The following facts told in a narrative format are true and I can provide a signed affidavit if required :p I hope this true story helps in some way. WARNING: NON-VEGAN FACTS mentioned in this narrative. It's history, not promotion. If you don't like then don't read. Thanks. Speaking from a botanical point of view, the cells inside most greens (plants most often highest in proteins) are like boxes or treasure chests that have to be broken into by the animal's system. Either excessive chewing to release the treasures inside each cell, or a very strong digestive system, or both. Cows and other animals that chew the cud have one variant or another of a system that has

You'll likely experience some "detox" symptoms if you jump right in. I'm on Day 4 of my latest efforts. I'm finding that using the online nutrition calculator at fitday.com is making a big difference for me. I'd suggest you read the posts on here, read a book or two, consult a health care professional that's not going to give you the classic drug company propaganda and have fun. The

If you're looking for a book to provide instant guides and quick starts you're probably going to need 2. one for concepts, etc. another for recipes that follow those concepts: I can only go on what I've read here Doug Graham's book 80/10/10 diet is a good "info" book on why, etc. from what I've gathered here I believe it has a set of recipes to get you started. I'm just starting out myself but: Here's a list of books I've found on this site and others: Doug Graham's 80/10/10 Diet Natural Hygiene online book Matt Monarch's book Victoria boutenko's books Allisa Cohen's books I'm leaning more towards Doug Graham's book and the natural hygiene online book with some supplementary reading from victoria boutenko's books on green smoothies to

My understanding from the boutenko interview videos was that she had gained the weight back while on a high fruit version of raw after hitting the "plateau" she spoke of. And when she had just started to lose the weight back and get back on track with the greens she'd done the interview and was still in the process of losing the weight back. She did mention that she was losing it more

Prior to going raw I set up some "plant" lights in the room I was in. The bulbs are supposedly full spectrum as they provide a great way to start your garden indoors while waiting for winter and spring to finish playing tug of war with the weather. Supposedly they were to last much longer than regular bulbs. I went through 3 bulbs in 4 months in just one lamp system. I gave up tryin

hello and welcome I hope you succeed in your endeavors. I've already found some great info here in just a few days. If you read you may want to pick up a few books. The calender on fitday.com that Jgunn mentioned is priceless, for me at least.

From what I've been able to gather, it depends on if you're going to approach it as a diet or a lifestyle change. It seems as if Doug Graham's book would be the place to start for those questions from what I've read on here: hope this helps

The trouble is the cost of buying and running full spectrum lights. Standard low energy lights such has fluorescent lights, etc. don't provide everything you need for full spectrum. That's one of the issues I face right now. This is one of the worst areas in the u.s. for natural sunlight. Since we have to move I'm trying to find something affordable in an area where it's sunny most of the t

by around here I meant in my family . Every time I've tried to go raw they've all given me a hard time and essentially chastised me when I caved in to their cooking :p. Not much of a support group. When they start cooking I shut myself into a room and try not to smell it .

Nope I didn't succumb to the chicken. I'm thinking of running to the market and getting some produce right now. I haven't had much today yet either. I just found out that we have several books by several authors but they're all boxed up and in storage. We're having to try to be out of this house by Monday so the estate of the owner can sell it and we don't have a home to move into yet so e

I'm the type of personality currently that I do well when I've got a workout partner willing to push me when I get to that lazy phase but by myself I end up slipping. I'm hoping the change in eating habits will help me work on changing my bad personality traits as well. I used to be a hard worker and I've gotten so depressed and down right lazy as I've gotten heavier. I want to do a total chan

Man! most everyone looks so beautiful and healthy. Even the pictures of those just starting or who could be considered "heavy" have a beauty about them. I'm ashamed of myself. I think I'll wait until I've been on raw successfully for a year before posting my face. You can see my fatness at my blog I've just started if you really want to see me though. I really hope this blog keeps

I understand that. I fear that if I don't get on track now I'll end up having the similar issues. It scares me tremendously. God Bless her for making the steps she's taking. I hope she makes her goals. From what I've read so far it sounds as if her partner is being supportive so that will be a big help to her.

Has anyone here experienced "cravings" a few years after managing to stay raw? I was directed to a blog that led me to victoria boutenko's "green for life" interviews where she discussed actually hitting a "plateau" where the cravings got really bad and she started gaining weight again and feeling tired even though she was still doing the "raw" thing.

Thanks for that blog. I found her clip where she's lost over 50 lbs in 6 weeks and also the clips about Victoria boutenko's issue with the "plateau" on high fruits. I'm going to read Victoria's books on Green for life, etc. That may be what I need. If it can get rid of certain cravings, maybe it will reduce the discomfort I go through. I'm still going through the blog of this w

Ok, if a person can find sun dried tea leaves and then make sun tea from them would this be considered raw or not? I like yerba tea with the peal of a fresh lemon or lime in it, no sweeteners except the occasional stevia. I'll give it up if needed but just curious. Thanks.

Well, I've decided to start (yet again) on raw today. last night I took a couple "before" shots and weighed in. 305. bleh! I'm going to try to use one of these public blogs to keep myself accountable, and read as much as I can on here. Here's my blog spot for those of you who need a good laugh I guess :p. I hope it keeps me accountable. Thanks to anyone who can respond wit

Noelle, In the reading I've managed to force myself into I've found that there are a lot of athletes on the raw food diet. Most athletes need a high caloric intake. Storm at competes and also is dedicated to competitions. I've heard of some people using raw olives too, though I don't know where you'd find fresh ones.

Your posts makes me wonder a few things. are you eating a high fat raw diet or a low fat raw diet? I'm going purely on logic here and nothing to do with raw experience but if you're not regulating your caloric intake in accordance to specifics on carbs, fats, proteins, etc. I'd venture a guess to say it's possible you're experiencing a type of acne brought on by high fats. I recall another

sarah, I'm impressed. I shared your photos with my family. Maybe there's hope for me. I stand at 6 ft and need to lose over 150 lbs but I want to go raw for the good of it, not in an attempt to lose weight. I feel if I can go raw because I want the life style then the weight will regulate itself. I have the 811 book and also the raw spirit book by Matt Monarch but I'm having difficulty re

I was reading your "vegan due to dairy allergies" and it brought this to mind. Here's something interesting I was "tipped" as a result of my use of the word "vegan" to mean strictly dietary changes. A "vegan" friend said "veganism is a moral stance, not a dietary philosphy, the diet just happens to fall inline with the moral stance of animal rights

Thanks for responding. I've tried cutting just meats, or just dairy but it seems to be all or none with me. I did wonderfully while living alone before the accident that stopped me preparing foods and brought me back to the family. I am addicted to foods. I realize this. I'm not a big sweets fan. It's the greasy foods that gets to me. I can cut out refined sugars with no problem and not mi
