Good luck... Have to admit that, while I got through the 3pm drama, I then ate a huge amount of pizza for dinner seemed like a good idea at the time, it always does, doesn't it??? This morning I feel yucky serves me right. would be nice to hear how you get on

VF the sugar monster hit again at 3pm today...right on cue ha ha. Had some melon and a banana, and felt full, but also full of craving. Out of my bag emerged my secret weapon...my lettuce. Ate the whole thing, made me feel a bit stuffed but again, it took the craving away. Now it's nearly 5pm and I'm feeling hungry again...but not craving kind of hungry so either I need calories or I've me

Day 30... am BS 4.6 Long live the lettuce! Ate half a galia melon for breakfast today as had no veggies left in fridge for a nice green juice - now, I have found before that if I eat fruit for breakfast I am more prone to sugar cravings during the day, but today I had the mother of all cravings about half an hour after breakfast. There I was in my traffic jam on the way to work, on cravi

Hi VF Thanks!!! lol Nice to hear that someone else is putting up with this Actually, I have found the same thing about greens. I know too that if I start the day with fruit, it's going to be a BAD day. Unless I am doing a lot of exercise which helps get rid of the cravings. I always start with a veggie juice eg half a cucumber, load of spinach or kale or spring greens, few sticks of

Hi Angie Thanks for the encouragement! It's up and down with diabetes, isn't it? I sometimes feel that I will never learn all there is to learn although like you say, you learn something new about how your body works every day. Hope things are going well with you. Claire

Day 29... 1am BS 3.8 [!] Not sure why that happened, went to bed at a decent level. Ate a sugar tablet and two dried apricots, wanted to avoid being too high in the morning but at the same time did not want to be hypoing again in the night. 6am BS 6.2 - messed that up but not too bad! Better than having another night-hypo anyway. Ate a banana. No insulin. 6:30am had planned to go for

Day 28... am reading BS 7.5 What? How did that happen? I never go up overnight - unless I have eaten something very fatty or heavy like a curry the night before and my stomach is still digesting and kicking out glucose after I go to bed. And I didn't eat like that last night. And I exercised yesterday evening. Am wondering if I hypoed without realising it in the night. Have a headache this mo

Well, I tried having half a large avocado with my salad today (butternut squash and parsley rice with romaine, YUM) and it does seem to have helped Just had my "3pm snack" at 4pm instead and only needed one banana and a fennel bulb instead of my usual fruit (or junk) frenzy. thank you! Claire

No insulin. 8:30am 1 cantaloupe melon. 1 unit NR 11am BS 6.4 banana-frenzy! Two bananas and two little red bananas. FINALLY they're ripe after sitting in the fruit bowl for a couple of weeks. Thanks for the suggestions...will try something heavier at lunch tomorrow. Luckily, I have an avocado which is just getting ripe Hi Angie...yes, these days I do get through the evening without eating after dinner. Never used to - always had to have something before bed, am sure my blood sugar was out of whack for years before getting diabetes. How are you doing with your blood sugar? Cl

Day 25 and 26... Have got a bit behind with my posting, so two days in one go here! Well, there's actually not a lot to write...let's just say I fell quite spectacularly off the raw food wagon this weekend and ate probably about 50% cooked. Had a meal at my favourite restaurant, which started up cravings big time for other things.... BS went all over the place, so did motivation to exercise

Day 24... am BS 4.7 Was going to bike into work today but decided to have a lie in instead as I haven't been feeling too good the past couple of days. Regretted not getting my exercise until I got in the car to go and the heavens opened...good decision! Drank my veggie juice in the car...few handfuls of spring greens, some green beans, cucumber, celery, ginger, red pepper, half a lime.

Day 23... Woke up feeling a bit rough still, and BS was still too high...8.8 Didn't fancy any breakfast and anyway didn't have time to be juicing due to getting up late and having to be out of the house by 7am! 10am BS had come back down with bump, 2.3 and I was STARVING. It was like my body suddenly wanted all those calories it missed out on yesterday! Ate a couple of sugar tablets fo

Day 22... What a day! [] Must be coming down with something. Woke up with BS at 10.4 and despite pumping insulin in all day stayed between 10 and 19 [:0] Also threw up a few times. Have never had anything like this since being diagnosed, but then again have not been ill yet as a diabetic...quite surprising really given that I work in three different schools and the kids are always ill

Hi Revolutionary Good on you! You are so young and you are taking your health into your own hands...I wish you good luck! I would just go to the shop and buy all the fruits and vegetables you like eating...then eat them whenever you are hungry. No need to restrict food, eat as much as you want whenever you want (without totally stuffing yourself all the time obviously!). You could try

Day 21... am BS 4.2 Had time this morning to do some exercise, so ate a banana (no insulin), went for a quick walk (30 mins) and tried a little bit of running in with it. First time in over a year due to injured calf! Seemed OK, hooray! I miss my running. Will try to do a little bit a few times a week and start to build it back up again. Insoles should be ready soon, which will help. Got ba

Sorry, didn't get time to post yesterday so have two days to enter today... Day 20 am BS 5.1 Decided to bike into school today (10 miles), drank a glass of orange juice to fuel the journey. No insulin. Stopped halfway as I felt like I was getting a bit low and wanted to check it out...4.5. Had a couple of sugar tablets to keep me going. 8:30am Breakfast: very large chunk of watermel

Day 19... Well, something I ate yesterday definitely didn't agree with me. Don't know whether it was the dried apricots or maybe the olives at the restaurant as they were very heavily marinated and certainly not raw in any case. Felt just like I used to in the morning - pale, pasty, puffy, groggy for ages after I got up. Had wanted to do some exercise before taking my Mum out for lunch for Mot

I have been with my partner for nearly 5 years, we have lived together for about 4 of those years. He is as SAD as it gets and I have always been looking for "what's healthy". He has always eaten meat, I have always been veggie. I cook for him everyday and always have done and I simply prepare two different meals. It can be a pain, but at the end of the day I do not want to eat what

Hi simple living you're welcome! I love this forum, it is SO useful and motivating. Glad you have joined us. I was only diagnosed with diabetes (type 1) in August. Raw is certainly helping me to keep my blood sugar well controlled with a smaller amount of insulin than I would have needed on SAD...but I have only been tinkering with raw since December so who knows what the long-term effec

I take... Some fruit for a late breakfast (have a green juice before I leave home but often need something by 9ish), some fruit for mid-morning, a huge salad for lunch and some fruit for mid-afternoon. Then I have another big veggie meal for dinner. I also take lots more food than I need because going hungry will make me want chocolate! Also because I am diabetic and if I have a hypo I end

Slept badly last night Lad next door had his 16th birthday party. He was polite enough to come round and warn us, spent about ten minutes going on to my partner about how there ARE nice, considerate kids around after all (we both work with stroppy kids all day!) but changed my mind about 10pm when I was trying to get to sleep and chants of "let's go f****** mental (or more like men'al, this

Hi Angie... thanks for your message, nice to hear from you again! How are things going for you? Yes, we measure BS on a different scale, it's millimols per litre. Not sure how this converts to the US system, but as a guide... am/pre-meals should be between 4 and 7 two hours after meals should be under 8 before bed should be 6-8 under 4 is a hypo I did think about the fact

Day 17... Good decision not to do a correction last night...this morning BS 4.3 Forgot to say yesterday that I measured my pH to see whether the muffin episode had affected it - and it had, I was acidic again (6.5). Was back up at 7.0 this morning. Would like to be more 7.2/7.4 though... Made a veggie juice - cucumber, celery, half a cabbage, one and a half carrots (sugar for my exercis
