my smoothies which I personally don't care for. Exactly right about the VitaMix container. While it holds the same

As far as the new powerful blenders go (3.5hp) the Waring is extremely quiet. Plus, you won't have to run it as long to blend up your super smoothies. It's an investment, just like one of Leno's classic Ferraris or Porsches. Look at it that way! David

Karen's spot on as usual Bruce. Don't use so many veggies and gradually increase as your system adjusts. I pretty much blend up the same green smoothie every morning. Try this or a variation. If you don't like a particular ingredient, leave it out! 1 cup fresh squeezed orange juice 1 whole kiwi, skin and all 1 stalk celery 1 handful of baby spinach 1 leaf of kale, stem & all 1 w

But in the long run it's worth it, Cuba Libra. I scored my Waring Xtreme from Everything Kitchens as well as the VitaMix container and use it multiple times a day. My morning smoothies are delightful and set the tone for the day. Wheatgrass Yogi: So glad to see you're back and doing well I trust. Wow, people just love you. Can't wait to hear how much you'll like your new Waring. It's one

Coconutcream, I certainly agree with you and feel that the sentiment is lovely and sincere. However, I believe it's far easier to go with what the mind and body tell you POST detox. Detox or transition away from the SAD is what I'm up against and I bet others are too. If I weren't physically tired, depressed, overwhelmed, confused, and basically just so new to the raw lifestyle everything

Great question that I was going to ask, too! I've had one sitting around my kitchen for a few days and finally cut in to it this morning. Since this was the first time I've ever eaten a pomegranate, I just popped out the ruby red seeds like BB's and added them to my green smoothie. It gave it a really distinctive sweet taste that I'm certain my sugar-holic daughter will love. I didn't know

Jodi loves it when I get busted! Badawie, my apologies. I stand corrected. You still sound like a lovely *person* and I wish you the best. I will say this: In my short time experimenting with raw foods, it's amazing how different we all are! Where a certain fruit seems to be the key to one, in another the reaction is totally different. I know I'm stating the obvious but to me it's such

Thanks for that Fresh! Brought a smile to my face. And yes, am out touring again with the boys. I hear the Classic Van Halen tour is getting great reviews. I listened to a bootleg from the first night in Charlotte and the band was spot on. Have always been a fan of Dave and not so much Sammy. Although Mr. Hagar and I used to share a love of tequila but that was some time ago! Believe h

Badawie, You sound like a terribly decent fellow. I hope you get these issues resolved to your satisfaction. I must agree with Karen and others who are recommending you steer clear of sweet fruits. An obvious and less than robust analogy comes to mind years ago when I began endurance bike riding/racing. At rest stops they provide a HUGE spread of carbs featuring all manner of foods from

Fuzzy! First pumpkins and now persimmons! Seriously, the black specs are fine. Enjoy! And hey, be nice to those cockroaches. As I say to my kids about bugs (tongue in cheek of course!) they won't eat much. Take care, David

This is so incredible as I was going to start a similar thread just this morning! My dear wife earlier today made mention of some new 'vitamin' out there that's supposed to help folks think more clearly & sharply. She said something about how it addresses those with low blood sugar as that apparently manifests itself by making those afflicted mentally flighty & in general 'out of it'.

Coco - the image of you sneaking in your son's room at night to tape slices of garlic to his feet brings a smile to my face! I'm gonna remember that one. Well, a couple of things since I whined earlier on. As for sodas, my wife has limited the kids to once a week. I'd prefer once a year but that's a battle I don't want to engage in. At least she's no longer taking them to McDonalds after I

Well, sadly my two kids (10 yr old daughter & 7 yr old son) are slaves to the SAD and even worse, eat all the sugary, highly processed sweets that my wife buys. While I love my spouse dearly, her parents are snackers and she's passed that on to our two kids. Don't misunderstand me - snacking is fine as long as it's fresh fruit and vegetables. Chips, soda, and cookies are not my idea of qua

Pretty interesting reading Fresh, I studied every word of both links. While I think there's merit to what was imparted, I still enjoy my hours at the gym and really feel at peace when on the bike. Say that I'm wired differently than most (my wife does!) but after all these years I truly love the endorphin rush experienced from working out and long bike rides. I receive no negative "endure

How fortuitous as I was going to ask about what can be done with pumpkins. I assume after removing the insides (my kids find that "yucky" I can eat the flesh or put it in smoothies? Also, what do you do with the seeds? Suppose they too can be blended in a smoothie but what other options are out there for a raw eater? You can't very well bake them in a low temp oven and sprinkle wi
