What you lost over the winter is organic matter, and it didn't really happen during a cold winter (depends where you live, of course) but in the spring, when all that action occurs with the warm temperatures. Plus natural settling. Yes, if your beds are low, the roots will grow into the ground. Of course this depends on how long the roots of your particular plants are and what your "gr

I'd say that this depends on whether your soil is alkaline or acid to begin with. Our soil where I live is alkaline (ph = 8) so I pour diluted vinegar on my potatoes. Since I've been doing this, there is no problem, ever, with scabby potatoes or insect infestation of any kind. I suspect that some of my other crops would benefit from a more acid soil, too. Need to look into this. So, it do

Has anyone read this? Zajic's conclusion is that “There seems to be no question that, at least initially, eating a raw foods diet can reduce or cure many health complaints.”

I am endlessly amazed at the number of folk into "healthy eating" who own and use a microwave oven. I'm not 100% raw (though it might be nice), but I will never knowingly consume microwaved food.

Not that I can recall, but I will see if I can find the book somewhere on my shelf, and consult it, but I really don't think he explains precisely why. I know that he blames "concentrated carbohydrates", ie, all flour products and cooked heavy startchy foods, as well as refined sweets, for just about everything that's wrong with us healthwise. I love reading his little book, it mak

Re oxalates. Norman Walker said in his book on juicing that only cooked oxalic-acid-containing greens such as spinach, swiss chard, beet tops, etc. are harmful. So, according to him, you can eat and juice these raw greens. How 'bout that.

Glad you agree, powerlifer. CJJ: It's not only regular doctors, ie, MDs, who are ignorant, not to mention mean, sometimes. Naturopaths are not much better, except for the older ones (older than about 70 years of age). At least that is my experience. A good doctor isn't going to say, "My way or the highway!" if you have strong desires and beliefs regarding diet. A good doctor k

Also, how about coconut fat: "Medium Chain Triglycerides - Unlike regular oils, which a person with bacterial overgrowth may not be able to assimilate, medium chain triglycerides are absorbed directly without the need for digestive enzymes. Medium chain triglycerides are often recommended for people with bacterial overgrowth or any type of malabsorption. Coconut oil is a medium chain trig

I have to admit that I don't know, I suspect that maybe our comfy lives will just slowly drain away instead of there being a massive, sudden implosion. God, I hope that neither occurs, but it doesn't look good.

My opinions are much the same as yours, Phantom. We all need & deserve a complete death process. As to cremation, there's nothing remotely green or ecologial about it. Read up on the energy it takes. And, somehow, it is just plain ugly. Bodies are dense and wet. Burning them is stupid. Tamukha said to me, " Uh, Horsea, Pol Pot was vegan. Raised in a strict Buddhist family.

I don't see my statement as racist. It is a fact that far easterners have no compunctions about consuming cats and dogs. I appreciate, though, that you "assume the best" about my intent. I used to get mailings from an animal rights organization filled with details and photos of what the Koreans, in particular, liked to do to the family dog on picnics. Let's call a spade a spade, sha

I'd miss mine (my donated organs). Heck, there are even suckers giving up a kidney while they are still alive. No such patsy every wonders what the hell HE will do if his single remaining kidney goes kapoot. Where is it written that people are permitted two lives in one go? It's a little greedy, if you ask me.

Okay, speaking of dulse. I am a stubble jumper (living on the prairies all my life) and about 30 years ago our Commanding Officer, who is from the east coast, brought in a bit of dulse he'd brought back from a visit to his home. Well, you don't give no lip to a CO; he handed us girls in the office a bit of it and expected us to eat it right then and there. Needless to say, we all thought it wa

I have heard that there is nothing, and I mean nothing, as difficult to stop taking, as antidepressants. It is supposedly hell on wheels. Like you are being put thru a giant meat grinder or wood chipper. So don't start them in the first place; look for basic causes and fundamental cures. Of course some people (a family member of mine now deceased) love being under the "care" of doct
