Hi m, I have those green plastic sprouting lids that fit (sort of) over the wide-mouth quart or pint jars. They're usually available at the health food store. In the morning, I measure out a quarter cup sesame seeds and a quarter cup sunflower seeds and put them into the jar. I add water to cover over half the depth of the seeds, then stand the jar upright and let the seeds soak all day. A

Good point Felix about the avocados. I eat avocados too, usually about 1/2 to a whole avocado almost every day. I used to think I needed the oil from the avocado PLUS the oil from the seeds everyday to stay satisfied. But now I know it's not so much the oil from the seeds that I need (since I already have avocado). It's the NUTRITION from the seeds. Sesame seeds and sunflower seeds supply

Just thought I'd report on my most recent experiment with raw food. It's not a big change (or at least it doesn't seem like it), and I've talked about it some already. I'd like to go into a little more detail, and I hope people will read and send me their comments and suggestions. I started sprouting my sesame seeds and sunflower seeds, mostly as a response to all the enthusiasm over 80/10/

Hi Fud, Although I heartily disagree with Fruitarianone's advice, I understand his concern about your strong physical reaction to fruit. I think it's possible that raw fooders are often more sensitive to a dietary imbalance than cook fooders, and I believe there are probably alternatives within a raw food diet that could work for you Fud if you'd rather stay raw and avoid cooked food altog

I was very careful to eat only the raw dates, but I finally stopped eating them completely because it seemed like I was getting a date addiction. I'd start out with 3 a day, then pretty soon it would be 3 after every meal, then pretty soon 6 after every meal, then sometimes 10 together at one time. WHOA! Also, I did a little experimenting, and found that when I ate as many dates as my date a

Before yoga, I definitely prefer an absolutely empty stomach. I've usually eaten bananas or bananas and oranges before I run. Lately I've been adding a half avocado just for stamina on longer distances. I can pretty much eat anything raw before doing aerobic/weights, as long as I'm not too full of course.

Hi fuzzysox, Don't get discouraged. My face was kind of like that for a while too. It seems that at least some of my acne was probably cystic, although I don't remember people using that term back then, and I didn't consult a doctor. I considered my skin to be on the oily side, medium caucasian tone, not particularly fair. If you're using straight tea tree oil, it might be too strong for

To fuzzysox: Nope, no really bad scars. Everybody's different of course, but I bet you'll be recovering soon and looking and feeling just great. I think if it happened to me now I'd check out some of the newer stuff for acne that contains tea tree oil. It's available in the health food stores. I haven't read the total ingredients, and I know regular full strenth tea tree oil can be too stro

Hi fuzzysox. Yes I have soaked pumpkin seeds out of the shell. I'm sure they can be sprouted with the shell on them too, but if you're sprouting for the sprout and not for the young greens, it's less of a hassle if you sprout without the shell, because you won't have to remove the shells when the sprout is ready. If you're sprouting them for the leafy greens, after a few days of sproutin

If you're getting any kind of physical exercise (and you SHOULD be), 1200 calories a day isn't very much. I often eat up to 2000 calories a day or more, and I weigh 90 - 95. Besides calories, you might check to see that you're getting enough nutrients. I find that no matter how many calories I eat in a day, I will feel hungry if I don't get enough calcium, iron, and yes, even protein. Altho

Where are you coconutcream? Somehow that doesn't look like Florida (I've been gone for a while, so maybe I missed something. I apologize). About the acne, I remember when I first decided to give up eating meat, my face broke out for several months pretty severely even though I was already in my 20s. My boyfriend reassured me that I was just "cleaning out", and that seemed to jive

I agree. It might be time to try to move on to 100% raw. I found that after menopause, even on all raw, my weight started wanting to slide up the scale. I've been doing about an hour a day of yoga for over 20 years. I added running, walking, and an aerobic program with hand weights. I also started soaking my sunflower seed/sesame seed combo I'd been eating UNsoaked for about 15 years. I

