I usually eat 1/2 avocado in the late morning or early afternoon. Then I MIGHT eat the other half later in the day (around 5 or 6) if I'm still hungry after my dinner. My favorite thing to eat with avos is cucumber and lemon juice. I don't eat avocados as my only fat. I eat seeds too because nuts and seeds contain important vitamins and minerals like vitamin E, calcium, and iron. Fruits an

Hi. ILoveJen, A diet that includes enough of all essential nutrients is important, but getting enough vitamin E is especially important for healthy skin (you might try googling vitamin E, skin and see what you can find). According to nutritiondata. com, sunflower seeds are one of the best sources for vitamin E. Sesame seeds are good too, but not nearly as good as sunflower seeds. Avocados

Sunshine 79's suggestion about the Yeast Cleanse herbal product sounds interesting. Sunshine, do you know what the ingredients are? Is it an internal cleanse or is it applied externally? Dancerinthenight, for external application, you might try calendula gel or calendula cream from the health food store. If your health food store has kukui nut oil, you might try that (applied externally)

There's more and more information coming out about how a lack of vitamin D is linked to osteoporosis and cancer, and about how vitamin D supplementation is not a sufficient source of vitamin D. Exposure to sunshine is still the best way for us to get vitamin D. I would just keep that in mind when applying sun screen. I know for myself that I do need some sunscreen, especially on my face wher

I use an Aubrey facial cleanser for dry or sensitive skin, and then the Aubrey rosa mosqueta moisturizer. Aubrey is kind of expensive, but I only use a little each time I wash, and it lasts a long time. The products are vegan. Vitamin E is really important for maintaining skin tone and overall healthy skin. Lately I noticed that my vitamin E consumption is very low. According to nutrition

2916. Re: Iodine
I've been getting my iodine mostly from sundried dulse or raw nori. I crumple up the dulse and put it on my salads or make veggie wraps with the nori. I think I might try buying the fresh raw seaweed though. The health food store here often carries several varieties of fresh seaweed in containers.

They could have been picked too green. Possibly they are in an area of your house that is either too cold or too hot. Or they are exposed to direct sunlight.

I like what Tristani says, "I'll just keep trying to stay raw." Anybody who does that plus keeps an open mind (whether they know a lot or a little), they'll do fine on raw.

I think too much salt can dehydrate a person. I never went for the idea that a person would be more likely to stay hydrated during a race or whatever if they ate salt pills. My theory (similar to Bryan's, but totaly lacking any scientific evidence whatsoever) is that people become dehydrated when they eat too much salt. The reason they become dehydrated when they eat too much salt is t

Hey rawdev and greenman, I kind of like the apple seeds myself. I would eat more of them except one of my dogs likes apple cores so much, it's the only thing she'll scratch on the door for. She can always tell from outside if there's an apple core around. The uneaten whole apples don't attract her - just the core with the seeds. SOOOO.....I'm curious. What's wrong with apple seeds?

Dear Rawrnr, I'm so sorry to hear you're going through all this. I think you need to do whatever you can to regain control. Probably staying away from cooked grains COMPLETELY is a good idea. I can't eat even a teaspoonful of any cooked grain without going wild. I've heard that something in cooked grains has a chemical effect that actually stimulates your body's appetite response. It sur

Hi rawrnr, I'd just like to add that monoeating could probably be part of a realistic and healthy routine if it's for just one or two meals during the day on a regular basis, rather than trying to monoeat just one thing all day long each and every day. Do your own experimenting, but try to keep in mind that if you try something over and over again, and it doesn't work well for you, don't ju

Dear Rawrnr, I've had a lot of trouble with overeating in the past, but I'm doing very well these days. For me what really helped was to be realistic and work toward a steady diet that I could sustain, so that I could develop a healthy HABIT of eating less. Developing that HABIT is KEY. You can do that on raw. In fact for me I found it much easier to do it on raw than on cooked. But

Hi Bryan, Thanks so much for answering my questions! I've been trying to reduce the amount of fat I eat, because I do feel better when I eat less fat. Right now I'm usually at around 20% - 25% fat. I think I could bring that down by sprouting all my nuts/seeds. As you say, they are dehydrated(unless they're sprouted), and that can't be so good. I love romaine and celery and all the l

VeganLife, The champagne water doesn't come from any particular kind of coconut, and it's not at all fermented. It's just a stage that the water goes through. The water is sweet and just a little bubbly. Nice picture, Carey!

Hi Rawgosia, Yes, I agree! It must have been fun swingin' from those trees. About planting fruit trees, often, when planting from seed, it seems like it takes forever to get fruit. And then when it comes, it's junk. The fact is, my husband and I planted a lot of grafted trees, not just for us, but also because we intended to sell fruit, and retailers want known varieties. But we also p

What is "overt fat?" Is it processed fat like olive oil? And/Or is it the fat you get when you eat nuts, seeds, avocado? Or is it something else? If nuts/seeds/avocado are overt fats, are those foods out of bounds on 80/10/10, or can you eat small quantities and still have an 80/10/10 ratio? I haven't received my book yet, and I'm having a little trouble attaining the correct

Our coconuts are always fresh here in Hawaii, and maybe the taste is better when they're fresh. The taste here is a very subtle sweetness. Here we don't say "young coconuts" because nobody eats the hard meat. If the meat is hard, that would be an "old coconut". We call the good soft meat "spoon meat". The meat is best when the coconut is just old enough for th

An ultraviolet light system is the absolute best for killing any kind of bacteria or whatever living weird thing might get into your water. It's not particularly expensive. We recently put in a well for another house and were required by the County to have the water tested. Another contractor said he had to do the same thing. He went through several filter systems, but kept flunking the w

Instead of grinding or mashing the sprouted grains and/or dehydrating them, you might try eating them alive and whole. One combination that sounds kind of unusual, but is actually pretty good: sprouted wheat mixed with chopped ripe papaya, especially the dark orange sunrise papaya. Or you could add them whole to salad.

I don't mean to take sides here, but I would like to address a couple of the issues regarding soil depletion and its connection to loss of nutrients in our food. It's very true that overall, and especially here in the US, we have been losing topsoil at an alarming rate. But for many years, concerned individuals have also labored to study and incorporate methods for improving and building or

Maybe intuition and intellect are equally important. I would add one more: observation (in terms of looking, feeling, and listening). Perhaps each of those three are of little use without the two others. I think I'll also add that in my experience, one of the pitfalls of discovering something joyous and wonderful is the temptation to think there's nothing more that's important to lea

One way to help ripen avocados is to take off the stem. Also, ripening them in a paper bag is probably better than in a plastic bag. Vegetables in plastic are fine, but any kind of fruit (including avocados) kept in a closed plastic bag begins to suffocate. That's why all prepackaged fresh fruit comes in nets (like oranges) or in containers that are perforated or have breathable cardboar
