Why did the US government decide to come up with this bill in the first place? What sort of serious problems were occurring that made it necessary? Anyway, I'd keep my eyes on the Svalbard seed bank in Norway.

The soon-to-be-compulsory compact fluorescents (curly bulbs) don't save energy at all. Old-fashioned light bulbs (incandescents) give off a fair bit of heat. So when you replace all your bulbs with the stupid curlies, you are cooling your room down. In turn, you turn up the thermostat. It's been proved and even without proof it's logical. I am planning to soon buy a few cases of incand

Maybe for some people raw foods (mainly) + exercise won't cut it. Maybe some people need extra help such as what might be provided by parasite and liver cleansing.

I see in various places the necessity of a "low stress" life necessarily going along with raw veganism. Well, reality says that some people at some points in their lives are going to be faced with some serious stress (in the sense of excessive). That is why we have to listen to our bodies and urges at such times. If we crave junk food, we have to try to figure out why we want th

Not everything in rawfoodexplained is wrong. The author is to my knowledge correct in saying that fermented foods do not help intestinal health in any permanent, fundamental way. Things like yogurt, etc. do assist the intestines while passing through, but for those particular microorganisms to actually be able to implant, they'd have to be consumed for a very long time, and even then it is not

Pborst, I have always read and enjoyed and benefited from your contributions here. You are well-read and express yourself well without any mean-ness and on anonymous forums, that is an accomplishment indeed. Best to you always. - Horsea.

In my opinion you can't separate sun exposure and high-fruit-sugar diet. The sun brings all that sugar to the surface of the body - the skin - and damages it. I would bet my last $ that people who eat a low sugar/chemical diet of any kind and get plenty of sun exposure do not have ugly, old-looking, or unhealthy skin. The sugar is a sort of catalyst. This idea is not original with me but has

Anything that moves that fast brutalizes the food regardless of temperature reached. I do what I can to avoid using my blender (which I inherited from my mother). When making "milk" from various plant substances, I first send it through my Omega 6-in-1 juicer/food processor (a slow moving auger-type machine) to break down the fiber, then take the mush and put it thru the blender for a

Tamukha, my late mother was born into an Orthodox Christian family. I have a vegan cookbook (okay, it's not raw) that an Orthodox women's group published for "fasting".

Yes, it is weird when things happen that way! In any case did you get past sniffing your sister's jar of p.s. butter, ie, did you take any?

I have just found out that there is such a thing as raw pumpkin seed butter. Has anyone here ever bought this and what did you think of it? Apparently it is kind of pricey. Do you think it's worth it? Tks.

All righty. I put all the fresh seeds from one of my squashes + a bit of the stringy innards through a grinder. Then I took this ground-up matter and placed it into a blender with some water, made a milk, and pressed it through a seive. I can safely say that the resulting strained milk is the best I have ever tasted.

Also, I sprout the black sesame seeds. You can see the little sprout easily that way.

This year I grew serveral winter squash named "Jaspee de Vendee". (It's a Pepo-type squash, for those of you who are gardeners.) It is a socalled melonette-type squash, too, which means that it is quite edible and enjoyable RAW. Almost as good as a muskmelon. Now I want to make some milk out of the seeds, which of course still have the husk on. Does anyone here have any experience

I will look into the claim that hulled seeds will sprout. Tks for mentioning that book. When my brown, unhulled seed developed little tails, I would call that a sprout.

Well, that's odd. I buy only the brown, unhulled ones, and they sprout fine.

I recall reading that sprouting sesame seeds inactivates the oxalic acid. And it must be true: I have eaten plain raw sesame seeds, then had leg cramps at night. Next time I sprouted the seeds to about 1/16", and had no such reaction, or any other negative reaction. But that's just me.

Nothing wrong with raw celery! It's the best thing in the universe for you, as far as I'm concerned. I would guess that as a blood pressure remedy (folk medicine) it is even better raw than when it's cooked.

So raw pineapple causes bad reactions in some people, but those same people can eat canned? This means that cooking in this case is a good thing.

They say that members of the cabbage family are better for you when cooked. Dark leafy greens certainly are - such as kale, collards, mustard greens, etc. But taste-wise, there's nothing wrong with cole slaw or raw kohlrabi. Also larger bean sprouts may be more digestible when cooked. Smaller ones probably better raw.

Regarding need for protein. It is true that, technically speaking, we need .36 gram multiplied by body weight. But why don't they tell you that protein and carb have to be in balance: the more carb you eat, the more protein you need. Otherwise, your body will suffer. Okay, that's easy enough - in theory. Just avoid all those carbs. to avoid "needing" a lot of protein. Well,
