Good choice, Paul. I was eating mostly veggies and nuts and not a lot of fruit for a long time, and I've since switched over to mostly fruit, and it's *so much* better. Lighter, happier, more spiritually in tune. Btw, Durianrider, your inclusion of magic mushrooms in your list of negative substances is bizarre. It's quite exactly the opposite, my friend. You shant conflate mushrooms with coff

Adriatic figs? I'll search for them. I *love* fresh figs, too. I find them very energizing and building. I used to eat a lot of dried, and now I understand why I was drawn to them... there's something about figs, IMO. But, it's true, you have to get good ones.

Re: Nobody eats 100% fruit long-term- that's not true. I've heard plenty of stories. And check out the book, "Fruitarianism: The Path to Paradise," by Ann Osborne.

Hey, but don't feel guilty, btw! That's our worst enemy. I fell off the wagon recently, too. After eating almost entirely fruits for some time and feeling amazing with it, I picked up eating nuts again, for some unknown reason, culminating in a binge of almonds, pistachios and avacadoes yesterday. All I can do today is... observe my sluggishness and take a day to fast. And forgive myself for the

"All of us are nothing but a former or current addicts to different types of bad (junk) food." ...That is so sadly true. I've had addictions, too. WanderRa, you should view your sweet thing as a literal drug addiction. You wouldn't include heroin in your diet 5%, right? Sugar is a drug!- a drug very detrimental to mind, body and soul. And chocolate is a whole other dangerous drug in

I've had a lot of insomnia... I don't think that eating late at night is such a good idea, actually, and definitely nothing heavy. When I do it it keeps me from sleeping. I'd recommend herbs. I personally don't like valerian, because it's really strong and makes me feel depressed the next day, but I've had success with kava kava and passionflower. If you're going to eat an hour before bed I thi

I agree with a lot of the responses already posted. I think the biggest thing is- trust your instincts! You say you love fresh fruit and salad- well, eat lots of fresh fruit and salad. It doesn't need to be complicated; in fact, I've found the simpler the better. The thing with fruit is to eat as few different fruits at a time as possible. I think one or two at a time is ultimately ideal. And I a

Re: chocolate, I used to be addicted to coffee, so I'm sensitive to stimulants. I think stimulants are death, and chocolate, raw or not, is basically coffee light. It shuts down your third eye, gives you an artificial rush of energy from the caffeine and theobromine, and then you crash. I'm sure if you pay attention to it, you'll notice this. The last times I ate chocolate I felt terrible for abo

I want to say I totally agree with Rab that being a hard-core athlete is not ideally healthy. I think it overly wears down our bodies. I think we should exercise moderately, casually, and enjoyably for optimum health. Of course, if you really enjoy being an athlete then all the power to you, but running marathons our whole lives is sure to deteriorate your body, and personally I think that's it's

Yeah, well peanuts are different. I don't do peanuts... but almonds and macadamias, etc., definitely better raw, at least I think so. And I bet the vast majority would think so too, in a blind taste test.

I agree; we've got to become political about it! But I don't think I spend more on a raw vegan diet. I think I may spend less, actually. I have no idea how Durianrider spends $1000 a week on fruit. Well, I guess it's because he's a serious athlete. I exercise moderately, but I don't run marathons or anything, and I get so much nutrition per unit with my organic raw food (including tons of fruit).

This is very interesting, so I hope people keep checking this thread. Prana, do you include fatty fruits such as avacadoes and olives in your view of fruitarianism? Or do you think the ultimate ideal is only eating sweet fruits?

Well, I can't fathom why they do, because raw nut butters have always tasted better to me, even before I was raw. I think most folks just haven't tried the raw versions....

I have actually been ordering organic sun-dried dates from Living Tree Community Foods, and by many times they're the most luscious dates I've ever tasted in my life. I also tried sun-dried fruit from these folks called "Raw From the Farm," but- not nearly as good. It does see to me that sun-dried is much preferred.

David, do you include dates in that? I'm definitely trying to stop with the dried fruit, but I may make an exception for dates, because there's no other way to get them (this time of year, at least), and I'm infatuated with them. They don't seem to cause the same sugar problems as dried figs or raisins- for me, at least- but I suppose they're not as good as fresh fruit, though you'd have a hard t

I was kind of joking. It's really because the companies can get away with it. Raw is seen as a special commodity, even though it's simpler. Just because a lot more roasted nuts are made doesn't mean it's cheaper to make them, so supply-and-demand as an explanation doesn't quite make sense. It's just that people will pay more for what they perceive as a higher-notch product. But anyway...

One would think so, but in this system if it's good for you they make it more expensive. It's a conspiracy against raw food. Anyway, Living Tree can be very expensive, it's true. Here's a farm of raw foodists in California that offers truly raw almonds at $11 a pound: I just bought truly raw (Italian) almonds from a farm in New York called Turquoise Barn at about $7 a pound, but you need t

I find the nuts from Living Tree Community Foods to be exceptional- There's also a web site www.nutsonline.com which is extremely fast in their ordering process, but I don't think that their stuff is quite as high quality. What nuts specifically are you looking for?
