WOW...inspiring is right!! Motivational too. Makes you feel like you can do anything you set your mind to. Um, think I'll work on this big pile of laundry here actually. Hey...gotta start somewhere. (-: But seriously, thanks for sharing this. Pretty awesome. ~lanie

"Crazy" is an understatement dzm. Article's pretty twisted if you ask me. <Blanching also helps to destroy microorganisms on the surface of the vegetable and to make some vegetables, such as broccoli and spinach, more compact.> Yeah, also destroys a few other things like, oh I don't know, nutrients, fibers...TASTE. Maybe we should alert our poor unsuspecting animal friend

I agree with dzm that to be true to our "internal world" over "the perfect alignment of the proper nutrition and circumstances" (as if this were even possible) will always prove best in the end. My response to the "animal protein" comment was not from a place of "righteousness" either...just don't believe our fellow animals are food is all, like many oth

<It also said that in traditional societies without modern harvesting & storage techniques, it is nearly impossible to keep grains from fermenting and that is the ideal way to eat them> That's news to me too. Never heard of soaking grains and seeds in warm slightly acidic water either. All the sources I've read say to use room temp water for soaking and sprouting, which has always

I've been perusing that website for a while now and think it's awesome!! Like you, I love raw grains and found his research and tips super helpful. One of my favorite breakfasts is oat groats soaked overnight with nut or seed milk and fruit. Did you read his take on superfoods and colon cleansing? Obviously tongue in cheek, but it if you think about it makes sense. Love this guy's stra

< Believe in animal protein? I believe it exists, and is great for the animal using it > Kudos for your post rost0037...well said!!! Their skin, their fur, their LIVES are also great for them. To live and love and flourish on this planet as we do...no one has a right to take that away from them. That said, I find fresh produce to be the best (and tastiest) way to go. Of course,

Most important thing, as others have said, is not to beat yourself up about it. We all stumble sometimes. If my sweet cravings are truly physical (not some emotional upset I'm trying to medicate) I find dried fruit to be pretty satisfying...dates, raisins, figs are my favorites. Sometimes dried mango if it's moist. I think the longer you follow this lifestyle the less all those processe

I soak oat groats overnight and eat them with flax or almond milk, sometimes fresh berries when they're in season...or raisins, depending on how I feel. They can be sprouted too of course, for extra enzyme power, but I prefer them straight up...really soft and chewy. I also like throwing in a couple of soaked dates when I make nut and seed milk for a touch of sweetness.

About six months ago I made the decision to eat only locally grown, seasonal produce and since bananas, sadly, are not indigenous to where I live I've had to let them go. Funny thing is though, after practically not going a day in my life without a banana, I barely miss them....nor any of the other tropical fruits which I'd become so accustomed to but aren't indigenous to where I live.

I just got my 2-year chip in AA Brian so I TOTALLY get what you're going through and, most importantly, want you to know that you're not alone. It wasn't easy (nor was it my first attempt either) but eventually, with the love and support of lots of others like me, I was able to break free from the bondage of the obsession...and the insanity. There's been an incredible outpouring of encourageme

Ha ha...that's so true david. I'd MUCH rather be a detox space cadet than from all the other nefarious substances out there....not the least of which being the scary "foods" running rampant in SAD diets. Luckily I've been a full-fledged (unapologetic) plant eater for 20 years now, the last 10 as vegan, so any transitioning going on is probably as a result of becoming raw...going o

flipperjan: I actually always feel fine after eating mushrooms too, to be honest. Guess I'm just bothered by the thought of carcinogens and other nefarious substances floating around in my body. Hmmmm... Maybe I shouldn't think so much and just go with what feels right. Sometimes the internet can be scary if you hang out too long. SO much info take in and process. Hard to know what to bel

dzm: Do the grounding foods you mention work for most people, or do we all have to figure that out on our own? Also, you mean to regulate spaciness, etc. anytime or just when we're detoxing? If I'm not ingesting anything harmful then my body shouldn't be in detox mode, should it? The term "detox" is used so often that I think I may have lost sight of what it actually means. D

