It's not the pesticide residue on the mango skin. some people are just super sensitive to the sap/latex in the skin (especially around the stem) and the tree itself. I have a wood worker friend who was so allergic to mangoes that he had to go to the hospital after handling mango wood. Not to worry though, if you were sensitive to it, you'd probably know it by now.

I love Shel too. I had the pleasure of meeting him many years ago in Key West Florida... as cool as you would expect. Some of my favorite poems have made their way into the world as songs. This one has been a favorite for years. sometimes i do song fasts where I only listen to one song all day. I use this one often; Pray For Grace by Michael Franti Why must I feel like this today I

my one piece of advice is bring it home in the trunk of your car/bed or your truck etc. I made the mistake of carrying mine home in the cab of my truck and the smell stayed for 4-5 days. I loved the taste though.

This is probably an appropriate thread to share some of my pineapple pics. These were all taken in the last few weeks on West Maui... the last two are very interesting in that it is thought that pineapple no longer reproduce from seed. 1.) This is what the fields look like a day or so after planting the crowns. The crowns are just the leaves from the top of the pineapple. The crowns are

I can't back this up, but I would assume that most soaking is to remove the sprouting inhibiting enzymes, that those enzymes would end up in the soak water. I always throw mine out.

b12 is the only supplement I take on a regular basis. I'm not dogmatically opposed to the use of supplements if needed.

I'm sure there will be many opinions about this. I did it last May for 21 days. Before that i ate like crap and had a very unhealthy lifestyle. Afterwards i didn't crave unhealthy food at all... as a matter of fact, i didn't even crave cooked food. Even though I never did the MC with the intention of becoming raw, that's what happened. I've been totally raw (with a few very minor slips) si

My second favorite from Mary Oliver; The Summer Day by Mary Oliver Who made the world? Who made the swan, and the black bear? Who made the grasshopper? This grasshopper, I mean-- the one who has flung herself out of the grass, the one who is eating sugar out of my hand, who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down-- who is gazing around with her enormous and complica

Yay! Yay! Thank you for this thread! I love all of the poetry so far. This one has always been one of my all time favorites. It's one of those poems I've read so often that I could probably recite it by memory. I wish i had all of my favorites committed to memory... I've always admired that ability/dedication...I'm too lazy i guess. Anyway, here's one of my faves; Wild Geese by Ma

Hey LaV, I wish that article could have been posted. There have been times in my life that i believed that women only liked arrogant jerks. I even thought about acting like one, but quickly decided against it. When I looked at the issue more deeply i realized that the women who loved these jerks, weren't the women that I would want to be with anyway. They had no self confidence and loo

Hi Mira, A white coating on the tongue is a classic detox symptom. I always get that if I fast or cleanse. I use a spoon to scrape it (although they do make tongue scrapers), then I brush it. It should start to decrease as the old toxins are eliminated, but it might not go completely away during this fast if you are particularly toxic. Also, in my personal opinion, I would wait on having

Hi Grayzie, I agree with maui_butterfly. Raw food can't cure emotional or mental issues, but for me, it did take away all of the dietary distractions that seemed to help keep those issues buried inside. When I was able to eliminate all of the SAD comfort foods that I used to eat with the intention of deadening the emotional pain, I was left with just me and my "pain". It can be fr

I love wheatgrass juice and have it with the rest of my green juice in the morning. I'll only stop drinking it when my body tells me to. There are some raw food folks who follow a very strict and dogmatic approach to their diet and others who just go with the flow. it's great to read as much information as possible and make sure to distinguish between information and opinion, then let your bod

my guess is that a good scrubbing like you describe would do the trick. Maybe juice a few lemons or limes for the first run and then clean it again before drinking more juice from it.

I think any sort of dogma is ridiculous to adhere to, and more so, to push on anyone else... whether it's no fruit, high fruit, high greens, 80/10/10, religion, politics... even my "anti-dogma" dogma is better kept to myself. Everyone is different, which is wonderful. Everyone is just striving to find what will help them thrive at this stage of their journey, but the minute their appr

I've been dry brushing my skin each morning and night and i follow it with a hot shower, but I always end the shower with alternating hot and cold... ending it during the cold cycle for as long as I can stand it. it does feel great, but I can imagine if I was still living in Vermont, during the winter I'd have to be awfully motivated!

well my friend, if you (or anyone here) makes it to Maui, I'd love to share a great raw meal...even if it's just an organic field ripened pineapple.

Unfortunately no. I live in a pretty small one bedroom appt, but luckily i live in maui so I don't spend that much time indoors. I am planning on looking for a place a little further in the country with a bigger yard so that i can do more than just container gardening, sprouting and wheatgrass growing.

hmmm, are you guys sure you want the saffron sauce recipe and not the kohlrabi juice recipe? anyway, I made up the pine nut saffron sauce recipe, but the problem is that I never write things down and even if I did, I probably wouldn't make it exactly the same again anyway. When I use recipes from other people it's usually to get conceptual ideas of how something is made and then I wing it. T

I would stay in the now and eat the way I do, because it is what I truly love. However, if I absolutely knew I would die in a few months, I would definitely max out all of my credit cards buying all of the most delicious and expensive organic fruits and veggies that I often cannot afford.

Wow phantom, Sorry to hear that you're going through that. I've read that fresh cilantro, especially the juice is very effective in chelating heavy metals including mercury. If I can find a link I'll post it. I've been juicing it for a few months now and I love it. Good luck.

Well Suvine, I was only trying to have an intelligent conversation about this topic, but I see it won't go anywhere because you won't approach it with an open mind. You seem imprisoned in judgment, implying that anyone who practices or believes anything that you don't understand, is a moron. You constantly say that you only believe what can be absolutely proven, but can you absolutely offer

Hi Simple life, In an earlier post when I referred to just having had a colonic with a side of wheat grass, I was actually referring to an implant, but I brought 8 oz instead of 4oz. I must say that I felt so amazing afterwards. It was unlike anything I've ever done to my body... and far more euphoric than any "high" I ever remember from my drug daze. Just a hyper-clear awareness
