Hi Uti - the other thing is that our skin thins as we age. I know I'm brusing more easily now and my parents, at 75 sure are. Maybe longtime rawies will disagree but I do believe our skin thins as we age. Good luck!

Dave - All I can say is kudos to you for doing that for your family. Any chance of converting them to raw or mostly raw? Good luck with the sugar cravings! Just say NO! :-)

Thanks for the thoughts, Nora. Do you ever "crave" anything you wouldn't normally eat.. or did you when you first went raw? Anyone else? I imagine it is much more difficult for those who must cook or provide cooked food for others.

If I may digress, what do people mean by "cravings?" As I sit and think about it I don't really crave anything cooked! My issues with staying 100% raw have more to do with my gut and how it's responding at any particular moment, and social considerations. I'd love to know/hear from others including the OP - what do you crave? Cheers all...

I love dates for a sweet fix, as well. Coco - that just cracks me up! I can't imagine chewing something and spitting it out..... I mean, I couldn't make myself do that - I'd want to swallow it! ;-)

Hi Loretta - I feel your pain. I was horribly addicted to.... M&Ms. It was a reflexive thing at work - easy, sweet and chocolatey. Oh, I love the good, dark stuff, too, but the M&Ms were a real problem. I finally treated it like a serious addiction (which it was) and quit cold turkey. It's been about a month and a half now. I've deleted all processed sugars as well, and returned to a 90%

Take some walnuts and put them in a covered container. Sprinkle in some cinnamon. Cover and shake. Enjoy on their own, or with raisins, apples, celery or pears!

Hi Smoothie! You can soak and process oats. It also could have been ground nuts of some sort.

Very profound, aqua! I am wondering if anyone has read "Your Natural Diet" by Fry and Klein? I was thinking about ordering it. Or if there are other suggestions.... I have most of the recipe books out there, and I'm interested to read more about theory, for lack of better words. Who are the "experts" on fruit based eating? I'm not convinced 100% fruit will work for me - at lea

I think I may be my own weakest link! I let myself, my thoughts, and others get in my way all the time. It's hard to be a bit unconventional in a conventional world. Nice thread!

I was beginning to feel like the only one who doesn't care for these. I used to like the coconut/chocolate one, but anymore, the taste doesn't sit well with me and I get "oogy" feeling! :-) I like bananas too. Or, living fudge that I make.... Oh yeah!!!

I wonder if any of you worry about osteoporosis? I know that Nora doesn't! ;-) (just a well-meant joke...) But my mother has it and my older sister is showing the signs. Even though my diet is scores better than theirs, at 46 I will continue to do my weight training. I love that I am strong. It also helps with balance and avoiding the loss of muscle mass as we age. This is just my opinion.

Hi there - I'm in the Midwest as well. One thing I do in winter is drink green rooibos tea. Not technically raw, but good for you, in my opinion. It helps with warmth. I also allow myself some miso soup. It's warming, as well. I also plan to try more raw recipes with squash - Ani Phyo has a squash rice that sounds intriguing. Another thing is if I make raw lasagna or even zuchinni noodles, I stic

I think I missed two days of work when I gave up coffee. The headache lasted close to a week, as I recall, and I truly was in a fog. But I knew it would pass.... I actually started drinking half decaf half regular for a while, so I guess that's a way to "wean" as well. Good luck!

Three months! Fantastic! I really am over the intense craving part and it's not so bad to just say no. I know how horrid processed sugar is for the body and that is what keeps me going. I think most cats probably tolerate the wheat litter, but my guy just had a really sensitive tummy.

Elayne - I felt your pain! You just have to ride it out. Seriously - it will get better in no time.... I hope. I admit to taking ibuprofen to help take the edge off. I knew it would be short term. You will feel better once you get out of the fog. That much I DO know. Good luck!

Thanks sew raw. All good thoughts and ideas. I've never been a "typical" SAD eater - well maybe up until about age 15! That was back in the 70s! I even went raw back the 1980s for awhile. One problem I had..... OK I will just come out with it: I was addicted to M&Ms. There. It's out there! I would eat perfectly combined vegan and raw food all day and night. But at work I had this ad

Karen - here is a link in case you're curious. They have complete frozen patties and a raw, grain-free dry food. My cats are Maine Coons too!! A raw diary may come... if I get more time!

Thank you once more Karen. As someone who lost a beloved cat to cancer I can relate. My two are now raw, but not vegan. I think what you say makes sense. I think a lot of it just has to do with pride! I've always had "killer" digestion, and eat so much raw all the time anyway, it was puzzling, It's calming down. One thing I'm doing is eating less at each meal. Which food are feedin

Thanks for the clarification! The link doesn't show up like that on my screen - it just says amazon.com! Yes, we are indeed talking about the same book. I'm going to go grab it and sit down with it again! I have been taking a probiotic for about 4 days. Wonder how long it takes to feel the effects. Anyway - thanks again for your help! Forward on.... :-)

Hi Nora - Would you say that bloating and a gnawing sensation in the navel region could be considered symptoms? I love my fruit and certainly eat more of it than greens, but honestly I do love greens, too. I've been veg most of my life so I have acquired (or cultivated) a palette for such foods. Anyway - trying to get back to 100% but am having gut symptoms that are very uncomfortable. My instinc

Thanks Karen - I should re-read the beginning of Raw Food Detox; I do have that one. When you said I think this book would be good - did you mean Raw Spirit? I think the frustration is just that I've been sort of "transitioning" all along, always eating a high percentage of raw, so now I just want to eat all raw but my gut is not cooperating! (And I usually have a very strong gut with v

Hi there - just wondering if you all would post your favorite book(s) that talk about the transition to raw, how your body may react.. (yes, I am one who recently asked about bloating) :-) I have almost all the raw uncook books out there, but none really go into the other physical/emotional issues and give good tips for making a slower transition to 100% raw. I was 100% raw for about 9 months

Thanks Karen - great minds... I just went to Whole Foods and bought some probiotics! I don't think it's acute - it comes and goes.
