A lecture from a qualified nutritionist who is also a raw food eater, Dr. Tel Oren, suggest to add healthy fats (like seeds and nuts, even coconut oil), to fruit salads and smoothies, to stimulate chewing and to slow down the sugar absorption into the blood stream. I know a lot of people are anti healthy fat, I am still not clear why, as a short term measure this may work for you.

What does IMHO stand for? When I was in Afrika, I visited Ghana, Togo, Benin, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Swaziland, Zimbabwe and Azania (South Afrika). Absolute time of my life. Seeing the wealth of natural things, yet the poverty of the people's condition confuses me to this day. Their foods were huge, in Zim I saw avocados the size of rugby balls. I have pictures of yams a

Yes I am with you Hellokitty, it is the calories that concern me too. Just to clarify, i am not saying that this is the way i will eat for life, I am just tired of being sick and tired and it is the last thing to do, high fat high greens. Maybe you meant hybrid fruit/ vegetables, rather than high bread...lol. In the tropic we have a fruit called breadfruit, I think it came with Capt. Bligh t

OK peeps, Those who follow my story know recently I have been having energy issues. I still awaiting test results, however the main suggestion is to reduce sweet fruits (yeast overgrowth, worms and proteins in blood, amongst other things) and increase healthy fats. Yet most raw foodies say no, fats r bad, keep below 10%. So if I do that then I have to eat cooked food to get the calories necessa

RawdancerUK, I don't think watermelon is that calories dense as you recall, not criticising you, just asking for clarification of what you mean by calorie dense. e.g. 1lb of bananas has three times the calories of 1lb of watermelon. CJJ, 600 calories in watermelon is over 4lbs of fruit. Even I would struggle to eat that volume. Give yourself a break, and easy does it. For me health is my prim

If you ever travel to tropical areas were they sell pineapples on the street, you find the experts cut the skin diagonally, cutting out the 'eyes'. By the time they finish it like a huge yellow lollipop. It doesn't waste as much flesh as when cut straight down the side (how I do it). I am not that dextrous yet. :-) I get a prickly burning feeling when its not fully ripe. Also the skins can be st

I heard a lecture from raw food nutritionist Dr. Tel Oren from Ecopolitan suggest that fat intake depends on your environment, as said before good fats counter balance free radical damage created by rancid food and polluted environment. He suggest no more than 40% calories from fat, or avocados, olive, palm and coconut oil, seeds, nuts, etc. If you live in a clean, tropical paradise, you can use

David Wolfe Sunfood diet system. He suggests men eat daily, 3.6kg fruit, 1.4kg veg (including plenty greens) and 0.15 kg nuts or seeds. Women a bit less. This is not a transition food plan I think, a guide to see where you're going. It helped me. Check out the RawDivas website, they have plans and recipes (some free). Also Ecopolitan had a free 7 day planner, that was for a detox though. Hope

Hi Buddha I tried Noni for 2-3 months and it helped with my PMS. I did notice vitality significant although people said my eyeballs got really clean. Here we call it 'dog dumplings', because when it is ripe it stinks like, well, dog dumplings! How I was taught to prepare it is, when ripe, slice it cover with clean water and let it ferment. I did a huge jar and drank 1 -2 oz daily, adding wa

How it was explained to me is that they are all around us, in soils and water (they're microscopic). It was suggested to me to soak / wash in H2O2 and water solution for 20 minutes, then dry thoroughly and store.

Hi all. Using our national health service on Wednesday, the lab tests will come back in two weeks, they say. I am grateful for this, they're testing, stool for parasites, haemoglobin, kidney, liver and hormones. The NHS doctor thinks some of my symptoms could be menopause related. Thanks again for the suggestions which I am incorporating into my live-it food plan. I will fill y'all in when I

Greetings friends I think quackery is involved, I talked with someone else here who suggested I get a second opinion from a lab, which I will do on Monday. I don't have pets or anyone else with pets licking my face (sigh), well not yet anyway! I figure I am going to stick with the more natural food methods until I get results. It is a good heads up for me though, sickness, as well as healt

Thanks everyone for this detailed analysis and supportive suggestions. The worms are thread worms, don't know their medical name, long and skinny. I went back there today to ask questions but he wasn't in I will call tomorrow. Checking his supplements and servings I would need 2 times the amount not including the food I need to buy, nearly $600 for 30 days treatment. The doctor suggested pancre

Oh my gosh, help me. I been 80% raw for about 8 months I released 78lbs so far, although no weight loss for the past 3 months. Friday I took a blood test because I have not been feeling brilliant these last two months, and he discovered parasites/ worms in my blood, aarghh!!!! He also found yeast and proteins in there, signifying a leaky gut too. He suggested nearly $300 of supplements (gree

My head is not good! I forgot that about 3 weeks ago I stopped taking a mega vit & mineral supplement, too much money. It could be that it has worked out of my system and the drain of my menses accelerated that process. I going o check and see if there is a thread already about raw food and supplementation.

It's true, once I start I enjoy. I went on a bike ride with my neighbour in December. It was fun, then....well my procrastinating life took over. You could be right. It may not be anaemia it couldbe B12. I remember I had been using this multi-vit and mineral powder. However they were very expensive here, US$40 for 15 days supply. I just didn't have the money anymore. That ended about 2 or 3 week

For a few weeks now I have been sprouting some seeds like alfalfa brocolli and radish, very easy to do, however I basically blend them or add them to my salads. I never got into the gourmet raw food with lots of recipes and things, too lazy I guess. I also sprout some chick peas and tried to make hummus, it was disgusting and I had to throw them away. I used to love cooked falafels, I guess I wi

I do, especially if I'm juicing them. I guess its the cider effect, as long as there's no mold or fungus, a bit of brown won't kill me...I think, lol.

Yes, I definitely need to do more exercise. I have my bicycle out for the cardio however the weather has been terrible, we just moved into our rainy season and it has been pouring, blessings on the rain! I have some weights too, pep bottles of various sizes filled with water, however I been going through an anaemia thing and energy levels have been very poor and low. So low I don't have the ener

Hi everybody Just to update you. Last month I released 8.5lbs. Yippee, I weigh myself once a month (otherwise I would be obsessive and compulsive about it). It's strange because last month I was less than perfect on my raw vegan path, bread and a lot more cooked vegan entered my diet, however I felt poorly because of it and want to return to the boundless energy I had at the beginning. So much g

Hi All Thank you so much for your inputs and great information. I am feeling better a few days on, I am becoming more conscious of the iron content of my foods and starting to track it on Cronometer. I think I need to juice & blend more of my greens, as chewing is not doing it. I will try that for a while and feed back. I also need to add more citrus not realizing its needed for non-heme ab

Greetings family I tried cooked veganism before (about 4 years ago) and after 9 months became severely anaemic. This time around (just over 6 months) I have been 80% raw and vegan and recently my menses ended and I beginning to feel those smptoms of anaemia again. waking up tired, or completely exhausted by early afternoon. I also been finding it difficult to sleep these past few days. I been

I am new to raw and luckily I was guided by an experienced raw fooder who is not into too much gourmet raw foods. He suggests to keeps it simple. Nut & seed butters are mostly rancid. It's better to get the nuts / seeds and grind them yourself.
