On the other hand, I'd say your body's probably used to more protein and fat foods, so why don't you try lots of nut butters and/or avacadoes (if you aren't already) and try to notice how much happier your body and mind feel afterwards, compared to after the hot dog and chicken.

I'm a recovered coffee addict (preferred espresso), and I believe that coffee is the elephant in the living room of bad health and robotic, non-creative behavior in the western world. It totally shuts down your third eye; it's an extremely powerful drug that's highly addictive and very, very bad for you at every level. Yet its totally accepted in society, and generally glorified. Caffeinated tea

The only point I disagree on is that aggressiveness doesn't come from eating meat. I used to eat meat, and I can say that especially red meat does indeed make one overly aggressively and patriarchal. And dairy does that too, though a little less so, and it makes one depressed and confused. Regardless, though, I believe that the health and happiness argument for veganism is more effective than t

Thanks, everyone!!! I'm starting to find the same thing as a lot of you. The longer I'm raw the less fat and protein I seem to need, and I eat more fruit, and especially cause it's the summer, I imagine. I've actually gotten really into dates, and if I don't combine them with lots of heavy stuff I don't feel tweeked out at all; at least I haven't been. Right now I'm on a fruit and nuts kick (most

I have to confess- for the first time in a very long time the other day, and for no particularly explainable reason, I ate some raw dairy. And it was a terrible, horrible experience, which stayed with me through the following day, and which I will never repeat. Cheers.

Well, thanks, Utopian Life. I'm interested in that perspective, absolutely, but I know that when I feel a lot of sweet fruit I don't feel the tranquility I feel when eating mostly veggies and nuts/seeds and lower-glycemic fruit. I'm a classic ayurvedic "vata," though, so that may be why I need a lot of heavier stuff. I would like to experiment with everything in time, though. But I know

Thanks, Prana. Yeah, I think that is what I'm starting to find... but, I can't eat tons of sweet fruit either, though I think a bit more of it as I'm raw for longer. I'm going to try eliminating the extremes of garlic and cayenne and strive for a balance of veggies with moderate spicing; hearty fats that I love, like olives and almonds; and fresh fruit, mostly lower-glycemic, like raspberries and

Interesting range of responses here- thanks, all. For the record, I've been making this "pistachio chili" repeatedly and actually loving it. I think it was just the moment that first time, and too late at night. Late night eating always disturbs me. But what Trive said strikes me as right- use fewer spices, not a million in combination, cause that may confuse the body. Or at least do

I've never had it. Should I give it a shot? This fruit has such an intense reputation, I have to admit I'm curious. Where does it come from exactly? It's big in Thailand, right?

A bad batch, I don't know. Probably. But I think the stuff tastes kind of weird, too. I had a spirulina energy bar recently at a conference when there was no other more substantive raw food around, and I was like- yuck. I'll definitely try again, but if we don't like something we shouldn't eat it.

I came into raw foods totally from a personal, consciousness level. It was from doing a lot of (entheogen-aided) meditation- I opened up my third eye and, bam, couldn't eat cooked food anymore. Physical considerations came afterwards, but of course my body feels a million times better, too. I think it's really all about that consciousness level, too. Too much super sweet stuff disturbs me, too, b

That's a good point, However, I'd like to make an exception for goji berries. My bag of goji berries says that you're sun-dried, and they are, after all, a himalayan superfruit, and profoundly delicious and relatively low-glycemic. :-) And you can't get them fresh unless you're in the mountains of Nepal (I believe).

Mm, thanks. Maybe it was too much cayenne pepper. I really poured it on. Btw, here was the basic formula I used, which I modeled after Living Tree Community Food's delicious "pistachio pesto": -pistachios, sesame seeds, sun-dried tomatoes, olives, olive oil, basil, curry, cumin, garlic, thyme, rosemary, cayenne, salt What kind of curries do you do, Curator? Make simple curry sauce

I agree with the folks saying to be very moderate with dried fruit. I've really had a problem with eating too much dried fruit as a sort of "transition food." It's been hard to kick the habit... dried figs and raisins are really addictive. To me all that sugar feels really speedy and unbalanced. Gabriel Cousens says that occasional use in recipes is OK, but it's best to soak them first.

136. spices?
I'm curious how much spicing people do to their foods- at least those of you who eat more vegetables and nuts, as opposed to mostly fruit. I made a raw pistachio chili yesterday, and it was absolutely delicious, but it really disturbed my consciousness, and I'm trying to figure out if it was the garlic, the cayenne pepper, or both, or perhaps all the spices (also used curry and cumin and himal

I'll check out Organic Pastures. I like Living Tree Community Foods a lot. I order nuts and nut butters online from them, and have found them to be of very high quality. Their almonds and their macadamia nuts are both exceptional. Plus, they have these raw pestos that are *amazing.*

I can understand why someone would want to be alone and isolated from society, but ultimately I disagree with it. I think our challenge is to stay within society and work to transform it. That doesn't mean one needs to constantly be in the belly of the beast, but to leave it entirely and permanently represents a giving up on humankind that I don't think is right, and doesn't contribute to saving

Just last night I dehydrated some asparagus lightly and served it to my mom for mother's day with a tahini sauce and salad, and it was a huge hit!

I've definitely found the difference between very sweet fruit and low-sweet fruit to be very significant. Low-sweet fruit is a lot better, I've found. Not that one can't ever had super-sweet fruits, but it's healthiest to keep them in moderation. There's also a lot in Rainbow-Green Live Food Cuisine" about eating to match your ayurvedic constitution. For instance, I'm very "vata"-

Cacao/chocolate is an extremely addictive stimulant *drug.* I'm perplexed by how many people in the raw food world defend it, or are in denial about it. Chocolate can be a serious addiction, and if you wouldn't snort cocaine on an occassional basis, you shouldn't eat chocolate on an occassional basis. There are natural herbs that make you feel good; you don't need stimulants.

Trive, I'm interested in your experience. I use oils in salad dressings and such- mostly olive and flax- but I'm starting to wonder if I'd be better off not, as they seem to bog me down, and oil isn't truly a "whole food," per se, is it? Perhaps it's better to get my fats from avacadoes and olives and some nuts/seeds. I suppose you've found success in this avoidance of oils, huh?

I came into living foods purely from a spiritual place, and it was from a lot of meditation with the use of psychedelic plants, such as psilocybin mushrooms. I was coming out of a period of addiction and insomnia- rooted in caffeine and sugar- and using psychedelics gave me the biggest-picture perspective that I needed and gently opened my third eye. With my third eye open I saw the truth for wha

I read his latest, "Rainbow-Green Live Food Cuisine," which I thought was spectacular. His bookbasic thesis is that we're much better off eating less sweat foods. He lays out a glycemic index of fruits and suggests that people can eat a fair amount of lower-glycemic (sugar) fruits, such as berries and cherries, but should be very moderate in our consumption of the higher-glycemic fruit