Sorry to be a wet blanket here but I never eat raw mushrooms anymore...and cooked ones only sparingly. I've just read way too much on them being toxic to feel comfortable ingesting the sundry little funghi. And I LOVE mushrooms!!! Epecially portobella, chanterelle and shittake (which, allegedly, is unsafe even when cooked). Am I being neurotic? Certainly open to correction if anyone aroun

sebzzz: I notice that your email's hidden. Mine is lanie@ecoisp.com. I'm sure they're tucked away somewhere on disc, just have to look a little. If you shoot me a quick email so I have your address, I'll be happy to send them on when I find them. Sometime later tonight for sure.

No prob sebzzz. I may still have the other two reports floating around my hard drive somewhere (one on gum disease and the other, a more detailed explanation of the 5 deadliest toothpaste ingredients). I'll run a search to see what surfaces. If they do turn up it might be better to just send them to your private mailbox as attachments. If I remember correctly, they're WAY too long to post h

You're very welcome Cy. I didn't know ANYTHING about nutrition really until I started asking questions and looking into stuff myself. Can't trust labels either, I'm learning. LOTS of good info and advice around here though...that's for sure!!

You're very welcome la_veronique. It's one of my favorites! Quote Correction: "The highest form of wisdom is kindness." ~The Talmud (not the other way around). Yes Seabucktho. Here's a list of both "borderline" and "never ever use" toothpaste, which were part of the original report. Tom's of Maine is included. I read this guy's other reports...also very helpful and interesting. Don't have them handy anymore but I'm sure he'd be happy to send them to you if you email him. That's a beautiful affirmation maui_butterfly. I wrote it down to use in my daily meditation and prayers...changing "I choose to nourish myself with the healthiest food available" to "I choose to nourish myself, mind, body and spirt," which, to my thinking, always includes food anyway. Everything you said is so right-on and inspiring. I especially love the part about obs

What a GREAT idea David!!! I've been collecting quotes for years. Can't seem to find my stash anywhere around here right now though...naturally. I'll have to dig some more and come back later. A couple of favorites off the top of my head in the meantime: "When you're expansive, no matter what the weather. You're in an open, windy field with friends." ~Rumi "Before you sp

Here's a report that I think you'll find SUPER helpful...I know I did. After trying a couple of the toothpastes recommended I settled on "Nature's Answer Periobrite," which can easily be ordered from the internet if you can't find it in stores. Their mouthwash is really good too. I know this is kinda long, but well worth the read: Vegan and Healthy Toothpastes Report by Art Konr

Cy: Flax seeds actually do have omega 6, though not as much as omega 3, you're right there. I'm no expert of course but from what I've read they offer the optimum balance of omegas 3, 6 and 9...moreso than either hemp or chia seeds. "Flaxseeds have the highest alpha-linoleic acid (omega-3). They contain about 3 1/2 times as much omega-3 fatty acids as omega-6 fatty acids. Flaxseeds also

I LOVE rutabagas. Eat them raw all the time...in salads, julienned, or just as is. Mmmmm...Not as tasty when you cook'm, if you ask me. Even super lightly steamed, lose that lovely sweet/earthy flavor. I find that the ones 4" diameters or less tend to be sweetest. Don't know where I heard that but seems to be pretty accurate. Never noticed any adverse digestive effects but we're all un

I never EVER kill any living thing...not intentionally at least (accidentally lost a plant to or two though). I used to be freaked out by spiders and other crawly things until it occured to me one day that they're part of this planet no less than me, with a whole little community and purpose of their own. Who am I to take that away from them because I don't get what it is, or just plain think

I think you're awesome for having the courage to broach such a "delicate" subject...and speaking of AWESOME, this forum is the best!!! I love how everyone's so non-judgemental and supportive. And like others have said, there are no dumb questions, at least not around here. That said... I had the same problem when I went raw about a year ago, to the point of developing an annal fiss
