I have no experience with such a fast, but intuitively I feel like a fast with any oil would be very unpleasant at the very least. Is this something you've heard of other people doing? I think fasting on fresh green coconut water would be great however. You might want to repost this in the main forum as there has been quite a lively discussion about coconut oil over there.

I miss my vita-mix. I still have it, but I'm in the midst of the 10 day juice only portion of a cleanse. So it's sitting on top of my counter that used to be a stove, getting jealous of my juicer. I tell her every morning that I still love her and that I miss her dearly. I hope she understands that absence makes the heart and stomach grow fonder. At this moment I am very fond of the idea of p

I have a kilo of raw, in the shell pine nuts, but it is so hard to shell them and still keep any of the nuts. I guess that's a perfect way to limit my intake because i get frustrated after a dozen or so. Anyone here had success shelling pine nuts?

Hi Suvine, I had the exact opposite experience with iridology just a couple of weeks ago. I was at a natural health fair and sat down for a quick free consultation with an iridologist. I didn't tell her anything about my health or diet. She looked into my eyes and said, "Wow, you used to be loaded with toxins, but it's like they are fleeing your body. Are you doing some kind of cleans

Hi veganathlete, The smell will tell and the color is a good indicator too. If it smells fermented it's on the way out, but even then you could probably salvage much of the fruit because they are so large.

yeah cpak, Great advice above. You didn't fail my friend, you were just practicing. You only fail when you stop trying. Look at this journey like you would the process of learning a new language. You won't be fluent the first time you try to speak. Keep speaking! I found that my tastes have changed so much since switching to raw. Eat the veggies that you know you like and mix in new

My idea of a perfect shopping excursion is when I am able to completely avoid buying anything that has a label or a package. I saw a documentary this weekend called "The Future of Food" and there was quite a bit about how the US doesn't require the labeling of products that have GMO ingredients. I thought, simple solution... don't buy anything but organic fresh whole foods. Now I'l

Is your guest alergic to seeds too? ...like pumpkin, sunflower and flax? If not, those can be good subs. i've made some pretty delish sauces with sunny seeds.

Well, sea salt is a collection of minerals, so i think you could describe it as unprocessed, but not raw as it was never really a living organism. Personally I don't mind using a little here and there and I don't think my raw credentials will be revoked for doing so. Sea water is very similar to the salt content of our own blood and I know several people here in Maui who drink about 4oz every d

Ah yes, but how can something worded so wrong, feel so right? I admit, the whole concept is totally amusing. I'm not a better man than you... just a different man. "It's just not gonna happen on my end." -Simple Living on the concept of colonics. I love all of the meanings in that sentence. Too funny.

I just had a colonic last Friday...with a side of wheatgrass juice! It doesn't really "come out" a tube to be examined, but it does pass through a glass tube in a little window on the device so that you can examine it as it floats by. Although some people might find this gross, it can also be quite informative. If you are not chewing your food enough, you will know it! I also find

Hi Grayzie, I don't think it's dependent on location as much as it is related to the persistence of the pesticide residue on the fruit/veggie as well as the amount and type of pesticide that the farmers are using... this last aspect may vary a bit by location because of different pesticide restrictions by country. I would tend to be more wary of chemically grown fruits/veggies from developing

There is a great list that someone posted on an earlier thread about this...it might take some searching. I think thicker skinned stuff is better...berries, peaches etc, not so good. Maybe someone will post the list again.

I just got back from one and I feel wonderful! That's an interesting article Dulset. There seems to be some good info, but much of it also seems like opinions. I did like this quote: "The question you need to ask yourself before you submit to a colonic is, "Once my body's protection is mechanically removed by surging water, will I thereafter be prepared to give my body only the ty

unfortunately yes. I found the same thing. I have mine in a closet now, which helps a little if I also close my bedroom door and crank up some techno....I can barely hear it. For all the rave reviews, I'm unimpressed with my Excalibur. It didn't work right out of the box... even though it was under warranty, it would have cost $50 to ship it each way (to and from Maui) to be fixed. I was a

Dark leafy greens have tons of calcium and romaine lettuce is a great source of protein. You can always go to a site like nutritiondata.com or fitday.com and enter the food that you have questions about and it will give you all kinds of great info. The more you learn and experience raw, the less worried you will be.

Thanks David-Z, I'm glad you like that quote, it's always been a favorite of mine. I have to admit, that although I don't have any of your quotes in my sig, I probably quote you several times every day to people who are looking for guidance and inspiration to lead healthier lives. You should write a book my friend! ...and indeed, on days that I get out of my office and into the field, I a

nah, if I was showing off, I would post some of the pictures I took during my lunch break of the rolling pineapple fields with Molokai in the background. Besides, If you could have joined us for the King Corn film last night, you'd be eating some of those pineapples right now! BTW, great film if anyone has a chance to see it. Don't worry, there's more where those came from.... literally,

Hi Leesah, Without getting too technical, a colonic irrigates much deeper than an enema. Also, with an enema you have to take the "tip' out and then sit on the toilet to empty your bowels, with a colonic, the tube stays in and when the water pressure is turned off, you empty your bowels into a different part of the tube. In my colonic there was a little glass window where you could see

Yes, Ideally the flesh should be a deep translucent gold color and it should have a pronounced pineapple smell. I picked a few ripe ones in the field yesterday and my truck still smells like pineapple today... best air freshener ever!

Thanks so much Sandra, It has been very difficult, but there have also been some positives... my family is much more openly loving and close, and my parents have actually started to eat several raw meals per week. This just amazed me because they used to have the attitude that it was too late for them to be healthy. It's also been a wonderful window into all that I have to be grateful for...

I adore avos and have been blessed with a great friend down the street who has about 8 trees of various varieties. I use them in sauces and oil-free dressings sometimes (and occasionally a raw cacao mousse), but usually I just eat them right out of the skin with a spoon and maybe a bit of fresh lime juice. My parents had never tried them outside of guacamole, until after my first visit as the

I'm not sure if i had arthritis per se, but before going raw I did have aches and pains all over and stiffness in my joints that are now all gone. There were aches from old injuries (knees, back, shoulder, ankle) that I thought I would have to live with my whole life, but i haven't felt them for a while now. Hope this helps a bit
