Hi Minou33 and Annie, I apologize to you both. It looks like I got you both mixed up somehow when I entered my last post, and I also didn't notice that Minou's question was actually addressed to Annie, and not me. Hope you we're offended. Best wishes to you both. -Ally (suncloud)

I'm semi-retired now from this organic farm where we live. We still take care of the trees, but don't sell fruit anymore. It's giving me time to catch up on a lot of the things I've wanted to do like planting flowers, working on the house, and hopefully putting in a vegetable garden. I used to have a garden all the time, but had to let it go when I got too busy taking care of the trees and sel

Hi Bryan, Good advice about the greens probably for most, but for me: I've tried really hard to eat greens everyday and I really like them, but my body rebels. Last time I tried it I got very constipated (along with numerous other little problems) in I think about a week, although I only ate just a little bit of greens in a very small salad each day. I do better it seems on eating a big

OK. I get it. Thanks so much for your replies. Sounds really good. I think I actually will order the book. I haven't bought a raw food book for ages, but I'd like to see what Doug Graham has to say. I really like it that Doug Graham stresses the importance of lots of regular exercise. I think it's easy for many of us raw fooders to underestimate how important it is to exercise, since

I edited that last post a lot because I was trying to get those questions out without sounding overly skeptical. I'm really not. But I always hear about 80-10-10 associated with low fat quantities, and yet I can't quite understand how it would automatically imply low fat quantities if you can have the same ratio and eat lots of fat if you eat lots of carbs too. There must be something

No, you weren't rambling Uma. What you were saying was very interesting. I have a couple of questions about 80-10-10 for anyone who might care to answer: If a person eats a whole lot of nuts or seeds for instance, like much more than any person really needs, like maybe a couple of pounds of sunflower seeds plus 5 great big bowls of almonds in just one day, but the same person also eats a

Djatchi, I agree with your post 100%. I'd like to clarify something I said about dates in my previous post. I do eat dates, but only the fresh raw ones. The dates in the bins at our local health food store are dried and steamed (though organic), but the dates in the produce section are fresh raw. One other thing: although I do believe a person can safely eat as much fruit as they want,

Hi VeganLife, They grow here in Hawaii, but are not native to here (almost nothing is). According to "Manual of Tropical and Subtropical Fruits" (1948 by Wilson Popenoe), they are also called "Biriba", and they are common to Para, Brazil, a tropical lowlands area. Apparently they also grow in Florida (or at least they did in 1948), but Popenoe considered those fruits to

My favorite breakfast (break fast) routine: Early in the morning, get up, do an hour of yoga, eat a couple of organic oranges and bananas, go out and run several miles or walk a couple of miles with hand weights, then come home and eat a chopped up cucumber mixed with 1 or less avocado and lemon juice. Then maybe an orange for desert. Yum. Not exactly Cousens, but it works for me. Se

Hi Annie, I really have no experience with candida, but since you asked me how much fruit I think is safe to eat, I'll go ahead and give my opinion. I think it's safe to eat as much whole organic fresh fruit as you want to eat. However, I would also suggest that you NEVER try to avoid eating any other raw vegan food that you might actually prefer at any given time by filling up with more

I never had a yeast infection until I began menopause somewhere in my mid to late 40s. I don't think the reason was too much fruit (since I'd been eating a whole lot of fruit already for decades), but it was at least somewhat associated with menopause. Not that my diet was perfect -although I'd already been vegan for at least a decade - but some of the changes associated with menopause made

I almost never eat unless I really feel hungry (not just appetite) except when I know I have to eat early because I have to be away from food for most of the day doing some kind of hard work. I'm curious though. Sometimes I get this feeling like I'm really hungry but really full at the same time. Anyone else feel that way ever? I used to feel that way much more often when I ate cooked gra

Jackfruit is my favorite. Mangostein is right up there. Purple on the outside, flavorful melting white sections on the the inside. Has anyone tasted rollinia deliciosa? When they're picked ripe, they're VERY creamy and taste like cherry pie filling. They're an annonaceous fruit like cherimoya.

I eat a little raw wheat germ and/or sprouted wheat once or twice a week. It's delicious with salad. I find it helps me stay satisfied on raw.

Maybe one reason raw foods cookbooks have so many fancy recipes is that the authors or the editors feel they are competing with all the SAD cookbooks that are being sold from the same shelves. Some raw fooders maybe once really enjoyed cooking, and a fancy raw foods recipe every once in a while might not be too bad a thing. Every day for every meal is of course a different story! One thing

Seeds that are rancid leave a burning sensation in your mouth. Seeds that are stale will have lost their crunch. I put all my seeds and nuts in the refrigerator. I'm not sure about putting them in the freezer though. Has anyone experimented to see whether seeds that have been frozen will still sprout? If not, freezing them probably killed them.

If someone gets into yoga for the purpose of getting into shape, and then, through the practice of it, they gain willpower and a higher awareness plus they might possibly become more receptive toward the higher yoga practices of pranayama and meditation, then what's the harm? According to the Yoga Sutras (the most ancient book on Yoga), the practice of Hatha Yoga (the physical postures) is o

I think it's good and it's very important for people to look for proof and share conclusions from whatever source, BUT, Greenie said, "You will need to prove for yourself in the laboratory of your own experience what is best for you". Right on.

Dear GotVeggie, According to the US Dept. of Agriculture (see nutritiondata.com), there's more calcium in a QUARTER cup of sesame seeds than in a WHOLE cup of whole milk. One WHOLE cup of whole milk gives you only 276 mg of calcium (or 28% of the daily requirement, ie 28% DV), but just a QUARTER cup of sesame seeds gives you 351 mg of calcium (or 35% of the daily requirement,ie 35% DV).

Those flower pictures are beautiful, coconutcream and greenie! I think maybe the hardest part of eating flowers will be that after eating them, we can't see them anymore. I guess the solution will be to grow a lot of flowers to look at AND to eat!

Hi Rosemary, I know you said thyroid, and I don't know much about that. But do you also get sick to your stomach? If you do, you might try eating most of the same food, but try eating it without blending. I used to be able to blend anything, but nowadays, blended food (even home-grown organic) makes me nauseous and puts me down somewhat. Bananas blended with stuff makes a great pudding, but

I recently discovered one great walking and aerobic exercise I can do at home when it rains. It's a video using heavyhands weights. If you don't know what heavyhands are, you can go to www.heavyhandsfitness.com for information and purchase of the video. Heavyhands are small dumbell-like weights with a stationary strap that fits over the back of your hands, so you don't have to grip the weights

I much appreciate the advice and suggestions. The flowers mentioned above sound wonderful. I've enjoyed eating nasturtiums and marigolds from the garden before, but I haven't tried much else. I remember picking and eating the red clovers as a child. I'm hoping to include a good selection of flowers in a new garden soon. Thanks so much everybody. -Ally

You can save money on fertilizer and soil amendments (and save room in your local rubbish dump) by making your own compost. Raw fooders have lots of fruit and veggie scraps for making compost. Since you will never have a completely composted pile if you keep adding fresh scraps to it, you will need two compost piles: one to add your fresh scraps to and one to let rot. For the necessary car

Does anyone eat flowers as part of a regular raw food diet, or does anyone have any words of wisdom about eating flowers? Would anyone like to share with us what kind of flowers you like best to eat? Does anyone know of a resource for nutritional information on flowers? I'm wondering if flowers might be a nice addition to a raw food diet, regardless of whatever nutritional information is