Here's my best story on diary. Actually it's my husband's story. His name is Scott. When Scott was 15, his mother died; and since his father was never around and Scott wasn't much of a student, he quit school and was lucky to find a job working at a wheat and dairy farm. The farmer was kind, and he tried to treat his workers and his animals well, and he farmed as naturally as he felt he w

I like to eat sprouted wheat. I soak it over night, and then rinse and drain it until the little sprouts are maybe about 1/8 to 1/4 inch long (2 to 3 days from starting to soak). Then I eat the sprouted wheat whole with a salad - not much, just a small amount. I have it about once a week. It's very satisfying (unlike cooked grains). I find it very good and easy to digest if I eat it whol

Hi Minou, You asked if sugar from carbs is similar to sugar from fruits. Sugar is a carbohydrate, whether it comes from fruit or from table sugar. Sugar from fruit is fructose. The regular table sugar is sucrose. I did some googling, and found that when you eat sucrose (the table sugar), it breaks down into about half fructose and half glucose. Most of the glucose you get when you eat

Hi tristani, For me, the changes were there from just about the beginning, but they were as fleeting as my ability to stay raw. I'd feel great while I was raw, and bad whenever I wasn't. Slowly, (I'm talking in terms of decades), I've been able to increase the raw and decrease the cooked until now I'm pretty confident of being raw all the time. I'm a slow learner. But I know that if

Thanks everybody for your replies! This reinforces the feeling for me that we all have so much in common, even though we're all maybe just a little bit different. Kind of like a family. I like it!

Well I like the fruits, but I'm beginning to have more and more respect for the greens. Johnsonandtheshits reminded me of something when he said green was the color of hope and renewal. There's an old movie, "The Boy With the Green Hair". It's about a war orphan, living with a distant relative, who wakes up one day with green hair. He hates it of course, and gets teased a lot and

I think it's very interesting that some raw vegans lean more towards vegetables, and some lean more towards fruit. I've come to believe that either way is OK. Being a high fruit person (I feel best this way), I was surprised when I came to this forum to find that many raw vegans eat a lot more vegetables than fruits. In fact some don't eat fruits at all. I think I've learned a lot

Something else I just remembered that I thought I might pass on to you Dream Earth just in case. Once several years ago, I ate walnuts for several days that were not organic, and I became very ill, with pains so bad in my gut that I couldn't even stand up straight. I had no idea why I felt so bad. I was given some organic walnuts (it was harvest time), and I ate those instead of the others, a

I was wondering if Manna Bread was a raw food product, so I emailed Natures Path and asked them. They emailed back and said it was NOT a raw food product. You can check by going to their site, www.naturespath.com and sending them an email. They were pretty quick in their response.

Dear Runninggal, I agree with TroySantos. Nuts and seeds are a major source of protein, and you don't have to eat very much of them to get what you need. Fruits and vegetables also contain more protein than the meat and dairy industries would like us to know. A balanced diet of fruits, vegetables (possibly including seaweeds), and nuts and seeds will supply all our protein needs. Wheneve

The assumption you made about the nuts/seeds might be correct. My stomach was starting to give me some serious grief until I recently started soaking or sprouting all my seeds. So far, the difference is quite amazing, and thankfully, I can still eat my seeds. Also, are you getting enough exercise?

Before raw food I suffered from fatigue, depression, and overeating. Raw food helped put me in control of myself and my own health and wellbeing. What have I gained? Probably my life.

CALCIUM, SUNSHINE, AND EXERCISE. My understanding is that Taylor is right about the meat, and dairy will also leach calcium from the body. Whole (brown) sesame seeds are one of the best sources for calcium. There's more calcium in 1/4 cup of sesame seeds than in one whole cup of whole milk. You can go to nutritiondata.com and search sesame seeds, select whole dried sesame seeds, NOTE TH
