Well we could put them in front of webcams and log them onto skype or something, and then maybe the light-image emanating from the screen will have a sort of photo-synthetic effect back and forth which could serve as a possible form of plant communication? Or I could just have a very overactive imagination. -DaveK

I heard that the Lalaynne juicer is particularly hard to clean. So it might just be the material it's made from or something. I don't have too many problems with my breville. Just gotta clean it ASAP when I make something. Every once and awhile I put it in the dishwater but not nearly every use. -DaveK

Hi la_veronique, From the ingredients, it's basically a mix of chickory, a bunch of roasted nuts (lotsa almonds), some cacao and I forget what else. Not a raw drink by any means, but much better than coffee, and not very acidic.

I do the same thing. I think it makes the juices nice and frothy too.

This stuff fulfills a psychological need more than a physical one. I have had periods where I was able to get off of caffeine but I missed the whole coffee ritual. Tea just didn't do it. This stuff seems to be working. No caffeine today - I am having my teecino now and it approximates coffee well enough that my mind doesn't seem to notice the difference.

I'm maybe 50 - 60% raw right now, and I am desparately trying to kick coffee and caffeine in general. I've seen teecino recommended here, and was able to get it at my co-op this morning. Really what I needed more than anything was something to fulfull the psychological need for that nice warm happy cup of brownness. This stuff is GOOD. This morning I had half a cup of tea, so my actual ca

You can't really turn off awareness - actually awareness you want to keep. What's valuable (and difficult) to do is to start letting go of the concepts that cause you suffering. Physical is a concept, spiritual is a concept, cold and hostile are concepts - they're just thought bubbles in your mind. What you can do is just notice those thoughts as they arise and see them for what they are. They

I don't know anything about wormwood but I'm very sorry you are going through this kind of mental suffering. As far as the mental side of it, one thing that might be useful to reflect upon is the interconnectednes of things, or what Zen Master Thich Naht Hahn calls "interbeing." Essentially all these processes and organisms - even the ones we consider malignant, are part of an inter

The sun is a very powerful meditation object whether you are looking at it or not. A brief look to assist in visualization is probably enough. In Buddhist meditation the sun is sometimes used as a visualization (after a brief look) to chase away "Sloth and torpor" which are hindrances to spiritual progress. "Having given up sloth and torpor, he dwells free from sloth and torpo

Amos the Avocado. I raised him from a little pit. I had the pit in water for months and nothing seemed to happen. Then one day, the pit cracked, and I saw a little baby something inside it... Nothing much happened for about a week, until it started putting out a loooong root down to the bottom of the water container. Still nothing sprouted on top. So at that point I put it in soil and

The running raw guy, in one of his videos, here: Says that you should always chew your smoothies, for a long time. It seems counter intuitive "But I thought I was blending my smoothie so I didn't have to chew it!." But he points out that basically you blend it so it's easier to digest, but you should chew also to mix it with saliva. This also helps deal with any food combinin

Right now I'm just skipping over the bunny-killing stuff, and trying to learn the rest from the books. Next is to start learning all the plants I can. The trick is identifying them - I have a terrible visual memory. Those books sound neat Lillian. I have some friends that would definately be interested.

Thank you la veronique. To be honest, I do enjoy reading books that put forth a different opinion than mine, becuase they do cause you to grow. Well, I guess "enjoy" isn't the right word. But it's an enriching experience, something I should do more of. I haven't gotten to the very end of this particular book yet, but one thing to keep in mind is that the author was in his 20s when

Yes, after I get through some survivalist literature (and just ignore the killing bunnies parts) the next thing I need is some serious field guides on edible plants. I live in Delaware right now which is where I camp, but when I begin hiking it will probably be in PA. Thanks for looking and please let me know what you find! My problem isn't so much that the information isn't available, it'

So I've been getting really into camping lately and have started to take interest in learning about survival skills. One book I picked up is called "Wilderness Surival: Living off the Land with the Clothes on your Back and the Knife on your Belt." It's written primiarily in the form of a journal from a guy who spent (most of) 46 days in the woods, then interspersed with instructions

Will there be any fruits available to you? I'm wondering if maybe a citrus type juicer (old school hand squeezy one) would help at all, since that's packable. Or even just squeezing stuff by hand.

According to the juice bar I went to before I got a juicer, carrots and celery are supposed to be very good brain foods. They sold their carrot/celery drink under the name "nerve detangler." Don't know abou the claim itself but I have gotten into the habit of ending my evenings with a green apple/celery/ginger juice.

I still love my breville. Payed $110 for it with a 20% off coupon, at bed bath and beyond. It's doing wonderfully. It was slightly more expensive then the Jack Lalanne. I thought the JL looked kind of cheap and I've heard that they're harder to clean. I've heard of motors burning out with Breville's, so I've just been as gentle with it as possible when it comes to shoving veggies in it,

ok. Thanks. Was thinking maybe I could combine juicing with some of the master cleanse lemonade stuff. I'm only a bit worried about the cayenne pepper now with my esophagus. Last time I did it though I didn't have much of a problem. I also probably don't need to lose anymore weight, but oh well. -DaveK
