There are lots of things you can grow at home organically in small spaces- in tiny pots you can grow chillies and herbs, and in slightly larger pots you can grow bell peppers, baby aubergines, tomatoes etc.

272. Re: Tofu
Tofu is often made with calcium sulfate, so the end product is usually very high in calcium which is why a lot of people eat it. It's also high in protein and soy itself contains all the essential amino acids. I don't think the organic healthily-prepared soy/tofu foods are especially bad for us. The news channels and papers are always seizing every opportunity to slag off soya, but I think th

I recently finished the MC and felt great. I didn't do the salt water flushes, but did take senna tea. The MC did a fantastic job on helping me get my digestion back to normal Good luck!

If you eat raw cacao, you could mix nibs with raw nuts and dehydrated fruit and coconut to have on hand as raw trail mix. Also, there are recipes for raw 'fries' using either jicama or carrot sticks mixed with a little cold-pressed oil, sea salt and the secret ingredient- a hot spice such as paprika or chili powder. Or how about mini pizzas- tomato and bell pepper toppings on mushroom bases (n

Very interesting... The line about grapefruit shutting drugs out of the body is esp. fascinating. Taken from Sky News Fruit juices can dramatically reduce the effectiveness of heart and cancer drugs, according to claims. Potentially the medicines could be rendered useless if they are taken at the same time as juices including grapefruit, orange and apple, Canadian researchers said.

The worst ever breath I've ever had to enhale was that of my old dentist- a coffee addict and a smoker! I'd rather smell broccoli on someone than that greasy, eggy McDonalds smell! Aniseeds are a very good breath freshener. You could chew on these as a natural breath mint if you're worried about green breath

sunny- there was a shortcut idea for making nut/seed 'milk' on gliving.tv's website. Basically, instead of grinding up all the nuts manually etc, just blend together a spoon of a raw nut or seed butter, pure water and some agave syrup (or a date) to taste. Very very quick!

The Vegan Society logo has a lot of clout, so I personally trust this on products. Not only must the product be suitable for vegans, but animal testing on the product is also disallowed. I agree with your above post, UL. It's so much better to be able to read a short list of natural ingredients instead of being faced with some horrible list of chemicals you have to research.

Oooh I like these stories! There's something very empowering about 'growing your own'! Sprouting for the first time is amazing when you're a total newbie to growing food. It's the coolest thing when you see the little tails appear!!! My best moment so far was caring enough for my grapefruit tree and bringing it through into new growth after it looked like it was going to die. When I bought

I know a lot of folk here grow their own produce (even if it's herbs and sprouts, it's all good!). So what's been your finest moment as a gardener/homegrower? Successfully grown a melon? Managed to do something with an avocado pit? A fig tree? A lemon tree? Grown something despite all odds? My grandparents have a fig tree that had a tonne of figs on, and we live in a cool climate (and the

I agree with a lot of the article. But with the environment side, I think a lot of the problem lays in the 'media friendly' raw i.e. gliving.tv where newbie raw foodists are subjected to gorgeous-looking meals made from green coconut, coconut oil, papaya and other tropical fruits. A lot of raw cookbooks have coconut as a primary ingredient in a lot of dishes, as well as agave and weird importe

Well the bottom of the garden is very VERY wild, and the ivy has always been there, but since it spread, it took over the tree very fast! It's not poison ivy, and seems to enjoy creeping along the ground as well as climbing, so maybe ground ivy sounds right? We cut it away yesterday so the tree should be again, I'm just wary about eating the fruit!

It probably is too much to keep eating massive quantities of them- maybe you could eat less, but add some grated apple and raisins (and some cinnamon, if you like spices) to your nut/sweet mixture? Very tasty combo! I always find I go through nut phases- probably my body telling me something. Years ago I was a cashew-aholic, at xmas I used to be mad on almonds and hazelnuts, and a short time b

Maybe a bit of a weird question! The apple tree in my garden has become strangled with ivy. Will this make any difference to the fruit, since ivy is toxic and is literally wrapped around the tree like a blanket? PS. The apple tree is VERY old, bears fruit every year and looks pretty healthy despite the ivy.

Hi Garden I too am a recovering ex-junk food vegan ;-) Most supermarkets have a 'reduced' section and you can find some great bargains in there, also the markets tend to sell their produce off cheap late in the day i.e. getting 2 or 3 galia melons for the price of one. With growing stuff- you can buy specially designed window-box type containers that have a water reservoir at the bottom

I thought that was the whole point of taking psyllium on cleanses? it acts gluey and makes everything stick together so you can, uh, get rid of it (LOL).

Raw, organic & free-range meats definitely strengthened my cat during a very ill time. I started off with fillets, and then as he got the taste for it (pet food does strange things to animals' taste buds), I started giving him large pieces incl. bone and other gross stuff and letting him do whatever he wanted with it.

jfurgers- I find the raw vegan diet very challenging and I've been vegan/vegetarian most of my life. So much of it is emotional, and it's very easy to undereat one day and overeat the next. Lots of people do seem to thrive, but don't feel like you're the odd one out. I bet everyone here has some totally insane SAD to RAW rollercoaster journey I used to find green smoothies really grounding

OMG. If grew my own watermelons I would be 100% raw. I absolutely LOVE watermelon! If shops/supermarkets had watermelon juice on tap, I would never ever have had a caffeine addiction! I have a sweetheart melon variety in my greenhouse at the moment, I'm not sure if it's warm enough for it to actually bear any fruit. Had a galia melon earlier, which was a bit disappointing
