I have bought a bag of raw peanuts which have cooking instructions on them. I was going to eat them raw but my partner tells me they must be cooked to make them safe. could you advice please - I know there is a mould called afla toxin that might be on them. Can you see this with the naked eye? thanks Philippa

I like an olive oil/balsamic dressing with some mustard and agave syrup and garlic in it. It's not totally raw but helps with the transition stage. Cut the meat out slowly maybe - you know, cut it down to every other day, then once every 3rd or 4th day and so on. It takes a while to get used to such a different way of eating. I found it easier to go over to mostly raw as I was starting from

Thank you all very much for your responses. I think maybe the spinach was the culprit. My partner wants to know what bug you could get from spinach - he doesn't think it possible.

this is such a useful thread. I think I have been trying to run before I can walk. I always want to get everything 'right' straight away. I think I need to take things a bit slower and realise that there aren't any food police just around the corner. I tend to make myself feel guilty if I put the wrong thing in my mouth and that's not particularly helpful is it? I identify with your postin

so sorry to put this on you but you all seem so kind and helpful that I thought I'd risk asking this question. Having had a nasty attack of the above I am wondering what has caused it. Mung bean sprouts make me blow up like mad and I had them 24 - 36 hours before but they haven't had such an extreme reacton before. some spinach in a juice might have been a bit past it - could that do it??

Hi - I just came across this today and thought it sounded rather good. Apparently this is the product of unpolluted ancient seas, dried up over 200 million years ago. L'Himal was formed in the foothills of the himalayas. they say that its purity is such that it can be called the 'return to the source of salt' Through water filtering by mineral-rich magma over millions of years L'Himal has

I am training for a half marathon and find that I can run 12 miles on a pint of carrot and apple juice a couple of hours before the run and a handfull of dates and a sharron fruit or two an hour before the run. I sometimes take dates with me too. Then I usually have a big juice when I get back including celery which I always seem to want - replacing lost salts I think. i don't want to take p

1424. Arthritis
hi I have a client coming to me for reiki. He has arthritis in one of his knees. I wondered if any of you have experience of what happens to arthritis on a raw diet. Should I mention raw diets anyway? The last thing I want to do is preach or offer advice out of place - but on the other hand if it could help??? Advice and life experience about this greatly appreciated Philippa

If this dryskin is very unusual for you it might be worth looking at reasons other than detox. I got excema and dreadful dryskin for the first time in 44 years and also discovered my underactive thyroid at the same time. Upon investigation I discovered that dry skin is one of the symptoms of this thyroid condition. hopefully this isn't the case for you but I thought it worth mentioning.

Thank you angie I'm not 100% raw but I don't feel like eating any grains at the moment. I sometimes have some steamed veg with my salads and that is how I have been dealing with cabbage so far. I don't know why I haven't tried it raw it just looks so tough and like real hard work!! I will try your idea though Philippa

the only way I liked coffee was sweet and with milk. when I returned to being vegan I tried black coffee but didn't like it much and added so much sugar that I thought wow this is crazy so I just stopped drinking it completely. If coffee is very hard for you to give up just be gentle with yourself and give yourself time. some things are easy to ditch straight away and others could take a lon

Hi Frances No I call that chard as well Possibly you don't have swede in America. (sorry assuming that's where you are) It looks like a large turnip and is orange in colour. It is fed to cows a lot. Traditionally it is boiled and then mashed with butter. All english school children loath it as it is boiled to death and then served luke warm swimming in too much cooking juice - yuck. It tas

I adore avocados but never tasted them till I was grown up. I discovered them when or just before I was pregnant with my first son. I ate a standard diet then but ate an avocado every day when I was pregnant - just craved them. I prefer the Hass variety as they have a more pronounced flavour and creaminess. they are great with oil and vinegar. I used to mash them and put them on marmite to

I had an iud for years and had no problems what so ever. they take away all the faffing about with all the other stuff. But eventualyy I decided that I no longer wanted to harbour a foreign body so I had it removed. I have two friends who got pregnant with an iud in place - they both went on to keep their babies. it's a tricky one really isn't. You can only go with what feels right for

Hi It's leek season in Devon, England and my organic veg box always has leeks, swede and cabbage in it every week. I don't think my juicer will cope with cabbage - it's a centrifugal type - but I haven't tried. I don't fancy raw cabbage leaves or leeks but there must be lots of good ways to do something to them????? I have ordered one of those saladacco things so am looking forward to

Hi I've seen lots of books on amazon etc but can't afford to buy many. We are remote here and the library can't help at all. I have read Shazzie's detox book. I would like one or two more books to educate and inspire me. I,m not too interested in great long complicated recipes - I don't have a dehydrator for instance. Has anyone got a 'bible' that they could recomend and please if you ha

hi Marley why do you use wheatgrass if you are not 100% raw? Or to put it another way why do you not need it if you are 100% raw? wish we had the kind of farmers markets that sell wheatgrass - it's wall to wall swedes here and lots of meat!!!

hi Everyone seems to talk about wheatgrass as being the supreme food. some people say it's disgusting, some say it's fine. some people grow their own, take powder, tablets, bottled juice - help. Can you get by satisfactorily without it? are the tablets better/worse than the juice for instance? Is it always very expensive? (I'm in England) looking forward to your opinions.

thank you both for your replys. Your detailed reply rawkev is very useful. Just incase you read this could I ask you a couple of questions? Why no proteins and fats the day before the race? Is a good carb meal with proteins and fats something like avocados? I am hoping to get the 80/10/10 book but it is mid atlantic at the moment. thanks again

hi, I am currently training for a half marathon and I am wondering what you guys who are runners fuel yourselves with before a run like this. I usually have carrot and apple juice and a banana and a few dried apricots but i would like some other ideas. also what would be good to fuel up with while running. Traditionally I have used energy gels but they feel a bit artificial and 'wrong'
